Finca is a coffee farm just outside Pereira. We primarily produce coffee, but we also keep some cattle and 3 gorgeous dogs.
The coffee farm is state-of-the-art and we are proud to produce one of the best gourmet coffees in the region. We are always striving to improve conditions for our workers and our process using as many organic procedures as possible to keep our finca as eco-friendly as possible! Tourists regularly visit the finca to learn about the production process and see our beautiful home and farm.
(Please mind we will be able to host new workawayers from January 2019, as I am actually living outside the country)
The farm has a mixture of Spanish and English speakers so there is plenty of opportunity to practise your language skills - there are always members of the Ramirez family around to talk with!
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The volunteer's position requires a maximum of 5 hours per day, Monday-Friday and we ask for a minimum stay of 4 weeks. We like to have couples but only one volunteer is absolutely necessary.
We need a native English speaker to teach English Language to the children of the farm workers. We have a well equipped classroom at the farm and there is also a school nearby where you will sometimes go to teach the local children. The second volunteer (if there is one) can help with the garden, painting, internet and our online marketing if they have experience.
The volunteers' accomodation is a private apartment with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and dining/living space. The bedroom has a television and ample space to store clothes. The shower has hot water and the kitchen window opens out onto a view of the finca's famous coffee fields. The kitchen comes equipped with pans/hob etc. should you wish to cook, but food is provided and served in the hacienda dining room.
We have two people, Idali & Luz, that work in the hacienda and they cook three delicious meals a day for our volunteers. The food we serve here is a mixture of traditional Colombian food and modern global cuisine and, of course, there is always coffee to drink!
The farm is located in the beautiful Pereira countryside (20 minutes from the city centre) and it has excellent transport links to not only Pereira but other famous spots such as Salento, Filandia, Manizales and Armenia which are all less than one hour away on buses.
There are a number of very beautiful towns to visit nearby with lots of opportunities to hike in world-famous locations such as the Cocora Valley and Los Nevados national park. The region is also famous for its hot springs which are popular with tourists all year round. The people of Pereira are incredibly friendly and the region is full of opportunities to experience Colombian life in all its glory.
