Description
Hi, I’m Charlotte!
I’m half French, half Irish so I speak French and English fluently (and a fair amount of Thai). I love the jungle life, the ocean and living a comfortable but simple life. I'm interested in decoration, architecture, gardening and many other things but I barely have time for hobbies because of how busy I am with the children, animals, garden and rentals!
We have lived in Ko Lanta for seventeen years. We are in Klong Nin, which is perfectly located halfway down the West coast, making it the best spot to get to the Southern beaches and to cross to the East coast. We are 10mn walking distance from the beach on a piece of beautiful unspoiled land in the jungle.
I have two children; my son Alex is 21 years old and currently lives abroad and my daughter Indie is 11 years old and is here with me . They are both half Thai and were born and raised here in Thailand. They are outgoing and friendly!
We have 3 cats and 3 dogs, all adorable. There are 4 houses, 3 of which we normally rent throughout the high season and sometimes in low season too.
I'm alone with my daughter and after an exhausting season, I really need help with garden upkeep, house maintenace and small repairs .
I'm only putting one small house for volunteers this season so it won't be big groups as usual, or big projects but more for a couple of friends (up to three), or a couple.
I'll be open for voluhteers from mid May until September and hope to meet you soon!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
If it is green season, everyone is very laid back and relaxed, you get to see the real local life! And despite some rainy spells, Nature is at it's best and everything is green and full of flowers. Sunsets are amazing in low season too. The waterfall has water!!! The roads are quiet, no more crazy minivans, diving shop trucks and tourists all over the place! To sum it up, low season allows you to have a much more "authentic" experience of the local life in Ko Lanta. If it's still high season , you get to experience a crystal clear ocean, very dry hot weather and plenty of people on the island . It's great fun too!

Help
A couple or 2 friends is the best as the rooms have double beds only. I do have an extra single bed too. I prefer to host at least two people who are traveling together, or independent travelers who are fine with sharing a bedroom, as much as I am a sociable person, I do get busy with other things too and don't want people to get lonely!. If you are happy with your own company (and my daughter's sometimes ) and generally enjoy being free and independent, then, of course you can come as a solo traveler too.
You must be ok with getting quite dirty and sweaty on most jobs (I have a load of "work "clothes !
Here is a list of what we might need, we don't expect anybody to be able to do all of these things, just a few would come in handy already!
- Raking the leaves, gathering dead branches, pulling weeds, trimming plants and planting/watering
- Jobs such as sandpapering, varnishing and painting (shutters, furniture, etc..)
- Small building jobs such as putting up shelves or decorations
- If you are ready to drive the pick-up truck, maybe some help with the shopping or Indie's playdates
- Feeding the animals (we have 3 cats and 3 dogs, all lovely!)
- If anybody is actually able to do a bit of building (woodwork, cement or tiling), I can always find things to do!!!
I’m happy with four hours work per day , five days a week. The minimum stay is for 2 weeks. All in all, I'm desperate for help, flexible and ready to adapt to alternative solutions, more hours work a day and then more days off, a stay of a couple of months or more, etc.

Accommodation
Our place, and the island, are very quiet in green season, much busier in high season . As far as the accommodation goes, it's properly comfortable because it is either the house that I stay in during high season while renting. out, or another bungalow that I rent out in high season.. There are kitchens, filtered drinking water, a fridge, comfy beds, a nice little bathroom with hot water and good wifi! . You won’t have to share a house with us, it's about 25 meters from our house. I just ask that the living space is kept nice and clean as a part of the daily routine as we are in the tropics and in green season, nature is alive!.

What else ...
Our neighborhood and land are very green so you can take great walks in nature. Our dogs would love to join if you're happy with that. They love chasing monkeys! The beach is a 10 mn walk from ours, actually there are 2 beaches and the closest is tiny and beautiful too. There are still restaurants and bars open as well as all the local shops. In the mornings, between 6 and 9 am, there is varied, delicious and very cheap street food that you can buy for the rest of the day, We have 2 local fresh markets in our village with fruit, veggie and fish and everything is cheap and plentiful. There is also a small Lotus, a Mother Marche and a 7/11 down the road. All is within walking distance. If you take a ride on the scooter, we are close to the beautiful beaches in the South and to the East coast and Old Town.
