    Description

    About us and our place:

We are Mak and matze and live in a small community of 7 kids and 9 adults, so it’s a lively and friendly place. We are situated next to a beautiful nature reserve close to Berlin. As a community we are focused on creating a family‑ and children‑friendly home.

Sustainability is an important part of our daily life, and we take a clear stand against all forms of discrimination and group‑based hostility, including racism, sexism, queerphobia and fascism.

Over the past years, we’ve accomplished a lot together. Outside, we made our garden safe for children, planted many fruit trees, built a small playground, and already harvested plenty of vegetables. We’ve celebrated festivals, experimented with different ways of organizing ourselves, and navigated a few crises along the way. And still there is plenty of work waiting for us.

We live close to several lakes and forests, and there is always something new to see or learn here. If you love nature we can give you some tips where to go.

Our home inkluding garden is absolutely smoke free. Smoking is only allowed outside of the property. We practice — and kindly expect from our guests — a responsible and mindful approach to alcohol and other substances.
Please avoid using perfume, scented cosmetics, or other fragranced products before and during your stay.

    Who are we looking for:

We welcome volunteers who enjoy helping with gardening, cooking, cleaning, DIY projects. We value direct and honest communication, and we expect our volunteers to let us know if something isn’t working for them.
    We also appreciate volunteers who
    - are able to take feedback in a constructive way,
    - act responsibly and independently,
    - and can clearly tell us what they can do — and what they cannot or do not feel comfortable doing.

You are very welcome to bring your child or children. We have a good infrastructure for families, including a playground and lots of toys. Dogs are welcome too, as long as they are not aggressive.

Our minimum stay is two weeks but we are open for making exceptions. If you have a skill (for example you are a carpenter) and you want to join us for a short time to complete a concrete project, please ask if it is possible.

If you enjoy nature, community life, hands‑on projects and company of children, you will feel at home with us.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our community is mainly made up of people from Germany, but we speak many different languages and enjoy learning from one another. One member of our group is from Poland and the corresponding child is growing up bilingual, and two of the children have a Spanish background, so you will hear a mix of German, Polish, Spanish, and English in daily life.

We are also a mix of very different personalities and each one of us have various interests to share. There will be many opportunities to exchange ideas about community living, sustainability, children, gardening, and creative projects.

Most of all staying with us will give you a taste of living in a community with its ups and downs. We will let you into our home and you will be a part of our daily life. We can tell you a lot about the challenges of our lifestyle and we would love to share a bit of the joy we take out of it.

    - and many more! tell us what interests you, we have plenty of skills in our group:)

    Accommodation

    Sleeping space:
You will be staying in one of the campers outside. If you prefer, you can also sleep in a tent. From time to time there is a free indoor room available for about a week, so if you feel more comfortable sleeping inside, you can switch when it becomes free.

    Accessibility:
Our living room, toilets, the shower, and the bus where you will stay all require climbing several steps. None of these areas are wheelchair accessible. The bus stop is about 200 m away.
Dinner time can be loud, especially in winter when we eat inside. If you need quiet, you can always retreat to your bus for rest and privacy.
We don’t use perfume or strongly scented cleaning products.
We are a neurodivergent‑friendly household, as some of us are neurodivergent ourselves. We welcome neurodivergent volunteers and appreciate it if you tell us what you need to feel comfortable.
We try to be mindful of different access needs. While our house is not fully physically accessible, we are happy to support volunteers where possible. Feel free to let us know abour your access needs. We will do our best to support you within our possibilities.

    Food:
There is a fridge and a pantry full of delicious vegan and vegetarian ingredients. We try to have dinner together every day at 17:30, but at the moment we don’t always manage to cook daily (once you’re here, you’re very welcome to help change that!). When we do cook, we usually make a bit extra so there’s something for lunch the next day.
For breakfast you can have muesli (we have an abundance of ingredients) or bread. You certainly won’t be hungry at our place as long as you’re happy with vegan food.
If you really feel you need meat, you can buy it at the supermarket in the village, prepare your own meals, and store it in the fridge.
All shared meals are vegan. We can accommodate some allergies, but our kitchen is not suitable for strict separation of foods (for example, “no traces” cannot be guaranteed). If you have allergies please contact us in advance so we can see together whether we can find a good solution.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can relax in our garden, sweat in our sauna or we can play board games together in the evening or watch movies on the projector. If you like to make music we are up for that as well!

Right nearby you’ll find a beautiful nature reserve perfect for hiking, as well as several swimming lakes. We can give you some tips about interesting spots. Two small towns are about 5 km away and can be easily reached by public transport or by bicycle, which you’re welcome to borrow from us. We are also very well connected to Berlin’s public transport network, so the vibrant life of Germany’s largest city — with its many clubs, museums, and countless leisure opportunities — is within easy reach (we are not the right place for people who want to party a lot and come back home drunk).
