    Description

We (Rose and Tristan and our two kids) live on 6 beautiful acres in the Macedon Ranges, 1 hour north of Melbourne. Our property is home to kangaroos, rabbits, kookaburra, cockatoos and many other birds. We enjoy hiking, camping and being outdoors. During the day we work from home some days and other days in Melbourne. Rose is originally from Canada and Tristan is Australian born and bread. We have both travelled widely and love meeting new people and learning new perspectives about the world.

We offer an opportunity to experience a real Australian country experience, waking up with kangaroos outside your window and eating dinner to the sound of two hundred shrieking cockatoos. There are beautiful hikes and walks in our local area (accessible to those who have their own car) and a calm and peaceful country experience away from the crowds.

  • Help

    Help

We are seeking help with general property maintenance, which includes a lot of raking, stick / debris collecting, wood stacking, pruning, gardening and other similar help. We also would like help with general house maintenance such as cleaning gutters, washing exterior windows, minor repairs and upkeep. We are ideally seeking people who can do help out 5 hours a day, five days out of seven (eg two days off).

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our guest bedroom has a queen bed close to the (shared) main floor bathroom. The room is tucked away in a semi private area of the home. Our shared spaces are a large living dining room with a wood burning fire and a separate TV room. We love cooking and our large kitchen is fully kitted out. If you are travelling in your van we have plenty of space for you to park it.

We will provide continental breakfast options (muesli and toast) for you to make your own breakfasts. You are also welcome to join us for dinner, or make your own. We are happy to cook vegan or vegetarian meals while you are here, and can accommodate most other food preferences (but probably not peanut allergies, are kids eat a lot of peanuts). If you have great cooking skills and would like to share some of your talents we would love to supply ingredients for you to cook dinner for us all some of the time you are here. You will be responsible for your own lunches.

Macedon is accessible by VLine train from Southern Cross Station (1 hr). If you have your own car, you will be able to go for hikes at Macedon Regional Park, stroll some of the incredible gardens on Mount Macedon (such as Forest Glade), see incredible views from nearby Hanging Rock and visit some of the beautiful little towns in our region. If you do not have your own car, you can get here easily from Melbourne on the train and enjoy a peaceful stay at our property with walks on the trails near our home. You can also have the use of two bikes which will enable you to get to and from the train station (which can take you to neighbouring Woodend or into Melbourne) as well as to the local post office and cafe.

    What else ...

We lead pretty busy and full lives and enjoy our time with our kids. We are looking to share dinners with you and get to know you in that way, but we otherwise will expect you to be relatively independent. If you like to spend the morning working up a sweat and the afternoon laying under a beautiful gum tree reading a book, this is the perfect option for you.
