    Description

My name is Sarah and I am a Missouri farm girl who moved to Weimar, Germany as an interior design student in 2000. My family moved to a village just outside Weimar where we run a little guest house and do our gardening on our 300 year old historic homes and garden. My husband and I enjoy having guests and someone recently recommended we offer to host in exchange for some help around our home and garden. Workawayers won't be expected to help with the guest house, but perhaps you'll get the chance to meet interesting people.

I have spent years teaching English in case anyone would like to help me around our home while practicing their language skills. I don't mind explaining grammar either!

I also bake sourdough, paint, work with stone/masonry and write songs on my grand piano in case those things interest you as well... I would love to host, meet new people and share our beautiful home with others. I love creating space where people can share their passions and knowledge with others.

Our son has moved out and gotten engaged, but our daughter will be coming back home June 2026 after her 2-year high school experience in the US with my family. Her bedroom with its own bathroom is available until then and we also have a sleepersofa for 2 in our living room, which we don't use very often. There is also an atelier with a sleepersofa for 2. We have 150m2 of living space in our home and a property with 1100m2.

I studied interior design and German as a foreign language, so I speak German fluently while my husband is German and grew up in Weimar.

I am at home nearly all the time, but I have a car to get around and there is a good bus connection to Weimar (only 10 minutes away). There is even a bike path from our village to Weimar. We wouldn't mind showing you around or taking you along on our outings.

Weimar is listed in that book "1000 Places to See Before You Die" and it truly is my favorite town. Culture, history, universities, a music conservatory where there are free concerts if you like- just a lovely place! Weimar in Thüringen is centrally located in Germany and Erfurt is the nearest bigger town, just 15 minutes away by train.

I'd love to hear from you if you feel like getting your hands dirty, exchanging ideas and putting them into practice!! I like to think I have a lot to share with others as well. Hugs!!

    Sincerely, Sarah

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I have lived in Germany since 2000 and I like to visit new places. I am quite flexible as I work from/at home. I am creative, interested in investing and read lots of books (I have a library of German and English books)
I go on walks with our dog, Bailey, who is a Magyar Vizsla and a big cuddle bug.
I enjoy cooking homemade meals, baking and trying out new creative things...if you like those kinds of things, we could do them together!

  • Help

    Help

We always have projects around our home and garden. Gardening and help around our home, whatever you feel inspired to help with, is always greatly appreciated!

I may have to travel back to the US from time to time, so if anyone loves pets and would like to watch our dog, Bailey, and go on walks, that might be another option if that speaks to anyone.

Watering the garden, lawn mowing, harvesting fruit or canning with me are all possibilities...

We have either a bedroom (180x200) + extra bed (100×190) with your own bathroom or a livingroom with a sofa bed and a shared bathroom. We have a garden in case anyone would like to sleep in a tent in the summer.
We have a second refrigerator if you want a place to keep some personal things as well...
We eat everything, but I can cook vegetarian as well...

Our dog lives in our house with us. FYI. We have an outside cat, but he tries to sneak in the house sometimes. In case you have an allergy...
We have extra bikes if you want to cycle into town.

We have high-speed internet and lots of little corners in our home and on our property if you need a quiet place to work online. We love having kids here as well, so we don't mind if you are traveling with children. We have a private playground on our property and it is all walled or fenced in... We sadly don't accept pets as we have our own here and other guests.
