Description
This place is an intentional community located in Nayarit, Mexico - about a 5-minute drive from the pueblo, Higuera Blanca (which is located mid-way between Sayulita and Punta de Mita, Nayarit). We uses a local participatory processes to integrate ecological and social values in order to regenerate our natural and collective environments. We strive to live with low-impact on nature, along with with simple, high-quality lifestyles that are bound together by a common vision to live sustainably (both ecologically and socially). Our electricity is produced by solar panels with the surplus going to the grid; we collect rainwater off our roofs to store in cisterns; we have a common septic system; we harvest fruit from several tress; and are working to develop our food forest and permaculture gardens. Grey water systems support gardens and composting revitalizes our soil and food production. Common areas are linked by stone pathways leading to all homes, and include a meeting and potluck area with group tables, as well as a lower area next to the beach where we have a fire-pit, pizza oven and coconut trees. We have a Peace Garden where yoga and meditation can be practices throughout the year. We actively partner with and pay attention to our natural gifts of sun, water and food that surround us . We believe our community thrives when eating, celebrating and doing tasks together, as well as going through the collective process of making decisions, developing our annual budget and transforming inevitable conflicts or disagreements into interpersonal and collective growth.
We have two part-time paid staff, who support general maintenance and cleaning, the majority of tasks and property management is done by residents or volunteers living here.
Our community lifestyle is based on environmental and ethical values, permaculture projects, respect for people and places and, of course, creativity and well being. We share the desire to find alternative ways of inhabiting the earth by getting ourselves involved and connected every day.Types of help and learning opportunities

We think globally and act locally as a community based in Mexico. We stand before the urgency of demonstrating radical actions of caring for the earth in our lifestyle, while also valuing local communities and mindfully integrating with Mexican culture and lifestyle. We honor the ancestral land of the Huichol peoples where our community is located, and have welcomed the Huichol and indigenous neighbors in activities and ceremonies, while practicing outreach, spiritual practices and education with the surrounding area.
We are responding to the call to live in relation to the needs of the next seven generations in everything we do. This holds the promise of being a presence instilling eco-consciousness as it intersects locally and regionally.Help
We are currently looking for volunteers focused on agriculture (gardening, permaculture, agroforestry, with some basic landscaping, grounds maintenance and "handyperson" / house maintenance as well.) Specialized skills surrounding construction and eco-building are also very welcome and may support current projects in our community and houses.
Other daily tasks may vary depending on the current and seasonal demand of the community and climate, however we anticipate approximately 50-60% of volunteer time supporting special projects surrounding gardening, permaculture and expanding our common areas; 20-30% surrounding general grounds maintenance and 10-20% surrounding general house maintenance (note these are estimates, and the needs can can vary depending on the season).
We value volunteers willing to both learn and share skills, while integrating within a community experience. We are looking for volunteers who are passionate or interested in gardening, landscaping and/or eco-building. Experience in values and practices of permaculture are particularly valued. We will be able to teach and guide you out of our best knowledge, and are also open to learning from volunteers as well.
Our fruit gardens have been well established for a long time but we are still learning, growing and evolving with the intention for expanded gardens and food forest, to start providing produce for our own meals and neighbors. Other projects we aim toward are building a space for bees; worm-composting; planting new edible and medicinal plants; developing our water collection system for gardens and larger water collection systems; expanding our common areas for more collective cooking and meals; and building a storage area for kayaks, surfboards and fishing equipment.
We actively work to build trust, collaboration and openness, and all ideas are welcome. We value and practice social equity and creating an inclusive environment. We have both mono-lingual English and Spanish speakers in our community, while all working towards language learning and principles of language justice.Languages spoken

One floor house that is part of a "duplex" type structure. Your space may be shared with one other volunteer.
Our houses are simple, but comfortable with ocean views and 2-3 minute walk to the beach. Each accommodation has a private bathroom (which may shared with one other volunteer) with shower, and kitchen area adequate to cook meals and refrigerate food. What else ...
Our eco-village is semi-remote, and a 5 minute drive, 10-15 min. bike ride or 20-30 min. walk to our neighboring pueblo, Higuera Blanca, which is a small Mexican community where you can find basic groceries, small restaurants / taco-stands, and a hardware store. We are a 20 minute drive from Sayulita and a 10 minute drive to Punta Mita, which are slightly larger and more tourist areas with several more restaurants, etc. We are a 30 minute drive to Bucerias, where a large "supermarket" is located, and a 50-60 minute drive to / from the Puerto Vallarta airport.
Local busses are available to/from Higuera Blanca to Sayulita, Punta Mita, Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta (adding about 50% time to driving time above).A little more information
