    Description

Hi guys! I am Andrey, a writer and filmmaker from Macedonia passionate about nature and adventure sports. We built a tiny three-bedroom summerhouse a few years ago, with a vegetable and fruit garden, a fish pond (carp for fishing), and a natural swimming pool. Originally it was supposed to be just the house and the garden, but the land is big and I keep coming up with new projects I'd like to do, like a yoga platform on the massive trunk of our 200-year-old beech tree. We grow tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, herbs, cherries, quinces, apples, pears, walnuts, and hazelnuts and we have a few bee hives. I intend to turn this place into a tiny paradise for both humans and wildlife.
The house is surrounded by a beautiful mixed pine and beech forest and being next to the border, the summits above us provide spectacular views toward the ranges in Macedonia to the West and Bulgaria to the East.

October in the Macedonian countryside is a fascinating time to taste and learn about cooking and distilling some of the best foods and drinks you've ever tasted. This is when pretty much every household cooks the traditional ajvar stored in jars for the winter, but ajvar is only one from a variety of amazing relishes we prepare from our homegrown vegetables.

Macedonia is a place of fascinating folklore and the region of Pijanec where the guesthouse is found, is the home of UNESCO heritage folk dance called Kopachka.

There is amazing hiking and mountain biking in the region and some interesting villages and ancient ruins both in Macedonia or a short drive across the border to Bulgaria. On the weekends I am happy to take you for a hike or visit a place of interest and show you around.

I am a filmmaker, writer, and amateur painter and I am happy to teach you about all of this stuff, while my dad is an expert in traditional style stone and brick building and will happily teach you the basics.

There are a couple of unfinished projects that I would need some help finishing. I would like to improve the water flow in the natural pool and create a tiny beach and relaxation area, I need to finish the path that goes from one end to the other of the property, fix some details around the house like painting wood, fill holes, build shelves, and take some care to make it pretty with handmade arts and crafts using natural materials from the forest.

Macedonian is a south Slavic language related to and mutually intelligible with Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian. If you speak Macedonian you will likely understand a good part of the South-Slavic language speaking nations. We are happy to teach you.

    What else ...

The house is remote, so expect to be surrounded by nature. There is good wi-fi. This is an LGBT-friendly environment. The nearest town is 8 km. We are happy to give you a ride whenever possible or arrange a taxi for you. There are no buses. The tasks can be challenging at times - moving stones and pushing a wheelbarrow with concrete, so make sure you are up for such help when you apply.
