    Description

We are a family with two boys, 1 & 3 years old. We’re on a big piece of land that we became kaitiaki (guardians) of nearly 5 years ago. We are co-creating an organic permaculture food forest 🌳 community, and helping the native bush to return. There's always a lot to do in the gardens, and much more... It is a beautiful and quiet valley.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have a lot of knowledge of permaculture we're attempting to put into practice, & prefer to teach constantly about plant propagation and organic food production, not just give you physical tasks ! My partner Rama speaks Hebrew, and I am a Hatha Yoga (& Tantra Massage) teacher currently teaching a Tuesday evening Yoga class during school terms, and privately.

  • Help

    Help

Childcare for our 2 young boys (9 months & 3 years) is our current priority. Gardening help would be great, including managing our food forest 🌳 plantings, and releasing native seedlings from grass overgrowth. We also have chickens, Indian Runner ducks, Muscovy geese, Wiltshire sheep the former need attention up to twice a day). We would love someone who enjoys tidying to sort out our storage/workshop container so everything is really accessible. Those with building skills or other trade experience are always welcome. We are currently engaging professionals to advance our earth-brick house project, and we are enjoying undertaking some of the preparatory steps eg making the low density adobe bricks, which is labour intensive but suitable for people without prior experience to also learn about.

We have a caravan which features our helper’s kitchen, a gas hot water outdoor shower tent, a natural stream swimming hole, compost toilets, two substantial geodesic domes with water supply, a large bus in conversion to accommodation, a camping area for tents or motorhomes, and private tiny home sites with access to untreated stream water for laundry 🧺 and bathing🚿.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This is a major tourist hub, especially for those doing the ‘Te Araroa’ North to South national walkway (we are Trail Angels offering free/koha camping to walkers & cyclists 🚴); and the Tongariro Crossing & the ski ⛷️ field at Whakapapa are one hour away, as are the hot pools at Tokaanu (edge of Lake Taupō). Te Araroa and the starting point for the Whanganui canoe 🛶 trip is one km from us at the start of our road. Taumarunui is also the start of the scenic Forgotten World Highway to Taranaki.

We have good 4G coverage on Skinny or Spark, Vodafone/One is useless & generally not so good for rural areas. More significantly we also have Starlink, & a separate workspace could be set up close to the router if required (completely quiet working would be a condition if this).

This is extremely compatible with our facilities, we have an outdoor gas hot shower tent & composting toilets, & could do a 240v power extension from our off-grid solar.

Potentially. Our 3 year old child is still very afraid of dogs at this point.
