Hi Everyone :)
We are a Family run holiday hostel in the centre of a busy town in the west of Ireland. Westport town was voted "Best place to live" in Ireland in 2012 in an Irish Times competition. Our hostel is located in the heart of the old town within minutes of all the cultural activities going on in the pubs, galleries and museums. Westport has over 300 voluntary organisations which make it a vibrant place to live with a great range of activities to suit all tastes & age groups.
Our hostel is a unique historic mill building c.300 years old with big oak beams supporting the floors and natural stone masonry walls. It has a very quirky location, shape and arrangement unique to Westport. Converted to a hostel in 1990 it has recently been upgraded with new rooms, new bathrooms and a new kitchen. As the building is in the centre of the town we are beside the new cinema, a new leisure centre with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room & plunge pool. It also has a very good gym and lots of fitness classes including yoga, dance & pilates. We are also near to the tourist information office, adventure activity centres, bike rental shops, the local catholic & protestant church, the main supermarkets & shops and only minutes from Matt Molloys Pub(famous for Irish traditional music every night of the week.) The local library is also less than 200 metres away. You don't need a car when you live in the center of everything. There is also a new skateboard park, outdoor gym and basketball court beside the new greenway( a pedestrian & cycle only path). We have 4 helpers bicycles to help you get around.
We are open from April to October and close for the winter. The work starts off slow and then we get busy as the summer approaches. July and August are very busy times. As part of the work you will learn to make Irish bread and scones. We experiment daily with baking fresh bread for the guests.
Playing music would be an advantage as there are lots of musicians in the hostel at any given time. The summer is filled with music and art festivals which are nearly on a weekly basis.
A very big "Thank you, thank you, thank you..." to our helpers .... every year is different and every helper is different too! We hope OUR helpers take home happy memories of their time spent in Westport.
