    Description

Hi, I'm Dee-Ann, the mummy and wife to these beautiful people you see in the photos above :)

When I was 19 and living at home in Hampshire in the UK, I wanted to travel and work abroad before starting university to become a Primary School Teacher. At 19 yars old I left home alone and spent several years working and travelling, first in the French Alps in a nursery at a ski resort, then a summer season in Turkey teaching sailing. After that, I worked on cruise ships and later lived in London as a live-in nanny.

I eventually moved to Norway to work as a nanny, where I met my Norwegian husband. That’s where the travelling slowed down and we built a life together. Today, we have a family and a home, still love to travel, but those early experiences have stayed with me.

Hosting through Workaway feels like a way of giving something back. I know firsthand how important these opportunities can be when you’re young, travelling, and finding your way. We’d love to offer someone a safe place to stay and at the same time a sense of support, safety, and experience that meant so much to me back then. Also to show this wonderful country I live in now and the beauty of it and why I fell in love with Norway.

We are a family of four living in a comfortable home in a quiet, nature-filled area. I’m British and my husband is Norwegian. We both work office jobs with some home office during the week.

We speak English in the home as a family so if your looking to practice your English this would be a great opportunity.
We can all speak Norwegian also so this is another language available.

We enjoy spending time outdoors and often go to the mountains to ski and have nature walks at least every weekend, and you would be welcome to join us when it fits.

You will have your own private bedroom and bathroom with shower. We value reliability, initiative, and clear communication, and we aim for a fair, respectful exchange where everyone knows what to expect.

Workawayers are welcome to be part of our everyday family life. This includes shared meals (if wanted) You can alwase dine alone if this is a wish), walks in the local area, and spending time together at home. We often go on trips to the mountains and enjoy outdoor activities, and you’re welcome to join when it fits. Our children have local activities, and you’ll naturally get some insight into family and community life in Norway.
English as our spoken home language - so lots of practice. Norwegian too if that is a wish. We can share insight into everyday life in Norway, including work–life balance, family routines, and how things work in a Norwegian community. As a British–Norwegian household, we also offer exposure to two cultures and languages in one home.
By hosting people from different cultures, we hope to learn about other ways of living, family life, food, and traditions. We value cultural exchange, open conversations, and learning from different perspectives. We hope our children benefit from meeting people from different backgrounds and that Workawayers feel welcome, respected, and included during their stay.

    Help we need

We are a family living just outside Oslo and are looking for someone who enjoys being part of everyday family life and helping out lightly around the home.

The help is mainly general household support, such as:

Light cleaning and tidying of shared areas

Helping with laundry and keeping the home organised

Occasionally organising cupboards or shared spaces

Helping with simple food preparation and everyday routines

We have two young children, so it’s important that you feel comfortable in a family home and enjoy a lively but calm environment. We are not looking for childcare, but rather someone who enjoys sharing daily life with us.

In return, we offer a private bedroom and bathroom, shared meals, and inclusion in family life when it fits naturally. We’re happy to share local life in Norway, nature experiences, and tips for exploring Oslo and the surrounding area.

You will have your own private bedroom and a private bathroom with shower in our home. The room is clean, comfortable, and secure, with proper heating and storage space. We make sure Workawayers have a safe and pleasant place to stay and respect everyone’s need for privacy.

Food is included. We usually eat together in the evenings and then our daughter has sports from 5-7 Monday till Friday. Ballet, gymnastics and ski training. We would appreciate help with cooking or food preparation during the week. You are also welcome to prepare your own meals, and we’ll make sure there is space for you to store food in the kitchen. Tea, coffee, and basic household food items are always available.

You’ll be staying in a family home with two young children, so the house is lively, but we value calm evenings and a respectful atmosphere.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in a quiet, family-friendly area close to nature, with great opportunities for walks, hikes, and mountain trips. Public transport is available nearby, and it’s easy to get around on foot or by bus. We’re happy to share tips for things to do in your free time.

This is it is a little local village literally 2 mins walk from our house.

Here’s what I love about living here: we’re about 40 minutes by bus from central Oslo, so all the sights and city life are easy to reach, but at home it feels peaceful and outdoorsy. There are beautiful walking, biking, and skiing trails literally right outside the door. It’s also a 3 minute walk to Bærums Verk, a really cute cultural village with craft shops and cozy cafes. Close by you’ll find both a lake and a beach by the sea for swimming.

In winter we’re usually out cross country skiing, downhill skiing, ice skating all within walking distance from the house.
In summer we have bikes you can borrow to explore.

Our home is a relaxed family household with a weekday routine around work and school. We appreciate everyone helping to keep shared spaces tidy and comfortable. We don’t allow smoking in or around the house.

We value open communication and a friendly, respectful atmosphere, and we hope Workawayers feel at home while staying with us.
