    Description

Our Farm is seven acres of woodlands and gardens on a little island in the Salish Sea, a ferry ride away from Seattle. We are dedicated to a culture of gratitude for the abundance that we enjoy which includes homegrown fruit, vegetables, meat, goat milk and cheese, and fresh eggs from free-running hens. Most of what we sustain ourselves with is what we have tended with our hearts and hands alongside our friendly pup Pippin.

We are home to a place-based primary school in its 14th year. The school is rooted in emotional literacy, environmental awareness, and social justice. Living and learning in a community here means eating kale all winter, preserving a lot of fruits and vegetables, pulling out invasives and planting native plants, milking goats, fires on the beach, listening to the owls in our woods at night, spying frogs in the pond, recycling and salvaging religiously, using composting toilets, keeping warm by the woodstove, rising with the sun and the chickens, lots of laughing and breaking bread together.

    What else ...

We are surrounded by water and sometimes orcas circumnavigate Vashon Island. The beaches are full of the wonders of nearshore ecology. Birders and cyclists abound. We have kayaks and bicycles available for use. The island has many amazing trails for hiking and a small town with cafes serving up fair trade coffee and plenty of live music. You must walk or drive onto one of the three ferries to get to the island.
