  • Description

The household consists of myself, my husband a dog (dachapoo) as well as about 40 chickens and two horses (not ours) which graze the fields. So far we have had an Italian, a Spaniard, two Frenchmen and a Frenchwoman in their early and late 20s who have come to work with us. We have kept in touch and (because we are required to “blow our own trumpets”) they thoroughly enjoyed their stay, the varied work, food, accommodation, English lessons, company, conversation and outings.

Love to help improve your spoken English and from time to time will take you out and about to see local places and events. In addition we have Cambridge within a short bus ride, as well as numerous interesting villages and towns to explore.

  • Help

Working with us in the fields on the land, from clearing nettles and brush to planting or chopping down trees, preparing wood piles for the winter, helping with the chickens, mowing, living a predominantly outdoor life and normally working companionably either with my husband or myself. We are elderly in body (not spirit) so can’t undertake the more vigorous work we did before.

    What else ...

Fen Drayton is a small village, typical of the area and if you enjoy walking has a RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) Nature Reserve which we overlook and offers miles of pathways through the Fens, rivers and lakes. If you prefer to bicycle you may use mine. Additionally there is a very good local pub, the Three Tuns. To rest your legs, the guided bus is currently the longest route in the world and passes through beautiful countryside to reach the centre of Cambridge (about 20 minutes ride) with its numerous delights: visual, culinary and entertaining. London is within easy reach by train.
