* We have space for workawayers again in November until beginning of December, preferably TWO WORKAWAYERS. Please read through our entire profile and only reply if your heart really says YES.*
We are a little family of three: two adorable children (almost 4 and almost 5 years old) and a mum, and we love being with each other, laughing, playing, being outdoors, cooking & baking (and eating, of course ;-) ), movement, gardening, music and spending time with inspiring people. We try to LIVE SUSTAINABLY and are VEGETARIANs (we eat mostly fresh, VEGAN/plant-based foods, and when possible gluten-free). Also, I am a Pilates teacher and educated as a doula and very passionate about natural, free and home birth, about peaceful parenting, community building, healthy lifestyle, mindful living and self-directed learning. Besides, I am busy starting a blog and an online business of some sorts, plus we are planning to move to a farm with more space - with a garden, animals, guest rooms, a studio for Pilates, acro-yoga, aerial yoga, dance etc., space for regular meet-ups with our unschooling community on Bornholm, organizing courses e.g. for doulas and two apartments to rent out to mostly unschooling families and families who'd wish to have a home birth in a peaceful, beautiful and supportive environment.
We are unschooling, i.e. the children are learning by living, and I trust that all children naturally have the competence, motivation and desire to learn and grow. For us, it is very important that the needs and feelings of EVERYONE in the family (including you, of course) are heard and RESPECTed, and we believe that all humans are WORTH EQUALLY MUCH, no matter their age, skin colour, nationality etc. <3 When we open our home to complete strangers, it is important that you respect that this is our beloved home, and a safe space, especially for the children. Here, they are loved unconditionally. They are allowed to be alive, to be themselves, to be children. And they can and will be loud at times. Of course, I ask them to respect others. But if you are looking for a place with the quiet of a church or a museum, then our home is not the place to go.
Vital for me in life is JOY, even in our work. I strongly believe that we all do best for others and ourselves when we do things we like, and are in an environment where we feel comfortable. So who we are looking for is someone who greatly ENJOYs CHILDREN and who wants to inspire and support us with her/his culture, knowledge, interests, personality, energy, talents and passions. We are such a small family, so we love some extra people in the house sometimes. Hopefully, you want to be with the children quite a lot and bring in whatever makes you heart jump. That could be anything from scouting over dancing, playing an instrument, drawing, doing acrobatics, swimming, singing, ball games, telling stories, building puzzles, sewing or speaking a new language to cooking your own local dishes. Anything. Your thing(s)! <3 If it's ok with both the children and yourself, you might also want to spend quite some time playing pillow fights, building sand castles and train tracks, running around, painting, playing hide and seek or dancing, which are some of their favourite things to do at the moment, as well as some video games (which is something I know absolutely nothing about but is a great interest of them right now). Also, it would be great if you could help a bit with the COOKING and some light HOUSE WORK as well as other small things that might come up. And we have started to grow our own veggies and berries, so during the warmer months of the year there is quite a bit of GARDENING work as well that we'd love to share :-) We also have a piano that you are very welcome to play. It is vital for me that you are a person who TAKEs INITIATIVE yourself quite a bit; that you come up to the kids (or me) with your own suggestions to read or go to the beach or whatever, that you notice that pile of dishes yourself and wash it etc.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD. And while my plan is to move onto a farm with space for more people and some animals, as well as creating a supportive local community, this all takes a bit of time. But as a single mum without family close by and newly moved to the island, I really, really feel the need for that village, evey single day. Urgently. Both because I really need some me-time in between, and because the children need other adults for inspiration, guidance, play, support and learning. So that is the main reason for us to start with workaway - you are a big part of our current village. And many times my heart almost melts when I receive applications from wonderful people, and each time when we have new workawayers I find it mind blowing that there can be be so many different kinds of amazing people. You guys are fantastic, and I feel blessed to be able to be part of this way of exchange. <3 So: thank you for reading here, and please write if you feel that we could be a great match!
You will get your own little room in our small but cozy town house from where you can cycle to both the forest and the beach in 15 minutes. It would be wonderful to learn more about your culture, and it is important to us that you feel welcome and at home.
