    Hello lovely people
I’m living on Ometepe (Balgue) with my dog Freyja, and I’m planning to travel off the island in January. For that time, I’m looking for a kind person or couple who would love to take care of her.
Freyja is 10 months old, probably a mix of German Shepherd and Border Collie — so she has lots of energy and a big heart.
We live in a wooden cabaña at Finca Magdalena, an organic coffee farm surrounded by nature.
If this sounds like something for you, I’d love to connect. The exchange includes a free stay in a wooden cabana and the use of a scooter, but food is not included.

You are living within a local community. Finca Magdalena is owned by 26 families, and the people working here are incredibly warm and always greet you with a big smile. It’s a perfect place if you want to improve your Spanish and learn more about Nicaraguan culture.
From Finca Magdalena, you can walk up the volcano, visit ancient petroglyphs, or hike to a natural pool with cold, refreshing water. There is also a restaurant on site with very affordable prices. Finca Magdalena is located in Balgue, with many shops and restaruants. Its not far from Santa Cruz, a perfect place to enjoy quiteness and nature but beeing super close to all the activites offered on island. Also, you will be able to use my scooter, so getting around is even more easy.

    The responsibilities include:

Feeding Freyja three times a day (I will show you how to prepare her food, as she eats rice, vegetables, and chicken). Taking her for a daily walk of at least one hour. Spending time playing with her and doing some simple training exercises (I’ll explain and show you exactly what I mean)

The cabaña you would stay in has one double bed and a small veranda where you can cook. It is very basic, so please only consider it if you don’t expect anything fancy. However, you’ll find everything you need, and someone comes twice a week to clean. From the cabaña you can see the lake, and from the hammock the forest with monkeys, so it’s truly magical. 🌿✨

    What else ...

I would prefer someone with experience with dogs. Freyja is a very loving dog, but she doesn’t feel comfortable around many street dogs. When she was younger, she was attacked several times on the island, which has made her more cautious. Because of this, I always take her on the scooter when we go out, and the scooter will also be available for you. She cannot go to places with many street dogs, and when leaving Finca Magdalena she will always need to be on a leash. I’m therefore looking for someone who has experience handling dogs in this kind of situation and feels confident doing so.

The internet was recently upgraded, as I work online and have many Zoom calls. There is also a backup battery and a surge protector, since electricity on the island goes out from time to time.
