    Description

I live on a waterfront home on a private lake in rural Sudbury, Ontario, and on some of the oldest rock on earth. My vision is to create a home and community space that runs counter to grind culture: a refuge for people who want to slow down, reconnect with nature, and remember what it feels like to live at a human pace.

I'm looking for people who want to be part of creating that, while learning and experience Northern Ontario culture. You'll have the choice of a bunkie by the water - with bedroom, kitchenette, compost toilet, and screened-in porch - or a large private bedroom in the main home where we share a kitchen and laundry.

You'll also have access to an indoor sauna, canoe and kayaks in the summer, snowshoes in the winter, and occasional use of my vehicle with some coordination.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I'm a psychologist, researcher, and thought leader working at the intersection of consciousness, emotion, plant medicines, and healing. My home has a well-curated library spanning philosophy, spirituality, neuroscience, and contemplative traditions - and I love a conversation over a meal. If you're curious about the mind, about what it means to heal, or about where science and spirituality meet, you'll find that territory well-worn here.

The land itself is part of the exchange. We're on the Canadian Shield, Precambrian rock over a billion years old - and spending time on it does something to you (there is rock face IN the house!). Season dependent, I'll take you on walks through the boreal forest, including coordinating a guided medicinal plant walk, we'll forage for wild blueberries and/or a bat walk at dusk. Or to an ice fishing "village" on a nearby lake. At night the sky is genuinely dark - the kind of dark most people have never seen - and the stars are extraordinary.

Living near Sudbury also means access to a vibrant cultural scene. The Franco-Ontarian community here is alive. I'll take you to productions at the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario and Place des Arts, to French Canadian and Indigenous cultural events and landmarks, and to local festivals. Science North is one of the best science museums in the country . If you're learning English or want to practice French, I'm a patient conversation partner, fluent in both, with intermediate Spanish.

I'm in the early stages of shaping this property into an intentional living and healing space, and I'm looking for people who want to be part of that process.

There's light natural landscaping on a wooded lot, gardening, building accessible pathways down to the lake, and various indoor projects to help the space take shape that can be in line with your skills, interests and ideas.

My hope is that this is a place you will want to return to in the future.

You’ll have the bunkie by the water or a spacious private bedroom in the main home with a queen or king bed, your own bathroom, and ample storage. The kitchen, laundry, and pantry are shared and fully stocked; I cover groceries and household basics so you can focus on the experience. Happy to share access to my vehicle with some coordination. Wifi also included in main home.

    What else ...

There is so much to see and do. Access to kayak and canoe, including for fishing, and swimming off the dock. A different festival nearly every weekend of the summer and hiking trails and other lakes galore. Outdoor opportunities all winter too! Vibrant music and arts scene in English and French. Though I live 30 minutes away from town, I am happy to share my vehicle and provide transport and accompaniment to events.
