    Description

We are an international couple who met in a beautiful Georgian village and soon knew our lives would never be the same again. After some wandering, we found ourselves buying a very old village house and dreaming of renovating it to create our own bubble and share it with other travelers. In other words, we want to open a hostel in a small village in the mountainous Racha (რაჭა) region

After living in cities and apartments, we realized that the most natural way to find and nurture community is in the village. We love people, we love Georgia, we love organized chaos. We love long conversations by the fire, one of us loves twerking while the other was a drummer in a punk band. We love our morning coffees, we love having a forest 10 minutes’ walk from the house, and we love the mountain panorama you can see from our garden.

The house is surrounded by absolutely stunning nature – one of the biggest lakes in Georgia, untouched forests, caves, waterfalls, uncrowded hikes, mountains – this is all Racha. Known as ‘Georgia’s Switzerland’ Racha is absolutely loved by locals and we believe this area is going to become more and more popular among tourists, so take a chance to explore it right now (and then come back again and again cause every season here is special).

We have warm and comfortable summers (it never gets unbearably hot here), we have a beautiful, colorful autumn, and a proper snowy winter. Are we ready for this? Not yet, so we really want your help.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a Belarusian-German couple. One is a former software developer, one is a former social worker. We have both lived in Georgia for several years, we know the country well enough to understand that we will always be learning something new, and we would love to bring you along on our journey, even if just for a little while.

We live together, work together, cook together, and eat together. We value community spirit and other people’s inner worlds; we appreciate both being surrounded by people and having time to recharge.

The house needs a lot of renovation, so there are hundreds of opportunities to learn how to repair, restore and maintain. We ourselves always want to learn something new and share the knowledge we’ve already gained.

We are both handy people with experience in creating beautiful and useful things from sticks and stones (sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally). A bit of carpentry, a bit of construction here and there, a bit of sewing, a bit of decorating, and here we are – on the way to renovating our village house. With your help, we can make it something truly special.

The house is around 150 years old, and for the last 15 years it has been abandoned, empty, and we believe, sad. So we want to bring some life back to this incredibly beautiful 2,000-square-meter plot of land.

We have a lot of work inside the house, outside the house, and in the garden:

    - Woodwork from DIY decorations to furniture and some more complex projects – our pinterest boards and folders with saved images and videos are full of references and inspiration.
    - Some rooms need a bit of attention, while others need more work such as mortaring, plastering, removing old wallpaper etc.
    - The garden was untended for at least 15 years, and some trees really need someone who knows how to help them (for example we have an old beautiful oak tree that is sick).

For the last couple of months we have been working on the house by ourselves with the help of our dear friends and sometimes professional local workers. We are happy to have people around who are willing to help, contribute, give ideas, and be ready to bring other people’s ideas to life. If you have experience in something we mentioned above – amazing; if you don’t but you are willing to learn – also amazing! We will figure it out together.

    Accommodation

Until the dormitory is set up there is one big room to share with other volunteers. We also have plenty of space in the garden to pitch a tent.

We have an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor shower and the coziest camping toilet you’ve seen.

As we have just started, we are still figuring things out. We are providing groceries for breakfast and dinner, and as a small group, we cook all meals for each other and eat together.

We are located a 20-minute drive from Ambrolauri, the regional center (it’s really easy to hitchhike). The region is still wild and has incredibly beautiful places to explore; our neighbors are kind and friendly, and you’ll have the chance to get a very authentic experience here.
