Description
My family owns a small island in Northern Patagonia, Chile. The island protects one of the few myrtle forests (arrayán trees) in the world and is home to two types of bioluminescent life.
Our goal is to develop a self-sustainable park featuring a botanical garden and a sailing school.
We are looking for help with construction projects, garden and orchard maintenance, and the restoration and upkeep of traditional wooden sailboats.
Life on the island offers unique experiences: you can fish from the shore, collect shellfish during full and new moons, and explore the native forest.
Despite its peaceful and natural setting, we are located just 1 mile from the town of Calbuco.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I am a sailing instructor at San Sebastián University and I am currently building my own sailing school here on the island. On weekends, there will be opportunities to learn the basics of sailing, and I can also share knowledge about celestial navigation.
As we will be the only residents on the island, it is important that we work together as a team, communicate openly, and bring a positive attitude to this adventure.
Please keep in mind that weather conditions sometimes lead to port closures, meaning we may not be able to leave the island for a few days. Life here is simple and community-oriented: sometimes we organize activities for local residents, and other times we visit Calbuco to socialize and enjoy time together.
This experience is ideal for people who enjoy nature, teamwork, self-sufficiency, and island life.

Help
At the moment we mainly need help improving our solar panel system, doing some woodwork projects, and helping maintain the boats and the island, keeping it clean and well cared for.
If you're interested in learning, we’re happy to share knowledge about tools, island life and working with local materials.

Accommodation
On the island, we have a cabin, two tiny houses, and a glamping structure.
During the summer season (December to February), our main focus is tourism, so some of these accommodations may be occupied by guests. In those cases, volunteers can stay in tents that we provide, fully equipped to ensure a comfortable sleeping experience.
From March onward, when tourism slows down, volunteers may stay in the cabin, tiny houses, or glamping facilities, depending on availability.
The stay includes breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon meal or dinner. We share meals as a community and usually take turns cooking on a voluntary basis.
A few friends also live on the island and help manage daily operations when I am traveling or working elsewhere. Because of this, the tasks and projects vary throughout the year and according to the season.
What else ...
The island is located in the first archipelago in the world composed of 14 islands. In addition, about 20 km away is the crossing to Chiloé Island.
The island has a pier and several boats.
The only way to access the island is by sea.
