Description
We are Achim (66) and Helena (59).
20 years ago, we left the rat race behind us and moved to the ruins of a former watermill in the Bavarian Forest, in the South-East, where Germany meets Austria and the Czech Republic.
The buildings have since been made habitable (although not finished) and we try to keep up with our fruit trees, berries, nuts shrubs and trees, the grass, the ponds and all the other stuff around here.
Basically, we are relatively self-sufficient, as we have enough trees to have our own firewood (although we mainly heat with pellets), have our own water and sewage and sometimes even grow our own food.
We have a dream: We want to go down the entire Danube on our boat. The boat needs a bit of TLC at the moment. If it fits, perhaps you want to help us there?
Helena is a health scientist and usually doesn't have much time but, Achim, would love some company pottering around, doing odd chores.Types of help and learning opportunities

You will experience German country life, far away from the noise of big cities. If you want, you can learn building skills, how to cook German food, how to cook Indian food, or if you want to learn to fix your own car, I'm sure, Achim will gladly instruct you. We are looking forward to good and interesting talks, and passing on our life experience. If you are a musician, we'd love that, too. Keyboard, guitar, trumpet, flute bongo or djembé players don't even need to bring an instrument. We even have a type of Cajón, but not a good one. If you help us create some spare time, we are more than happy to take you sailing or for a motorboat ride. You can learn how to improve your health, while you're here.
Help
Depending on the time of year, we need help making firewood, sweeping leaves, cutting grass, pruning trees, sweeping the yard (with a machine) and general tasks and cleaning. Perhaps, you want to cook jam if there is fruit or cook for us all?
We have never and do not run a camp ground and we do not expect you to help with other guests, should there be any.
We would also love to host artists who want to leave their mark be e.g. doing a wood carving, painting a mural on a wall or making a sculpture for the garden. Gardeners are also more than welcome, and they can virtually do what they want. If you are into old motorbikes and have fun fixing them, with or without tuition, this is the place - it's one of those things we never seem to get around to.Languages

I'd love to improve my Greek while you're here, but I'm also interested in Italian and perhaps to revive the little French I once learnt.Accommodation
Accommodation will be in a small, neat and clean caravan. In summer, we can also offer a big canvas tent. If it's cold, we can find other solutions.
What else ...
After work, you can go for walks in the forest, which is right behind our house, or you can wet your feet in the creek, have a swim in the nearby lake, relax in the large garden, visit the museum of weaving, sit quietly in the chapel next door or go cycling. If you have a car, there are so many wonderful places to go see from here, like world heritage town Český Krumlov, stopping at lake Lipno on the way. I don't think you'll get bored. We're not far from Passau, Linz and the Danube, either. There are many hiking and cycling trails around here. Three are high gardens and a tree top path for day trips. Even without a car, you can visit 3 counties in 1 day - on foot or by bike! There is a Hindu temple 8 km away, as well.

Yes, we can.
Space for parking camper vans
There is enough room for several campervans here and we'd be stoked if you had your own accommodation.

I learned a lot with them, and enjoyed my stay in the Bavarian coutryside.
The work wasn't hard and changed from day to day. Sometimes a bit longer than the others but still not that much.
The month went by crazy fast, it felt like a week.

I had a great time talking about health and nutrition with Helena, a doctor and naturopath.
She has a caring spirit and a kind demeanor. I had hurt my thumb before arriving and very shortly later she was redressing it and making sure it was ok :) I enjoyed seeing her passion… read more
