Description
We have lived in Cheviot for over 25 years and have two children now in their mid-20s. The beautiful dog in the photos recently died - just before her 18th birthday - so no pets at present.
Ange is a journalist, a wedding and end-of -life celebrant, and part-time yoga teacher.
Monty is a farmer and developer with a background in ornithology and geology.
We have many projects on the go from gardening to firewood, to fence staining and food preserving and everything in between. We regularly travel up to the mountains to check traplines for pests that are destroying our unique birdlife.
We are very keen trampers (hikers), ski tourers, mountain bikers and sea kayakers.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have been hosts for many years and enjoy sharing our place with like-minded people.
We are invested in doing our bit to improve our world and love to adventure in our local area and further afield. We are both knowledgeable about NZ's flora and fauna and have worked in conservation, and are actively involved in trapping/pest management at home and in the mountains near us.
We live in the oldest house in our area which is listed with historic places trust. The house is in a public reserve and surrounded by oak trees and natives.
Help
Kia ora koutou.
We've got lots of projects on the go from staining decks, gardening and painting, to general maintenance and apple orchard work.
There is always plenty of variety, and you don't have to be an experienced gardener - just have lots of enthusiasm and energy for the work.
We prefer people to come as a pair as we're not always able to work with you.

Accommodation
You can choose between a king bed inside our gorgeous old house or a double bed in an off-the-grid room in the garden. There is a beautiful bathroom for you to use, plus Wifi and cell phone service.
We would expect you to share in the household tasks while you're here and take your turn cooking an evening meal.
What else ...
We live close to Gore Bay, Hurunui's best surf beach. It's wild and unpopulated and just 6 km down the road.
Our house is set amongst 40 hectares of established trees and a beautiful place to walk and explore. We have a swimming pool to enjoy on hot days or if you like to start the day with a cold water immersion!
We are close to two braided rivers and have an old jet boat we like to use to access the river mouths for fishing and exploring.
There's heaps to do around our area, plus the small town of Cheviot is an easy walk away with a supermarket, cafe, library and museum.
