Description
I live in a small village nestled between mountains in the beautiful Great Alpine Region of Victoria, Australia. I acknowledge and pay respects to the traditional Indigenous custodians of the area; the Taungurung, Dhudhuroa, Waywurru, Gunaikurnai, and Jaithmathang peoples.
I’m a couple of years into recovering from an injury and adjusting to acquired physical disabilities, so am looking for help with tasks that will support this. My big goals this year are to focus on my PhD application and explore the mountain ranges I now call home. This Work-away is open to women and LGBTQIA+ humans. As I have one spare room with a double bed would ideally suit solo travellers.
It is a quiet village (approx 350 residents) and a well known travel region nestled within the Alpine National Park. One of my favourite parts living here are the beautiful rivers flowing from Mountains, including a swimming spot in my backyard! Bright is our closest main town, a 25 minute drive from my home (exact location upon interview).
You will discover a nature lovers haven and adventurers playground, including
- Hiking and bush walking (Grades 1-5), mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding (mid June to late September), four-wheel driving, waterfalls, Trout fishing, camping, white water rafting, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, horse riding, rock climbing, abseiling, hang gliding and bouldering.
- Striking Snow Gum and Alpine Ash Eucalyptus.
- European Elm, Chestnut, Poplar and Scarlett Oak trees that light up in orange and red delight in the Autumn.
- Cacophonies of birds, kangaroos, marsupials (a little harder to spot), deer, horses, cows, snakes, goats, butterflies and more.
- Excellent quality food, luxurious spas, live music, gold rush history, farmers markets, arts and craft and more!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I recently moved to these beautiful mountains from a beachside town in Western Australia. I’ve spent most of my life living in Australian cities and am loving adapting to regional living. I love learning about different cultures, peoples passions and lives. I am very passionate about community care, human rights and environmental sustainability. I love reading, music art, cooking and adventure and in a time where I am unable to travel, I hope to bring travel back into my world through hosting.
Help
For short stays I am looking for people to help out with cooking, cleaning, odd day to day tasks or carrying my pack on a bush walk.
For longer stays I am looking for people who may be able to offer more specific support in things like yoga and meditation, teaching me a new language or craft, IT organising of my computer chaos, academic collaboration in the human rights, disability and community care fields and physical therapy out in nature.
If you have a car (this is not a requirement) I would be interested in exploring the nature of the Alpine region together, as I don’t have medical approval to drive myself (I do have neighbours and local friends with cars so we would not be isolated in an emergency). This may look like driving together somewhere, sharing a meal or a bush walk and/or going off to do our own thing.Languages

English: FluentThis host offers a language exchange
I love teaching friends English, and have studied at a post graduate level so could help with academic English. I am open to learning any language, but would be particularly interested in learning sign language, either AUSLAN or sign from other countries.Accommodation
I live alone in a cosy and clean two bedroom unit that looks up at mountains on either side, has a park and river in the backyard. I have a small bedroom with a comfortable double bed, soft sheets and towels and wardrobe to offer.
The carpets are clean, dishwasher speedy, bath deep and shower pressure is good. The kitchen, dining and lounge are in one big room and there is an undercover front porch.
The laundry is shared with the other residents of the set of units. You would be sharing amenities with me.
I am mainly vegetarian and happy to not cook meat while you are here if this is most comfortable to you. Food provides will be vegetarian, however you are welcome to cook meat in the kitchen. As cooking is one of the essential tasks I need help with, we can chat more about what this is.
I have lovely neighbours, including majestic horses and quirky goats.
Transport
- You can access Bright and surrounding towns, sights and activities with a car. This is not included in the stay but I have space for you to park your car.
- Bus transport is limited to Monday, Wednesday and Friday via the Omeo to Bright Alps Link. There are shuttle buses to the top of Mount Hotham in the snow season.
- I live here happily without a car and there is much to explore within walking or biking riding distance. I can organise you a bike and pick you up from Bright if you travel here via train and bus. What else ...
I live a very mellow and quiet life focused on my recovery. This is not a party home and would really suit someone who loves to spend time in nature and is comfortable with doing their own thing. Would be awesome for solo van travellers looking for a rest in a home or some extra shelter when the weather turns wild. I love to share meals, a morning coffee and the gorgeous nature and community surrounding my home. However my capacity can be unpredictable, particularly with fatigue so don’t be surprised to see me reading or resting for hours.
My career and research specialisation is in human rights development and advocacy, with a focus on intersectional feminism and disability rights. My home, heart and friendships reflect this. Tell me a bit about what this means to you to be sure we’re the right match.
Clear and kind hearted communication is very important to me. I hope to collaboratively create a safe and fun place for travellers of all kinds.A little more information

The best internet reception here is the Telstra Data pack I have from my phone, therefor I do not have wifi set up and you would need to organise your own. I can set up a desk for you to work from and there is a picnic table in the park out back, under the shade and overlooking the river.
