    Description

We are a family of four. Antonio works a ranger, working everyday in nature, and he is a great guide for walks and adventures all over the island. Marta is a biologist, being Nature her uttermost passion, and currently runs her own yoga studio from home. Pablo is 8 and loves to learn new things about science and enjoys also building things with any material he finds around. Alvaro is 5, and is the little sunshine of the house, always joyfully jumping around with some ideas of his own. At the moment, Marta works from home, teaching yoga in a beautiful room overlooking the garden, and would love to start soon organising some workshops and activities for children and adults with shared interests. We have chickens that are now enjoying their new workawayer-built chicken house, and plan to have dogs in the near future.
We would love to make our house a sustainable one: we are already enjoying clean energy from our photovoltaic system and would love to installing a grey-water recycling system. We are not completely independent from the grid but try to use all electrical appliances during the day hours. Our veggie garden is work-in-process at the moment, and looking very promising!

WE WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGY IF WE DO NOT ALWAYS CAN ANSWER E-MAILS. WE ARE GETTING MANY MORE REQUESTS THAN WHAT WE CAN HANDLE. WE WILL TRY TO GET ON TRACK IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.
WE ALSO PREFER LONG-STAYS. WE ARE NOW PRIORITISING WORKAWAYERS THAT CAN SPEND TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN AND SHARE WITH THEM LANGUAGES OR OTHER SKILLS.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a family of four. Our children are 8 and 5. We love getting to know people from other parts of the world, learning about their language, travels, foods, etc.
We live in a lovely place in the midst of nature in the north of the island (820m), not far from the historical city of La Laguna (ca. 6 km), which was Tenerife's first capital, and 3 km from the agricultural town of La Esperanza. You can easily walk to the bus stop from our house. From La Laguna we have easy access to public transport to explore the rest of the island: we are half an hour by car from some beautiful beaches on both the southeast and the north coasts, and there are plenty of paths to explore the forests of the greenest part of the island.
We have lived and travelled in other countries and continents and we love to share our passion for learning and nature.

  • Help

    Help

We recently moved to a dream house in the mountains near La Laguna and there is still a lot to do to make it the special place we envision. We would love help with designing our veggie garden, as well as some chill out spaces around the garden, and assistance with pruning the trees and other farming tasks.
We still have some renovations to make, some of the task are on the creative side like upper floor kitchen design, landscape and garden planning... and others, which are also very important like maintenance, painting, gardening, etc.
Also, we would like to host somebody that shared our enthusiasm at spending time with our children: talking in your home language, playing with LEGO, talking or reading in English , and doing fun things together: cooking, artwork, gardening, playing basketball, going for walks...
We expect our workawayers to be respectful, independent yet communicative, flexible, honest, collaborative, clean and kind. You can expect us to be easy-going, respectful, thoughtful, kind, flexible, honest, communicative, kind.

    Specifically we need help with:
    * wood work to design and install a kitchen (open plan) in the upper floor
    * garden maintenance and tree pruning,
    * organic veggie garden work and maintenance
    * chicken coop feeding and weekly care
    * playing and interacting with our children (languages are welcomed)
    * furniture assembly and repairs
    * wall painting both inside and outside the house
    * tidying up and organising tools and the garage

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our workwayers will be able to enjoy the flat on the upper floor of our house. It is very spacious and luminous, equipped with a large bedroom (with both a single and a queen size beds), an ensuite bathroom, a 30m terrace, and a large living room with a beautiful wooden library, where we plan to build as well an open-plan kitchen, to make it a fully independent apartment. The bathroom is shared with the yoga studio, so it needs to be kept tidy and clean.

You will enjoy the gorgeous views to the mountains and the valley below, as much as the greenery around from our fruit trees and the singing of birds, especially in spring. We cook healthy and hearty food, and we enjoy being able to share local specialities and home made recipes. We cook veggie soups, legumes, cereals, pasta dishes, fish (occasionally some meat) and anything that is good and healthy. We try to get fresh ingredients from local markets, and enjoy having meals together. We can also talk about other food/meal arrangements, as there is everything you would need to cook your own meals upstairs.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are just 1km away from the nearest bus stop, and 10 minutes driving to the nearest city of La Laguna. From the bus station you can connect to anywhere around the island, beaches, towns, attractions, etc. At just 3km you can find the town center of La Esperanza and local shops. We own bicycles that we are happy to lend. If we can make a plan we would love to do some sightseeing with our volunteers, like going hiking, to the beach, or to the National Park to enjoy the volcanic scenery and the view of our highest peak, El Teide, 3.718m. For more info on Tenerife check . Next door to us, our neighbours run a horse-riding center.
