Description
Hello travellers and adventure seekers,
I grew up in Germany but have Croatian roots. For the past few years, I’ve been spending my summers in Croatia, slowly building up what I call my “House-Land-Nature Project.” There’s always something to do: tending the garden, cutting firewood, fixing the gravel road, or working on small natural stone projects.
When I first arrived in 2022, the house had been empty for four years. I slept in my T4 camper for the first two weeks because the house wasn’t livable yet. Since then, things have changed a lot: we now have running spring water, two renovated bedrooms, a simple outdoor shower, and a small outdoor kitchen. Nothing fancy, but definitely much more comfortable than in the beginning.
What I enjoy most about this place is how naturally a sense of community develops when more people are around. Everything happens together without planning: cooking outside, watering the garden in the morning, sitting by the fire at night, sharing tools, figuring things out as a group. Everyone contributes a bit, and somehow it all works out. It’s simple, but it feels good.
At night, the sky is incredible. You can see the Milky Way clearly, and sometimes you hear wolves howling in the distance. They don’t come to the house, but you definitely feel how wild the area is.
There are a few fruit trees, some vegetable beds, and about 50 grapevines on the land. Down by the river, there’s another piece of property where more fruit or wine could be planted in the future. If someone wants to bring ideas, help with planting, or work on the land together, that’s always welcome.
The “neighbourhood” here consists of a few shepherds who live several kilometres away. They’re calm, friendly people, and if you want, you can visit them and even help with the sheep.
The house is located between Knin and Gračac in the Velebit Nature Park. You drive part of the way on a gravel road, and without a car it becomes difficult quickly. It’s very remote — perfect if you enjoy nature, peaceful surroundings, and simple living with a small sense of community.
My goal for 2026 is to finish the tiny house on the property. Feel like joining in?
