    Description

This is an organic farm run by around 30 of us (plus children). We live in different households that have been adapted from a Georgian manor house, stable block and other outbuildings. We garden and farm a large area of land and our charity, The Frome Society, runs occasional events such as singing workshops, yoga etc.

We are not a commercial enterprise. We tend our 40 acres of land together to produce a significant amount of our own food including meat, milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

The land includes pasture (for dairy cows, sheep, goats, chickens and sometimes pigs and geese), arable fields (producing feed for our animals as well as ourselves), a walled vegetable garden, greenhouse and polytunnels, orchard, a small area of woodland and a lake and garden. We welcome help with everything around the place - including the animals, in the veg garden, on the grounds and buildings and with things like cheesemaking when the milk is in full flow!

We generally host up to 3 Workawayers (and Wwoofers) for roughly two to three weeks at a time. We do this about once a month from late spring through to the end of summer.

We generally we start looking at things to be done around 10am , pause at 1pm for a lunch hour and finish around 4pm

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have been hosting for almost 40 years now. People seem to like it here... learning a little about community living and helping out with tasks about the farm.

We prefer that our volunteers are reasonably proficient in speaking English.

    Help

We mainly require help on the farm and garden and with the farm animals. If you have building skills we may have maintenance or building projects that you could assist on. When there is a lot of milk being produced we welcome help with cheese-making.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is in a shared or private room and includes a toilet and shower room. Plus a larger kitchen and sitting room. We can accommodate one campervan.

We provide vegetarian food for you to self-cater most meals. We have a communal meal every Saturday evening and usually there are one or two other shared meals per week. Please note that we try to use or own produce as much as possible which includes a lot of dairy and eggs.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are in a rural area, seven miles from the nearest town. If you don't have your own transport we can usually sort out lifts into town on days off. Local attractions include the nearby small city of Hereford famous its cathedral housing the Mappa Mundi, the book town of Hay on Wye and walking on the Malvern Hills. The closest town is Ledbury which has some interesting shops and decent coffee shops.

There is a nice circular walk out the back of our place over the fields via a small hamlet and church (no shops or pub there though) through woodlands and parkland. The walk takes about an hour and the best bit is you can do it without having to get in a car or walk along a road.
