Description
Get in touch with me (Britta) if you are interested in staying here sometime from November onwards. I host for a week or longer and will be happy to talk to you if you think the profile suits you.
I am originally from Germany, live in France (Fillinges) and I work as an English teacher in Geneva. I am now looking for someone to help in the household, with minor DIY and garden work.
Depending on when you are coming, there will be only me, or maybe my daughter Dana (18) with us. She is currently working and planning to leave on a workaway trip. My eldest daughter has left the house to go to university.
Although we haven't had workaways for the last 8 months, we are used to living with a person from abroad (au pair or workaway) and we have always enjoyed the exchange with the additional family member very much. We are still in contact with many of them.
The region here is very international and so is my/our household. International atmosphere and the coming and going is something we cherish.
I also enjoy dancing- particularly Argentine Tango and could teach you the basics.
There are three cats living in this house and garden. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have had someone live with us for more than 17 years with frequent changes involved. So we are very easy going, curious and open minded. We can have dinner together on workdays and you can join me on hikes, excursions to cities or lakes, ski days. I have lived in the region for almost 25 years and can give you good information about where to go. We enjoy local food and are glad to share the recipes. We used to speak German and French at home , but I am also able to communicate in English, Spanish and Russian. As a language teacher I can easily help you with learning French.
Around the dinner table I love discussing any interesting topic such as: learning, education, social interaction (not only in the classroom), travelling, health, languages, psychology, arts, books etc.
I am also willing to share my passion for dance, running and hiking with you. I used to teach dance, so I can easily help you with it, or take you to the right places. -
Help
You will assist in the household in a very light way. No more than 3-4 hours of help every day will be required - sometimes more, sometimes less. There might be some light DIY stuff to do or gardening, but so far nothing is planned. So there will mainly be household tasks like picking up groceries, hanging the laundry, wiping the floor. I usually take it easy and you can organize your work as you like (to some degree): work two complete days and take some days off. It is important that you get time to travel around in this beautiful region.
There are two cars that you can use if you don't come with your own car. I usually cycle to work on nice days.Dana might be around or not, with or without car. Of course it is easier if you come with your own car. There are no direct bus connections (some walking involved to get to the next bus stop). You need a driver's licence, since your taks might involve picking up groceries. Without a driver's licence you are stuck here.
The schedules and tasks will be communicated in advance (with a certain degree of flexibility needed) and organization is always very clear, so that you can plan your free time without major surprises. -

If we get the chance, it will be nice for me to practice my almost forgotten Spanish or Russian. I can help with German, French and English. But there are no requirements as to these exchanges. -
Accommodation
You will have a room in our house with a balcony and Wifi connection. You can use the kitchen, since you live with us and you will share the bathroom, if one of my daughters is home.

What else ...
We live in a small pre-Alp village (Mijouet- Fillinges) not far from Geneva and Annecy. It is a very beautiful and touristic region. In summer tourists come for hiking (it is one hour from Mt. Blanc) and obviously in winter they come for skiing. There are plenty of other workawayers in the region. However, there will always be driving a car involved. So it is really important that you can drive a manual (or automatic) car and that you easily adapt to a new car and region. You could also borrow our electric bike, if needed. You should also like nature. However, you won't miss the city. It is only a 20-30 minutes drive to Geneva.
You can also get into contact with the au pairs and workawayers that have lived with us, to get an idea about the kind of family we are. -

We have a stable Wifi connection. You will have a room with a desk and a bed, but you can also use common rooms, when I am at work.
-
Space for parking camper vans
It is a mountainous region, but we will be able to find a flat spot, that still leaves enough space so I can park and move my car.
-
Can possibly accept pets
If you take care of your animal and there is no additional work or dirt for me implied, I am fine with it and even happy to have a pet around. However I have three cats, and wonder if an additional pet could fit in.
