Description
We are a German family living in the countryside outside Hamburg, in a very green and peaceful area with a big garden. Hamburg city centre is around 40 minutes away by bus.
We have three grown-up children. They no longer live at home, as they are studying abroad or have already finished their studies, but they come home and visit us regularly. We also have a dog, a cat and five chickens, so there are always animals around the house.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can support us with everyday life and especially help Kai. Kai is 58 and has multiple sclerosis, which means that he uses a wheelchair and is limited in his mobility. There is professional assistance as well, so we are not looking for someone to take over medical or nursing care.
Essentially, we are looking for someone who can help Kai with everyday things, such as driving him to and accompanying him to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, cooking and helping with other small tasks when needed. Some experience with assistance would be great and definitely an advantage, but it is not a requirement.
There are also some general tasks around the house and garden. As we have several animals, we would appreciate some help with them as well, such as walking the dog in the nearby forest or letting out and feeding the chickens in the morning.
You would have a comfortable bedroom with your own en-suite bathroom in the main house, giving you enough privacy and your own space.
We already have a lot of experience hosting exchange students through Rotary and really enjoy having people from all over the world stay with us. We would be happy to share our everyday life and German culture with you and also help you explore Hamburg and the surrounding area. If you would like to learn German during your stay, it is also possible to take a language course in Hamburg.
We speak English and French , so speaking German is not necessary.
We are an active and open family, often have friends and family visiting, and are mainly looking for someone friendly, reliable and easy-going who would like to become part of our normal family life and help with the everyday tasks that come along with it. -

What else ...
Our village is in the South of Hamburg (Lower Saxony). Hamburg is situated in the North of Germany and approx. 1.5 hours from Berlin by train. It is the country's biggest port and the second-busiest in Europe.
There is plenty of diversity on offer as it is a beautiful city with plenty of water and parks, lots of museums and cultural opportunities. -
