Dave came to us for just over a week at the end of the summer. He is a really good-natured guy, up for any task and ready for a laugh as well! We enjoyed his company and were really grateful for his hard work too.

I really had the most lovely two weeks in the community. From the very first moment, I felt so welcomed by Erica and all the other residents. Spending time with them was such a joy! All the tasks and activities were well organised and there was always someone around to ask questions. From milking, making cheese, weeding, to chopping, composting

It was really rewarding to be engaged in necessary tasks and everyone seemed to appreciate the help very much. Everyone was open to share their experiences, coffee and delicious meals. All the produce was excellent and I must have eaten my weight in yogurt and raspberries. We were invited to also share some after work get togethers, sports and singing, all which were great fun! I already miss my time there and want to say thank you again for creating such a beautiful place! Would recommend wholeheartedly for anyone looking for an enriching volunteer experience.

A huge thank you to Erica and all who welcomed me into their community, it has been a great experience for my first volunteer role.
After a lovely tour when I arrived I was very pleased to see that I would be able to get involved with so many different aspects of the farm, anything I showed an interest in was accommodated. Managed milking (a few
… read more dribbles), making cheese, yoghurt etc, feeding the goats, and spent a lot of time in the beautiful kitchen garden, harvesting the produce due to the time of year, and I managed to contribute to the endless weeding in a small way at least!
Even thoroughly enjoyed the time spent learning about different methods of composting, great to think this all goes back into feeding the soil for the extensive produce grown there.
Loved the communal meals and also enjoyed preparing a few meals myself, as the ingredients tasted 100 times better than any I get from the supermarket.
So many interesting conversations during welcome tea breaks with the residents and other volunteers.
Thanks so much, I'll hopefully pay a return visit, and this has given me the confidence to go and do some other placements. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Left by host for Workawayer (Faye)
Faye is an experienced Workawayer, and familiar too with community living. She has a lovely calm presence that belies an actively enquiring mind and a huge wealth of knowledge on many fascinating subjects. We had some great chats.
She was a great help in the garden - she is a knowledgeable and experienced grower - and is that rare and wonderful

She also became Butter-Maker-in-Chief whilst here and we had the most perfectly presented little packets of fresh and creamy butter individually wrapped in greaseproof paper- rather than our more usual splodge in a bowl.
She did loads of other things too, always happy to turn her hand to whatever the task may be. She would be an asset to anyone's project.
Left by host for Workawayer (Sara)
Sara is a great Workawayer. We all loved her and want her back - at the very least to visit again so we can catch up on her latest adventures!
It helped that she was really keen to try her hand at cheesemaking because we were overwhelmed with more milk than ever at the time of her visit. She learns fast and is really good in a kitchen set-up. By

A few times she was still going back and forth to the kitchen late at night to do the final bits. She tried her hand at cow and goat milking, helped out hugely in the garden where there was a lot of planting to be done and - happily for for us - she was here at haymaking time and was a much welome extra pair of hands for bail heaving.
This woman is good-natured and enthusiastic, keen to learn, easy to have around and just has a great attitude. She works well with others but is also totally fine working alone. You won't regret hosting her.

This Workaway will always be very memorable for all the right reasons. The accommodation was comfortable and I enjoyed the food (particularly when we were invited by the residents to eat with them). The Pot Luck meal on the Saturday evening was fun (the community eat together bringing a dish to share).
I joined in with some of the regular activities outside of working hours. The Choir evening was lovely and I had some great games of badminton. There was also volleyball and tai chi too.
I really recommend this Workaway experience. I felt very privileged to be a part of their community. It is a very special place with great people!
Thanks Erica and everyone for the time I spent with you. I had an amazing time!

I spent a fabulous 3 weeks in August. What an incredible opportunity to experience life living in community whilst getting your hands in the soil - hugely inspiring.

