    Description

We are a family of five living in the charming city of Lajeado, in the heart of the Taquari Valley, Rio Grande do Sul. Our family consists of me (Fábio), my wife Júlia, our daughter Luísa, our energetic Yorkshire Terrier Pituco, and our little hamster Pandora.
I work with IT development, and our family runs a hotel in the city. You’re very welcome to join me at the office and see a bit of my daily work — I’m always happy to share knowledge and chat about projects! If you get confortable can help us with anything you best do.

You are also welcome to come with me to my office, where you can access the internet, work on your own projects, and interact with my team

Lajeado is a vibrant and welcoming city with an excellent quality of life. Nestled along the beautiful Taquari River, it offers a perfect mix of urban convenience and nature. You’ll love strolling through the Botanical Garden, exploring the Historical Park (which preserves the region’s immigrant heritage), or relaxing in green spaces like Dick’s Park and Princesa do Vale Park. The city also has interesting museums (such as the Bruno Born Historic Municipal Museum), a lively university atmosphere thanks to Univates, and a strong cultural scene influenced by German and Italian roots — think delicious local food, traditional festivals, and a warm gaúcho spirit.

The region is great for outdoor activities, with beautiful river views, parks, and easy access to the countryside. It’s a safe, dynamic place where you can enjoy both peaceful nature and modern amenities.
Personally, I’m very active and practice sports every day: karate, CrossFit, and padel. If you enjoy staying active, we can train together or explore the city’s sports options!

We’re excited to welcome Workawayers who want to experience real Brazilian family life, help with the hotel, practice English/Portuguese, learn about IT, and discover this lovely part of southern Brazil. You’ll feel right at home with us!

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

At our home, you’ll experience authentic Brazilian family life in a warm and welcoming environment.
You will live with a typical Brazilian family: me (Fábio), my wife Júlia, our daughter Luísa, our lively Yorkshire Terrier Pituco, and our little hamster Pandora. We speak Portuguese at home, but we love practicing English together, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to improve your Portuguese while helping us with English/Italian.
Cultural exchange moments happen naturally every day:

    Sharing delicious home-cooked Brazilian meals
Participating in our traditional Sunday family churrasco (Brazilian barbecue), where we gather, grill meat, enjoy good conversation, and relax together — a real classic in Brazilian culture!
Experiencing the relaxed and affectionate way Brazilian families interact

For those who enjoy staying active, there’s a strong sports culture here. I practice sports every day, and you’re very welcome to join me in:

    Karate
    CrossFit
    Padel
    Beach tennis
Biking along the beautiful Taquari River or around the city

You’ll also discover local Gaúcho traditions from southern Brazil, try typical regional foods, learn about our German and Italian immigrant heritage, and enjoy the vibrant university atmosphere of Lajeado.
We believe the best cultural exchange happens through daily life — laughing together, cooking, exercising, and sharing stories. You’ll leave with a real understanding of how a Brazilian family lives, eats, celebrates, and stays active.
We can’t wait to share these moments with you!

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for friendly and motivated Workawayers who can help us with daily household tasks .

At home, help is always welcome with everyday chores such as cleaning, organizing, cooking simple meals, doing laundry, or helping our daughter Luísa on homework our playing with dog Pituco.
    .

If you want to go with me at crossfit or Karate, you are more than welcome.

We value flexibility, a positive attitude, and the willingness to help where needed most each day. The tasks are usually light and varied, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the city, practice Portuguese (or English/Italian with us), and experience real Brazilian family life.

If you’re someone who enjoys being part of a family routine and is open to helping in both home and office environments, you’ll fit perfectly with us!

This host offers a language exchange
Yes, we are very interested in language and culture exchange! We speak Portuguese at home and would love to help you practice and improve your Brazilian Portuguese in real daily situations — through conversations at meals, while doing activities together, or just relaxing in the evening. At the same time, we enjoy practicing and improving our English/Italian with you. It’s a great opportunity for mutual learning in a relaxed and natural way. Language exchange happens organically here: during family churrasco on Sundays, while cooking together, doing sports, or simply chatting about our cultures. Many of our previous Workawayers left speaking much better Portuguese, and we improved our English/Italian thanks to their help. If you’re open to speaking both languages every day in a friendly family environment, you’ll feel very welcome with us!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own private room with a comfortable single bed, a wardrobe, a desk, and a window with natural light. The room is clean, quiet, and cozy — perfect for resting after a day of activities or exploring the city.
Our apartment is spacious, spread over two floors, with three bathrooms (you’ll share one with the family, but it’s rarely busy). You’ll also have access to a lovely outdoor area with a swimming pool and a beautiful panoramic view of Lajeado . It’s a great spot to relax, read, or enjoy the sunset after a busy day.
You can use the kitchen to prepare meals or join us for family dinners, and the living areas are open for everyone to share. Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment, and we have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Breakfast and dinner are prepared and shared at home with the Workawayer.
For lunch, the guest can either join Fábio (who usually has lunch about 800 meters from the apartment) or feel free to cook at home using the ingredients we provide.

We live in a duplex apartment on 3rd floor. On the upper floor, you’ll find the kitchen, living room, laundry area, pool, and terrace, while the bedrooms are located on the lower floor. Unfortunately, there is no elevator in the building, but we like to think of it as our daily involuntary workout! You will stay in our extra bedroom, which is usually where our daughter keeps her toys (don’t worry—we will remove them so you have more space and comfort). We will also provide you with a private bathroom. The internet connection is strong throughout the entire apartment and has no usage limits.

    Pandora (1 year)

Pandora is our adorable little Syrian hamster. She’s tiny, fluffy, and full of energy, especially at night when she loves running on her wheel. She’s gentle and curious, and enjoys being held carefully. Our daughter Luísa loves taking care of her.

    Profile photo of Pituco

    Pituco (4 years)

Pituco, our adorable Yorkshire Terrier, is a very important member of our family!
He is a typical Yorkie: small, energetic, and full of personality. Pituco is super active and loves to run around the house, play, and explore everything. He especially enjoys jumping on laps for cuddles and has a funny habit of licking people’s feet — he thinks that’s the best way to show affection!
At first, he can be a little jealous and shy when new people arrive (he barks a bit to “protect” the family), but once he gets used to you — which usually happens very quickly — he becomes extremely excited and affectionate. He will follow you around the house, want to play, and happily sit on your lap.
If you love dogs, you’ll have a great time with Pituco.
