 - Description- We’re an international family of four, two professionals and two university-aged daughters, living on a peaceful semi-bush property just minutes from stunning beaches, rock pools, and endless hiking and mountain biking trails. Our lifestyle blends outdoor adventure with creativity and hands-on projects, and we’re always working on something new around the house or in the garden.
We love to travel, share stories, and learn from different cultures. Whether it’s planting veggies, building something from scratch, or exploring the coastline, we always have a project (or 10) on the go; we enjoy getting our hands dirty and making the most of our surroundings. Our sweet dog is part of the family and always ready for a cuddle or a game of fetch.
We offer a comfortable twin guest room with a shared bathroom, and we welcome helpers who are friendly, curious, and happy to pitch in. If you enjoy nature, DIY, and good conversation, you’ll feel right at home here.
 - Types of help and learning opportunities- Help with Eco Projects - Gardening - DIY and building projects - Animal Care - Creating/ Cooking family meals - Help around the house - General Maintenance

 - Cultural exchange and learning opportunities- We are of European origins (Swedish and Dutch) but have lived across the world, and in Australia for the last 19 years, so our house culture is quite mixed. We love travelling and meeting new cultures.
 - Help- Workawayers could help out with building, painting, gardening and bush regeneration (such as putting in retaining walls or planting trees), cooking dinner, or other types of chores and DIY things around the house. If you are happy to give it a go, you’re a good fit:-)
We ask for 20 hours of help per week, with the expectation that some of those hours may fall on the weekend, depending on what projects we have on the go. Weekends are often when we tackle bigger tasks or enjoy longer stretches outdoors, so flexibility and a positive attitude are always appreciated. Whether you're experienced or just keen to learn, there's plenty to get involved in—and we’re happy to guide you along the way.

 - Accommodation- We offer a lovely twin guestroom with peaceful views of the back garden and surrounding bushland with a shared bathroom.
We provide your food during your time with us. Most dinners will be shared together when we're home. For other meals, Workawayers are welcome to prepare their own using the ingredients we supply. Our household meals are mostly vegetarian.
 - What else ...- Woonona is located on the coast about 1 hour South of Sydney and is easy to reach by train. Wollongong is the closest city, about a 10-15 minute drive, and there are also frequent buses leaving from the bottom of our road. The area is great for hiking, mountain biking, surfing, swimming, or just relaxing on the beach. There are a number of gyms in Woonona and good cafes and restaurants nearby. We have a couple of bicycles availble for use by the Workawayers.
It would be great if the Workawayers can help out in the weekend, when we do most of our garden/DIY work. We expect the Workawayers to help out to prepare dinner and clean up afterwards (like the rest of the family does) and to keep their personal items in their room.
I often work from home and my office is next to the guestroom, but that shouldn’t cause any issues.

The house is large and beautiful, just like the garden, and I had access to all shared areas of the home.
The surroundings are very peaceful, located next the forest, which makes for a lovely atmosphere. If you're lucky you can see some beautiful birds in the garden!

The house is large and beautiful. We had a comfortable room upstairs and were welcome to use shared spaces like the living room, kitchen, outdoor seating, backyard, and bathrooms.
The town of Woonona itself is a small, cozy beach town with great public transportation to Sydney or Wollongong, and… read more