We'd cook our own meals using amazing produce from the farm, and an abundance of fresh milk, yogurt and cheese. There were regularly morning teas, pot luck lunches and dinners when the community would get together which was just lovely.
I was lucky enough to get involved with the animals too and particularly loved getting to know the goats.
The community were so unbelievably welcoming, and incredibly patient with my constant questioning. I'm hugely grateful for my time with them (and have already been back twice for visits, I just can't seem to keep away)

Living for 3 weeks was an amazing experience! We had such a great welcome, lovely conversations, regularly shared meals and also learned how to make cheese, milk cows and goats. A really lovely place to stay and we will definitely come back!
Thank you all for hosting us!!! We wish you all the best!
We can highly recommend Hilbert &Titia as excellent Workawayers and lovely people: keen to learn, hard-working and conscientious and absolutely lovely to have around!

We had less people here than usual and June can be a very busy time for us. They helped hugely with planting and weeding and all things in the garden. Titia learned to hand-milk the cows and the goats, picking it up very quickly and doing a great job. We had so much milk - and less people on hand to process it. They stepped up and made several different cheeses, fully taking the initiative and seeing the whole process through from start to finish.
They were also a delight socially - joining in with volleyball games, tai-chi, singing, contributing lovely dishes to our communal meals, helping set up for a big party, Hilbert playing accordion at the open mic and both generally being helpful and kind and fitting in very well with our little community.
If you have the chance to host Hilbert & Titia as Workawayers go for it. They're brilliant!
Alex came for 2 weeks at the beginning of the summer then returned again a few weeks later when one of his other volunteer jobs fell through. Well, it was probably one of the best places I have ever been in my life!

We asked her to stay on after her first 2 weeks because from day 1 we could see this was a person who was going to be great to have around. This was a most wonderful workaway experience and I thoroughly recommend a visit to this warm and friendly community. Erica was the fantastic person in charge of volunteers and she looked after us so well and made us feel truly welcome. As this community take volunteers regularly, there is a good routine and all expectations are clearly set out.
… read more We worked 10am to 1 and then 2 to 4pm in general - with coffee and chat breaks too. The tasks are flexible so that volunteers can follow their interests and the work is extremely enjoyable. I learnt how to make cheese, mucked out the hens, weeded the veg plots, planted out cabbages, harvested fruit, stacked hay bales....and much more. There is plenty to do outdoors and the 2 acre veg garden is show stopping. This place is the most wonderful model for living: organic food grown on site and a general zeal for self sufficieny and sustainability. The members I worked with were all keen to share their skills and patient too! It is also a beautiful spot near a pretty market town, Ledbury. I will fondly remember my 2 months here and the people I met. It was very hard to move on.

This woman has absolutely everything you could wish for in THE perfect Workawayer... and even more as a genuinely lovely person.

She's also great with children - really knows how to connect and gently encourage them. She did some fun outdoorsy forest school stuff with ours.
Oh, she's an amazing cook too and can produce a feast singlehandedly for 50 or so people (probably more). Did I mention cake? Yes. Gorgeous cakes for tea breaks every time.
She's got a really great attitude, is very practical and ready to turn her hand to anything. We wish she would stay forever but her adventurous soul is leading her on again. We're going to miss her a lot and of course she is welcome back anytime.

This is a community I wanted to visit for several years, I’ve lived and worked on several rural farms and studied permaculture and tai chi and love this way of life.
I arrived in mid March, lockdown happened and so I stayed for 4 wonderful months!
The work varied from preparing growing beds, propagation and planting out, cheese and jam
… read more making, husbandry for goats, chickens, pigs, sheep and cows, and farm maintenance. Weekends are for larger communal projects when most people are off work, and more people around.
The countryside is stunning, there are bikes and canoes to use to explore, You’ll need a lift to the local town.
There are shared lunches and evening meals and a fantastic array of children, teenagers, young adults, adults and elders, with a huge range of skills.
The accommodation is in the large Manor House, with large kitchen to yourself (others all have their own homes to cook).
It did get lonely in lockdown being the only volunteer, as some take are solo and unable to visit others homes.
There is an on-site shop, although you are well fed! It was so lovely picking your own food from the 2-acre garden for dinner!
I hadn’t laughed so much in years! I loved the stay and it was difficult to leave as felt like home with family and friends.
