    Description

Marcel (Dutch) and Megan (English) recently moved to Cambodia to start a new life on a tropical island. They have just taken over a small resort located within walking distance of Sok San Beach — often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The resort has 15 bungalows surrounded by gardens and sandy paths, and they are currently working on improving and refreshing the property to make it a beautiful and welcoming place for guests.

They would love to invite creative and practical volunteers to help with various projects around the resort. Depending on your skills and interests, this may include:

    - Maintenance and handyman tasks
    - Creating simple furniture or wooden features
    - Decorating spaces, painting murals, and making wooden signs
    - Helping improve the gardens and outdoor areas
    - Other creative improvement projects around the property

If you enjoy working with your hands, being creative, and spending time in a relaxed island environment, this could be a great opportunity to be part of building something special.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our resort is located in the centre of Sok San, a traditional Cambodian fishing village on Koh Rong island. Staying here offers a chance to experience authentic island life while meeting people from many different cultures who live and work on the island.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore the local village, where there are small restaurants, beach bars, guesthouses, and shops run by the local community. It’s a relaxed and friendly environment where visitors can experience daily Cambodian island life.

Koh Rong itself is a beautiful and still relatively untouched island, known for having some of the best beaches in Asia. In your free time you can enjoy snorkelling spots nearby, jungle hiking, bioluminescent plankton at night, and weekly beach parties and festivals on the island.

The island is also home to a lot of wildlife — including monkeys, hornbills, turtles, and coral reefs.

Marcel and Megan come from Dutch and English backgrounds and enjoy meeting people from different countries, sharing experiences of living abroad and building projects on the island, and learning from the ideas and skills that volunteers bring with them.

  • Help

    Help

We are currently renovating and improving the resort step by step, so most of the help will involve practical and creative projects around the property. We enjoy working alongside volunteers and usually work on the projects together as a small team.

Some examples of the type of help we are looking for include:

General maintenance and handyman work around the bungalows
Sanding, painting, and repairing wood or furniture
Creating simple furniture or decorative wooden elements
Painting signs, murals, or other creative decorations
Helping improve the gardens and outdoor spaces
Small building or DIY projects to make the resort more beautiful and functional

Most projects are quite relaxed and hands-on. We especially enjoy working with people who like to be creative, practical, and enjoy building or improving things.

You don’t need to be a professional, but basic DIY skills, creativity, or experience with tools, painting, or building are very helpful. If you have a specific skill (carpentry, art, gardening, design, etc.), we are always happy to include your ideas and create projects together.

    Accommodation

Volunteers will stay in a private air-conditioned bungalow within the resort. Each bungalow has a comfortable double bed, strong WiFi, a private bathroom with hot shower, and basic amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.

The resort is located in the centre of Sok San village, within walking distance of restaurants, beach bars, and small shops.

Meals are provided through a daily food allowance, which volunteers can use at the many local restaurants and cafés in the village. This allows everyone to choose what and where they would like to eat while enjoying the local food scene.

All 3 meals will be provided through a stipend of $10 a day, this will be paid once a week as $70. This is enough here in Sok San Village to buy 3 meals a day. Free water will be provided at all times.

Within walking distance there is jungle hiking, beautiful beaches, swimming in the sea, snorkelling coral reefs, kayaking and paddle boarding. To explore the island, people get around by renting a scooter or by TukTuk. The island has a lot of beautiful places to explore.
