    Description

Hi, I’m Charlotte! I’m half French, half Irish so I speak French and English fluently (and a fair amount of Thai). I love the jungle life, the ocean and living a comfortable but simple life. I'm interested in decoration, architecture and many other things but I barely have time for hobbies because of how busy I am with the children, animals, garden and rentals!

We have lived in Ko Lanta for fourteen years. We are in Klong Nin, which is perfectly located halfway down the West coast, making it the best spot to get to the Southern beaches and to cross to the East coast. We are 10mn walking distance from the beach on a piece of beautiful unspoiled land in the jungle.

I have two children; my son Alex is 18 years old and has just moved abroad, my daughter Indie is 8 years old and still lives here with me . They are both half Thai and were born and raised here in Thailand. They are outgoing and friendly!

We have 8 cats and three dogs, all adorable. We have 3 houses which we normally rent throughout the high season and sometimes in low season too.

But this year 2023/24, after 2 years of covid and its restrictions, and then a very short high season in 2023, it's time for me to renovate the houses. Two houses are nearly done (though it's never really done done !) and there is still one to go.

Therefore, I will not put the houses up for rent this year so that I can complete the works and sell one of the houses.
I'm currently alone with my daughter and struggling to stay on top of all the things to do. .

Ideally, I would need another couple of volunteers to help me with small renovations and upkeeping the garden.

It will be my first high season without renters in 12 years, thus allowing me to take volunteers at the nicest moment of the year. We started the volunteering experience in 2017 and it has been such a wonderful experience !

If it is green season, everyone is very laid back and relaxed, you get to see the real local life! And despite some rainy spells, Nature is at it's best and everything is green and full of flowers. Sunsets are amazing in low season too. The waterfall has water!!! The roads are quiet, no more crazy minivans, diving shop trucks and tourists all over the place! To sum it up, low season allows you to have a much more "authentic" experience of the local life in Ko Lanta. If it's still high season , you get to experience a crystal clear ocean, very dry hot weather and plenty of people on the island . It's great fun too!

A couple or 2 friends is the best as the rooms have double beds only. I do have an extra single bed too. I prefer to host at least two people who are traveling together, or independent travelers who are fine with sharing a bedroom, as much as I am a sociable person, I do get busy with other things too. If you are happy with your own company (and my daughter's sometimes ) and generally enjoy being free and independent, then, of course you can come as a solo traveler too.

You must be ok with getting quite dirty and sweaty on most jobs (I have a load of "work "clothes ! Unless you are more into tutoring my daughter Indie but you might just end up in the same state anyway !!!

Here is a list of what we might need, we don't expect anybody to be able to do all of these things, just a few would come in handy already!
    - Teaching my 8-year-old 3 hours in the morning and/or being the one who takes her out in the afternoons or has
activities on the land such as sports, yoga or art projects.
    - Raking the leaves, gathering dead branches, pulling weeds, trimming plants and planting/watering
    - Jobs such as sandpapering, varnishing and painting (shutters, furniture, etc..)
    - Small building jobs such as putting up shelves or decorations
    - If you are ready to drive the pick-up truck, maybe some help with the shopping or Indie's playdates
    - Feeding the animals (we have 8 cats and three dogs, all lovely!)
    - If anybody is actually able to do a bit of building (woodwork, cement or tiling), I can find things to do!!!

I’m happy with four hours work per day , five days a week. The minimum stay is for 2 weeks. All in all, I'm desperate for help, flexible and ready to adapt to alternative solutions, more hours work a day and then more days off, maybe "bigger jobs" but with free food included (that you cook!), a stay of a couple of months or more, etc.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our place, and the island, are very quiet in green season, much busier in high season . As far as the accommodation goes, it's properly comfortable because it is the houses that I normally rent out. with cooking facilities, filtered drinking water, a fridge, a comfy bed, a nice little bathroom with hot water and good wifi! . You won’t have to share a house with us, it's about 25 meters from our house. Having said that, because it is the only thing I have had a slight struggle with sometimes , I really need my guests to understand that upkeeping the living space and keeping it top notch is a part of the daily routine as they are the houses that I will be selling.

    What else ...

Our neighborhood and land are very green so you can take great walks in nature. Our dogs would love to join if you're happy with that. They love chasing monkeys! The beach is a 10 mn walk from ours, actually there are 2 beaches and the closest is tiny and beautiful too. There are still restaurants and bars open as well as all the local shops. In the mornings, between 6 and 9 am, there is varied, delicious and very cheap street food that you can buy for the rest of the day, We have 2 local fresh markets in our village with fruit, veggie and fish and everything is cheap and plentiful. There is also a small Tesco and a 7/11 down the road. All is within walking distance. If you take a ride on the scooter, we are close to the beautiful beaches in the South and to the East coast and Old Town.
