  Description

  We are a Dutch couple running a lodge in Madarao, situated in the beautiful mountains of Japan. We have been in Japan since 2013 and fell in love with its snow, nature, culture, food and its people. We purchased the lodge in 2019 and have been renovating it ever since. We operate the whole year around.
  
  In everything we do we aim for high quality service, a personalized customer approach, and environmental conscious tourism. We are looking people who share these values, have a professional attitude, and thrive in a fast pace and high pressure work environment. Work hard play hard! This means if everybody in the team works efficiently, the whole team gets enough free time to enjoy the great things Madarao has to offer in both winter and summer season.
  
  Next to accommodation we offer in-house Mediterranean style fine dining, and serve homemade sourdough bread for breakfast. We also bake and deliver our bread and other bakery products to the local community.
  
  In winter we offer ski and snowboard lessons, and side- and backcountry guiding in different ski resorts in the region.
  
  In summer, we sell our bakery products on local markets and festivals. We have a 900 m² piece of land where we are just starting to farm our own produce. We love mountain biking and are currently building a trail infrastructure with the local community.

  You will work in a multicultural team, whilst having contact with guests from all over the world on a daily base. We highly value personal connection with our guests as well as with your colleagues. We highly encourage exploring the environment in and around Madarao during your time off to explore what Japan has to offer. You will get to know what Japan has to offer and learn abou its unique culture, language, food habits and more. In winter, you can ski, snowboard or snowshoe. In summer, you can explore numorous hiking trails, mountainbiking, cycling, and many more activities. In exchange for your work you will receive free acommodation and an hourly rate that is equal to or highter than the minimum wage in Japan. In winter you receive a free season pass for Madarao/Tangram ski resort.

  Help

  We require all our workawayers to have a valid working visa and a valid Japanese or international driving license.
  
  If you want to come and work during the months April, May, August, September and November we prefer you to commit at least for one month to come and work with us but we prefer longer stays.
  
  During ski and snowboard season we prefer to work with one team that we train preseason and stays until the end. This means we require you to be available form the start of December until the end of March.
  
  For the lodge we are looking for people with experience in hospitality and/or tourism who thrive whilst working working in a high pressure and fast paced environment.
  For the restaurant we are looking for an experienced chef.
  For the bakery we are looking for a baker who has experience with sourdough baking or is keen to learn the skill.
  For the snowsports department we are looking for independent instructors and guides that like take our guests to the best resort for their ability.

  Accommodation

  All our staff rooms accommodate two people so if you're travelling alone it is likely you will share the room with someone else. You will share common areas with other workers.

  What else ...

  We have company cars that can be used if available for any trips in the region. Think for example aobut other ski resorts in the region, Nagano city, the Snow Monkey park, temples, or the village Obuse. There is also the possiblity to rent a private car for the time of employment, partially subsidized by the company.
