    Description

We are a little family (men, woman, child, cat), that does parttime homesteading with vegan-organic permaculture on 2 ha in the Swiss Jura Mountains. We homeschool our child.
We live outside of the village in a more than 200 year old house with a beautiful, big, big linden tree to sit under. The view goes to meadows, forest and the mountain Moron.
We heat with wood and since 2020 we have solar panels.

SADLY, BECAUSE OF ALL THAT CONSTANTLY CHANGEING COVID-19 LAWS OF SWITZERLAND WE DO NOT TAKE PEOPLE, WHO ARE NOT ALREADY IN SWITZERLAND. WE NEED TO KNOW IF ONE CAN CAME OR NOT AND WITH THE SWISS GOVERNEMENT AT THIS MOMENT YOU NEVER KNOW, WHICH PART THEY SET ON QUARANTAIN...

We love to show interested people how and why we live a vegan-and-otherwise-ecologically life and homeschool.
As we live since 1996 vegan-and-otherwise-much-ethical, we know a lot about it. W. is also a veg* in the 3 generation. We were active in the Swiss vegetarian movement, before there was a separate vegan movement here. Now -totally in the pampa without car- our activism is more in showing people that a vegan-and-otherwise-ecologically lifestyle is possible and it is not a big thing...

    M. knows quiet a lot about vegan nutrition, herbals, homeschooling.

We have a big, little library about veg*ism, cooking, (vegan-organic) gardening/permaculture, homeschooling and Dutch literature (mostly German, English, Dutch, but also some in French, Italian).

We will cook together, so you will perhaps learn some vegan cooking tricks and how to make vegan Müesli or vegan AelplerInnenmaccaroni... Or W. will make with you a Rösti or Dutch poffertjes.

if you are interested in Dutch, we can teach you the bare minimum of it.

    Help

In spring the work would be help in the garden, planting potatoes with the mulching method. In summer and autumn rake mulch(= hay for garden use) and harvesting. As the summers are now even here in the mountains "hot"(= more than 2 days between 30-32°C), we work in the summer very early and then rest until the evening. In winter we will see what kind of work is upcoming.
During the year there is the need for help in cutting wood (with secure machine) in little pieces.
On some days it would just nice, if you would play with our child (2012). Also are we trying to renovate the house vegan-and-otherwise ecologically. That can also mean that you simply wash an very old door, we have found on the roof or such stuff.

We expect that you also help with cooking and making the dishwashing (no machine).

You do not need any knowledge, we will you show everything.

Should your religion teach you, to not work on specials days, we like to know that before, so we can arrange it. As Werner is working mo-th from home, we do more of the "heavy" work fr-so. Anyway, as you can see below, we have the best bus connection mo-fr...

    Accommodation

You will have your own room with a door. In summer you just open the window and you will have enough warm.

In spring/autumn/winter the room is not so warm as you may be used, if you live in house with an oil stove. It is better for sleeping good, but when it snows, you will probably prefer to sit with us all in the living room with the wood stove...(In the 1970ies they "destroy renovated" our house, so we can at the moment not so much heat up every room).

The shower is in the corridor, it has hot and cold water.

We cook vegan-organic-local-saisonal and whole grains/rice, but somehow still typically Swiss Style... Not much fastfood. Our international guests love our food - if they are openminded to a veganlifestyle. (And if you like raw food, we can make it happen, but without bananas, avocados and such fresh vegetables from far away)
We do not use drugs (apart from some vegan-organic-fair-trade chocolate and sometimes to much films): no alcool, no smoking, no coffee...

We expect, that you will not bring non-vegan food or drugs and also not consume it while with us.

Smoking is only aloud at a special place outside.

Should you wish to go to a religious service, please let us know longtime before, so we can try to find out, if there is a possibility. We live in a region with quiet a lot different religions, but we have not good bus connection, so we have to try arrange it otherwise...

  • What else ...

    What else ...

From Mo-Fr there is a bus that stopps direct before our ground. In the summer (april-octobre) there is a sunday bus until the neighbour village, that means 30 min walking up the mountain. On saturdays we do not have anymore busses. A Taxi costs 50 Swiss Francs!

Nearby is a reformed church, that is famous for their celtic roots and then their is a rock crevice, where the persecuted mennonite held church service (the mennonite do not go to military, wish a secular state and do not swear to a State. They believe good is everywhere, so no need for churches). There is a "reformed lucky-walking path" in french.
There are beautiful little valleys, where just is nature and maybe some cows/horses. We even have lynx (but you will most probably not see one)...
There is one of the last bogs of Switzerland 10 min away with the bus.

You can also just sit under our big linden tree or under our little nuttree and read something (from your own or from our books).

We like also playing some board games together...
