  • Description

We are Michael and Mary, experienced farmers with a background of organic farming in the UK.
Our Quinta here in the Beiras is an 8 hectare established bio / eco farm, powered entirely on a combination of solar and hydro power. At present we have a loveable pug, chickens for meat and eggs, and a gang of peacocks. Once we have replaced our fencing and created a new pig pen we will be reintroducing pigs and establishing a new goat herd.

We are situated next to the Ecopista do Dao which is a 50 km long bicycle and pedestrian path running between Santa Comba Dao and Viseu so we are in a stunning spot and there are plenty of opportunities for enjoying nature. The Quinta borders the Dao and two beautiful natural swimming spots.

  • Help

We are ideally looking for a capable couple with mixed skills.
Our Quinta was impacted significantly by the wildfire in October of 2017 and primarily we need help with a variety of tasks on the land, including vegetable production, fencing, construction of animal housing, and reconstruction of our small cottage which was lost in the fire. (Our main house was unharmed).
Mary suffers with Parkinson's disease and has difficulty with fine motor skills meaning that she occasionally needs help with tasks which she now finds tricky. More importantly she does not like to be alone in the house, so some companionship during the day whilst Michael is outside working on the land would be invaluable.

    Essential Skills:

General building skills, (roofing, carpentry, fencing, etc)
    Help with growing and harvesting
Animal care - feeding, watering and general!
    Companionship care for Mary
    Cooking of some meals!
    Help around the house
