  Description

  Hello! My name is Benjamin (36) and my daughter is Sultana Gail (4).
  
  We live between our apartment in Halifax and at our country home outside of the city in Nova Scotia, Canada (and sometimes at our hobby farm in Portland, Ontario). Halifax has great food, shopping, shows and events throughout the year. The country house is in a small village by the ocean. The hobby farm has a farm house, tiny house-on-wheels, greenhouses, a chicken coop, and we're working on an orchard!
  
  Sultana is very active and talkative; she loves to color and play with rocks at the beach. There are other kids at the hobby farm.
  
  I like to read and write, listen to/play music, and cook.
  
  We like to go camping and recently got a small camp trailer for our adventures.
  
  I work in design and construction... always lots of projects on the go.

  We speak English and French and are learning Spanish!
  
  We've travelled to several continents and enjoy learning and sharing with different cultures.
  
  Many in our community are recent immigrants to Canada, from Europe, India, Asia, the Middle East...
  
  Halifax is a vibrant, albeit small, city... it's the hub of Mi'kma'ki and Atlantic Canada more broadly... it has many industries (tourism, education, manufacturing, shipbuilding, transportation, arts/culture, government (provincial, federal), etc.) and is bursting at the seams at the moment. There's not enough housing and we don't have the right infrastructure for a city our size (and growing). But it's bustling, in a slow and steady kind of way... good food and entertainment.
  
  Portland, Ontario is in cottage country (Rideau Lakes Municipality) and about 1.25 hrs from Ottawa.
  
  Nature is everywhere... lots of lakes, forests, beaches, trails, and rivers... it's rarely too hot... sometimes too cold.
  
  We know design and construction, architecture, mechanics... and more broad science and technology... I think outer space is fascinating. Also study politics, anthropology, and art.
  
  We know about music and could give lessons in instruments (guitar, piano, trumpet) or vocals.
  
  We like keeping up to date and talking about current events. I enjoy tv and film.
  
  We're outdoorsy and we’d be happy to have you join us in camping and/or hiking, which we regularly do with friends.
  
  My "day job" is managing a building engineering and restoration company, partly working from home and partly on project sites. We work on projects all over the province, so there may be opportunities to travel with me (with and without Sultana).
  
  I’m also immersed in the paradigm of parenthood… and all the wonderful parts of meeting and sharing in the experience with other parents and kids. Sultana has a regular daycare here in the the city.

  Help

  Primarily, I’m looking for help with day-to-day activities - just another set of hands to run errands, cook, clean, and help look after the kids. We enjoying doing all of these things, but with demanding jobs and looking after the children, it can be a lot for just us. We keep a clean and tidy house, and eat good food. We stay active and are engaged with our community.
  
  We also have some projects going on - gardening, farming, construction, diy... some digital projects, some art projects...
  
  Also, there are some writing and design-type computer work that I always need help with; scanning documents, transcribing video/audio, organizing files/notes, corresponding with project team members, etc.

  Can teach English and French… could teach basic Spanish and would also love to learn from a more experienced Spanish speaker. Would also love to learn Arabic or Hindi or another Asian language.

  Accommodation

  We split our time between a 1100sf three-bedroom apartment in the city and our small house 30-minutes outside the city. We do have a big black cat named Bailey who lives at the house. We also help operate a small hobby farm in Smiths Falls, Ontario.
  
  All you need in terms of bedding, towels, etc. can be provided. The place is clean, safe and secure.
  
  Food and cooking supplies will be provided. We typically share in making meals and cleaning, but this is flexible based on interest/ability.

  Parking at all locations, if you have your own vehicle. Lots of public transit a block away in Halifax. No public transit in the village or in Portland, ON.
