    Description

Hi, we are a family of 5 (soon to be 6) living on the beautiful Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland.
We (Anja and Mirko) are originally from Germany and moved to Ireland last year with our three boys and two dogs. We have since adopted a cat and will soon welcome our 4th child into our family. I, Anja, am a midwive and Mirko works as a carpenter in the area.
You would join our busy family in our beautiful family home on the hill side of the Caha Mountains. From our house we are overlooking the wild Bantry Bay and the Sheeps Head Peninsula.
You would have your own bedroom and ensuite bathroom. As you can imagine with four kids (from baby to 7 years of age) we would need a bit of help for the daily tasks with our family and around the house. This would include some gardening and house work, looking after or playing with the children, cooking meals and maybe taking the dogs for a walk. There is a beach in walking distance. We are speaking English and German at home.
Bantry Bay offers a number of outdoor activities such as Kayaking with the seals in Adrigole Harbour or the popular hill walking on Hungry Hill and Sugar Loaf. The closest towns are Castletownbere, one of the biggest fishery towns in Ireland, where you can find a lively local scene especially on the weekends as well as the known McCarthys Pub, there are a number of lovely cafes in town, a library, book shop and a gym.
We have a well known Buddhist Retreat Centre and Temple in the area for your quiet days off if you like or you can take the public transport to visit Bantry town where you can find shops, coffee shops, shopping, a swimming pool and a cinema.
We are looking froward to welcoming you into our home and share the beautiful Irish culture and landscape with you!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are German originally, speaking German and English at home. As mentioned there are social activities such as cinemas, pubs, caffees and a library easily accessible. We love to learn about different cultures and love to share the Irish culture within a beautiful rural setting.
We have a variety of things you can learn from us. Since we are expecting our fourth child—and Anja is a midwife—you are welcome to learn about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care. We also have plenty of gardening work to do; we’re happy to share what we know, and we’d love to learn from you as well. Mirko is a carpenter and artist, so if you enjoy working with different materials, you’re welcome to explore your creativity in our workshop. Our very active boys are always happy for a change of pace, and you’re welcome to join them for games, fun, and outdoor activities.
We will try our best to gear the work around what your talents are and what you enjoy doing most.
We aim do our best to offer advice and support in making the most of local tourist activities and sights whilst your with us.

We could also use some help in the garden and with DIY projects. Assistance around the house is also very welcome. Naturally, you are free to contribute in areas that align with your talents and the things you enjoy doing. We are not interested in an au pair.
