    Description

I, Andrea, live on the farm on my own. I do not make money with the farm. I have another full time jobb and live on the smal farm with 7 sheep, 2 horses and 2cats.

The farm is a typical old "Torp" with some grazing land, some forest and a little cultivation. I manage the land according to a plan we received for the preservation of older natural pastures. I protect biodiversity and since I am a biologist, it is fun for me to be able to work with it even at home. I work full-time with forest, but many days I work from my computer at home.

The sheep belong to an old landrace and are part of a gene bank. So if you are interested in that, you can have the opportunity to learn a lot. Both theoretically and in daily care, which is not so different from other sheep.

I have also just started riding again and there are now two horses on the farm. The horses also belong to an old robust breed.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I was born in southern Germany and moved here when I was 24. I also lived in Scotland for a short time as a student and worked in the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. During high school I was an exchange student in France and Belgium to practise my French, which I have unfortunately lost a lot. So I can contribute with some of my own experience of travelling and exchanges.

Tiveden is a very special place with a particularly exciting nature. We have a national park and the whole area is popular with tourists. There are a lot of outdoor activities you can engage in.

  • Help

    Help

The tasks can vary greatly depending on what you want to learn or like to help on. And each season and every year we have different projekts witch we focus on. This year we need help with bilding new walls in the barn so manly wood work, painting but as well organize in the barn and stabels.

There is always the day-to-day help with the animals. This includes everything from feeding in the winter to mucking out the stables. To fence maintenance, clearing around the fence. To the maintenance of buildings with painting, carpentry and cleaning and building and remodelling spaces for animals and accessories.

Some years we have a nice big garden with lots of vegetables. But some years we can't do everything and the weeds take over. I have worked for serveral years with vegetable cultivation and also have a university education in gardening. Which means I can teach a lot about this and we could start new fun projects.

If you're interested in cooking, we enjoy new flavours and ideas of what we could cook.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

On the farm there are two small houses. Our own and a guest house with bathroom, kitchen and two bedrooms. So Volonteérs will be staying in the guesthous and have there own kitchen and bathroom with laundry. We decide together when we share the meels it will mostly be the evenings. But not all evenings.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is no public transport, so we have to rely on our car to get to the shops etc. We have bicycles witch you can use during your stay. But you have to be comfortable to live out in the forest without possibillity to get to towns or villages.

The nearest grocery store is 10km, there is also a restaurant, cafe that has pup nights in the summer. In the summer when there are a lot of tourists, there are several cafes and restaurants open. And several places where you can rent everything from canoes, boats, bicycles, etc.
If you like nature, the forest and outdoor life, this is the place for you.
