Experience in General maintenance and gardening is sought.

Large plot with small edible garden, fruit trees and indigenous plants.
    +++++++++++++

I enjoy living whole and simple, and making the most of my little piece of land in Sandbaai.

Eating well, from my garden and being connected with nature and my friends and family are central to my peaceful existence, close to Hermanus.

I love working around the house and in the garden, upgrading and beautifying my surroundings and spending time with my gorgeous German shorthaired pointer, Java.

I am looking to share and work on my project with handy, like-minded people who take pleasure in the simple things in life.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

My interest would be mainly in sharing experience, knowledge and good food.
I travelled widely from my 20s -40s, and enjoy the colour it has brough to my life. Food is one of my passions, and one that I've loved learning about from different cultures and sharing with others.

My house is walking distance from Sandbaai beach and stunning coastal paths. If you want company, you will always have an ecstatic doggy companion in the form of Java - my German shorthaired pointer.

For those who are more socially inclined, the nearby town of Hermanus has a vivid art & culture scene with many opportunities in the form of local markets, restaurants, galleries, concerts and other social activities.

    Help

I would mainly be looking for someone to help with general maintenance around the house and in the garden.

I have a little veggie garden at the back of my house (pictured) that currently provides me with ample herbs.

Compositing, vermiculture companion planting and other organic principles are what I am about. I would love to share my knowledge in this field and learn more from experienced gardeners.

Help with growing more seasonal vegetables would be welcome.

The soil in this area is very sandy, which poses challenges. I have a large erf with indigenous trees and flowers, olive trees and young fruit trees that demands attention!

    Accommodation

A private room with an en-suite bathroom and shower is at your disposal. The room is separate from the house with a private covered outside seating area, and it includes a mini fridge and a kettle.
It is secure and has lockable doors and windows.

One shared cooked meal and provisions for other meals, on working days are included.
Please provide for yourselves on weekend/off days.

I eat whole food, including meat and fish, but am open to shared vegetarian/vegan cooking experiences.

I can work around some special dietary requirements with what I have, however I don't provide any additional processed (gluten-free) foods or soy products like tofu and tempeh - which are pricey and not a part of my diet.

You are welcome to use my kitchen and eat from the veggies and herbs that are in my fridge or garden.

Cooking and cleaning up after ourselves are not considered as part of the 4-5 hour work day.

Your own transport is recommended/rent a car if you want to visit the surrounding area or see the Cape in your free time. I only have one car, and am happy to give you a lift to the shops when I go, but otherwise, you will need to make your own arrangements.

Public transport is not safe/reliable. Uber/taxi can be expensive.

I would recommend you rent a car for freedom/ flexibility.

As much as I enjoy being social and working together, I also appreciate my privacy and doing things on my own.
I am looking for couples who are happy co-living in the peace and birdsong this space provides.

If I have guests/ family over I may ask that we postpone work or arrange a different plan for meals, but the kitchen will remain a common area that you are welcome to share at any time.
Unless otherwise arranged, I will ask that you provide your own food for yourself over the weekends.

Having said that, learning new recipes and shared cooking experience and often a highlight in my kitchen.

I would mostly prefer to work around the house in the mornings, but I am relatively flexible with how we plan our work periods. You will have a quiet comfortable space to work if you need it.
