Description
We are a family of three living in a spacious home with a large garden, just about 25 minutes from Zurich (easily reached by S-Bahn), with a beautiful view of the mountains. We share our home with eight Silkie chickens and two lovely cats.
Our flock includes six Silkie hens and two Silkie roosters. On nice days they enjoy being outside and usually return to their coop by themselves at dusk – all that’s needed is to close the door in the evening. They are not cuddly pets, but they do appreciate consistent care with fresh water and food every day.
Our cats, Maebh and Jacky, love giving and receiving cuddles – although Jacky needs a bit of time to build trust. They are fed twice a day and appreciate a caring “door concierge” who lets them in and out. At night, they stay safely inside the house.
We value a warm, respectful atmosphere and are happy to welcome people who enjoy animals, nature, and being part of a family setting.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying with us offers the chance to experience everyday life in Switzerland in a very independent way. Our home is located close to nature, yet only about 25 minutes from Zurich, giving Workawayers the opportunity to enjoy both rural surroundings and city life.
We will meet our helpers at the beginning of their stay to hand over everything personally and explain all tasks in detail. During the stay, we will usually be away, so Workawayers experience a high level of trust and responsibility while taking care of our home and animals.
This creates a special kind of cultural exchange: learning about Swiss life through independence, responsibility, and living in a quiet residential area, while still being well connected to public transport, local communities, and nearby nature spots. We stay in touch during the stay and are always available if questions come up.
Help
We are mainly looking for support with caring for our animals and helping with small tasks around the house. This includes feeding and looking after our Silkie chickens, as well as helping with our cats – feeding them, letting them in and out, and keeping them company. From time to time, light gardening or small everyday tasks may also be part of the help. As we will usually be away on holiday during the Workaway stay, it is especially important to us that our helpers are independent, reliable, and responsible, and take good care of the house and animals.

Languages
Languages spoken
German: Fluent
English: IntermediateThis host offers a language exchange
My English is not fluent, but I’m happy to communicate and improve along the way. We enjoy simple, relaxed conversations and are open to a friendly language exchange – especially with Workawayers who are also interested in learning or practicing German.
Accommodation
Workawayers will stay in a private room with a double bed (formerly our adult daughter’s room). The room has direct access to the garden and a small outdoor seating area, offering a quiet and comfortable place to relax.
They will also have their own private bathroom with shower and toilet. Built-in wardrobes provide plenty of storage space, and Wi-Fi is available
What else ...
As our home is located in a quiet residential area close to nature, we kindly ask our Workawayers to respect the neighbours and keep noise to a minimum, especially in the evenings.
Public transport is easily accessible, making it simple to explore Zurich, nearby towns, lakes, and hiking areas in your free time. We are happy to share recommendations for walks, day trips, and local highlights.
Since you will be staying in our home while we are away, we really appreciate people who are responsible, tidy, and respectful of the space, the animals, and the house rules. Clear communication and reliability are very important to us.

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
We have reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet environment that can work well for digital nomads. As most of the daily tasks are in the morning and evening, there is plenty of uninterrupted time during the day for remote work. Since we are usually away during the stay, we especially appreciate digital nomads who are independent, responsible, and comfortable managing their time between work and caring for our home and animals.

Space for parking camper vans
Our house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, and we have a private parking space right in front of the entrance. There is enough room for a small to medium-sized motorhome or a travel van (standard size). The area is calm and safe, making it a comfortable place to stay for campers.
