    Description

Hi we are Kristin (from Iceland) and Adrian (from UK) we came to Cambodia after many years living in New York City, and we fell in love with the people and place.
We are currently in PHNOM PENH the vibrant capital city working on rebuilding our bakery project after a disaster struck us at our original location (see updates below)

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021 : CAMBODIA IS OPEN FOR (Vaccinated) TOURISTS AGAIN!

We have moved to a new house near Russian Market, Toul Tumpoung. We are more central now and the area has more cute businesses and is kind of the up and coming area of the city.

    UPDATE JANUARY 2021
So we are settled in Phnom Penh and have started another project - as many people stay home and order food delivery we are addressing that with a delivery menu. Unsold items are donated to local charity and all vegetable scraps are sent to another organization that teaches composting to local people. We welcome ideas on how to make our project more of a social enterprise but these are the first steps.
Once a month we join other local businesses in a Farmer's Market. We have our first Cambodian employees in Phnom Penh, Srey Aya who can help teach us all Khmer Language whilst we bake together! We will be taking on more Cambodian staff as time goes on.

    UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2020
    Super Happy!
We have just leased a 3 floor building in PHNOM PENH with room to bake on the ground floor and upstairs we can house volunteers (two private rooms available)
Our location is only 10 minutes from the central hustle and bustle of the City - but our neighborhood feels like a village with a local Pagoda, Market and plenty of trees and lush vegetation around our house.

HISTORY : OTRES BEACH - PARADISE LOST

    UPDATE AUGUST 2020

So after all the other drama of 2019 /2020 our new location on the Beach, on the early morning of June 11th our bakery burnt to the ground.
    Thankfully, everyone survived.
This devastating fire came only 6 months after our original bakery and accommodations were destroyed due to Government reconstruction of Otres Village.
We need help to rebuild from scratch our entire operation and urgently re-hire our Cambodian staff as we have created jobs for several Cambodian families.
We have housed and trained more than 200 international volunteers
We are currently looking for a new HQ here in the capital Phnom Penh where we can start the bakery project again and start our new nutritional meals venture - of course we will need space to house our wonderful Workaway crew!

    UPDATE JAN 2020

After having our home and business demolished as part of a land grab, we have relocated to the beach and are taking over a beach-front resort together with another local business and starting up our bakery again.
We need plenty of help to reconstruct and build up our business! Our dorm beds now have sea view, and breakfast can be taken on sun loungers ocean-side!
We will post new pics soon - a lot of Chinese businesses have already left the area as online gambling was declared illegal in Cambodia at the end of 2019 and our area was a hotbed of such activity.

UPDATE DEC 2019 We have had massive changes here in the last 6 months even, lots of destruction and displacement due to China investment in the area. The recent volunteers have enjoyed their time here but I ask everyone to review the recent news about this place before applying.

    ORIGINAL PROFILE : OTRES VILLAGE
We opened a Bakery project right here in the village, minutes walk away from Otres Beach. In our four years of operation we are happy to have created jobs for 6 Cambodian people.

Our main business is our packaged soft baked cookies that are sold around Cambodia, these are made each morning during the high season by our Cambodian staff. Our Cambodia kitchen crew; Srey Roat, Srey Mach, Srey Yura and YeYe - they come in early in the morning before most of us wake up and are done baking by our breakfast time. Work-a-way volunteers will not be baking these cookies as they are made by our Cambodian staff. The kitchen is full of packaged cookies and our Cambodian manager Mr Sambat arrives and starts to ship out the cookies to our distribution staff, including Cambodian Mr Pach in Siem Reap.

We also have a Cooking / Baking recipe ideas exchange, where if volunteers have particular dishes or items that they want to demonstrate to the others then they are welcome to do so. Perhaps these will be popular items in the future and we would then teach the Cambodian staff how to make!
We also encourage group meals where chefs and food lovers share recipes from their diverse cultures.

If volunteers have cooking / baking skills we are happy to have them join our team and add to our menu! If you want to learn baking skills we will let you practice after the kitchen is finished for the day.
However please be prepared to undertake general maintenance and cleaning tasks. Construction, plumbing, electrician experience always a plus!
We can provide you and teach you to ride a manual motorbike.
Leftover unsold baked items we ask our volunteers to distribute among the local families in the Village, or to our local school, an NGO that we work with. We try to have each volunteer visit the school at least once during their stay.