We are thinking that a length of minimum 3 weeks is suitable for a stay, but we are open to suggestions and we will also experiment a bit over time. At the moment, we would prefer to have TWO WORKAWAYERS (friends, siblings, couples etc.) since we can use quite a bit of help with both cooking, some cleaning and gardening and around the children.
Snakker du dansk? We would love to have some fluent DANISH speakers to stay with us every now and then, so we get some practice (while you can explore and enjoy a beautiful part of your home country ;-) ) as well as SWEDISH speakers, also for language practise. But travellers of all languages and backgrounds are very welcome to apply.
We are receiving lots of requests from workawayers. Please make sure that you have read through our profile, and please take a few minutes to tell us a little bit about yourself, especially if you share hardly any information on your own profile page, and let us know why you would like to live with us. <3
We are looking very much forward to hearing from you!

I believe that just living with other people, and especially being around children, is always a great chance to learn and grow. You can also maybe learn a language with us - depending on what languages you do(n't) speak - as well as discovering new thoughts about unschooling, deschooling, health, birth, maybe a new culture or a recipe, and about living on our beautiful island. And, of course, play, laugh and live with us!
Furthermore, you will most likely get to know some - or many - of our dear friends. During the last months, we have really found more and more people who are so amazing and inspiring and part of our tribe. (Even one of our previous workawayers moved to our island because she has become so much part of our family by choice.) So if you are looking for new friends, fantastic conversations, shared dinners and the like, you will most likely find some great people here.
Also, Bornholm is such a beautuful island. In 15 minutes you cycle to the beach or the woods from our home, and the nature on the entire island is very diverse and spectecular with lakes, cliffs, gorgeous long, white sand beaches etc. We absolutely love it, and I bet that you will, too. Summer, of course, is lovely - and all the other seasons have their charm, too. In the autumn this island offers the most beautiful local fruit and vegetables such as figs, pumkins, tomatoes, apples and the colourful forest. And the cold seasons are probably the best way to experience Danish "hygge" with good food and good company. We all love sitting by the fire place, but also watching the impressive waves on windy days, and we greatly enjoy the occasional snowfall.
Spending time with the children is the main part we would want you to do (of course unless you for some reason should not "click" with each other). It is therefore very important that you truly enjoy being around children <3 The kids are usually very excited, respectful, fun and inviting; they just love when people are open and join into their play. Giggle, build, bake, jump, dance, paint, whatever. And they are children full of energy and excitement and love and life. For me, it is vital that they feel accepted and respected just the way they are, even more so in the workaway setting, since you will be part of our home which should be their safe haven <3
Apart from being with the children, I would appreciate some help with cooking, dishes as well as helping a bit around house and garden. And sharing your experiences, passions, knowledge and interests with all of us!
A bonus would be if you spoke Danish, Swedish or German, so we can practise our languages. Or maybe you can teach us a bit of a new language!
Oh, and I greatly appreciate self-starters and people who take initiative themselves sometimes. That you come up to the kids to suggest games or activities. That you sit down next to them (if it is ok with them) to show an interest in what they are doing. That you vacuum clean the floor when the kids just brought plenty of soil into the kitchen and you notice that I am exhausted. And stuff like that.
English, Swedish, German and a bit of Danish
You will have your own little room in a small-ish but super cosy town house. You will sleep on a wonderful 140x200cm Zen style futon made from natural fibres, being completely vegan, chemical and plastic free, which can be extended to 220x200cm for people who love a larger bed or for co-sleeping families.
Our home is parfume free.
We would be happy to share meals, at the same time as we sometimes might have different routines or times (for example if the kids fall asleep around dinner time). In general, I expect you to just help yourself and to take initiative. I would greatly appreciate if you also would eat vegan or at least vegetarian in our house.
Bornholm is a gorgeous island with cozy little villages and wonderful, very diverse nature. Long white, sandy beaches, cliffs, forests, hills, birds,... Lots of sports opportunities, attractions, arts (including a world reknown ceramics design university), and people who are friendly, helpful, open, creative and many of them alternative. We live in Nexø which is the second largest town of the island, and it is both very peaceful and yet central here, with just a few minutes walk to the next bus stops. Plus, you have an amazing view of a sky filled with stars at most nights <3
Bornholm is located in the South of Sweden and East of Denmark, which can easily be reached by ferry from both Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland, and by plane from Copenhagen and some other places in Denmark.
