    Description

Join us on our family-run 15-acre organic farm in a secluded location in the heartlands of Oman at the tip of the Arabian Peninsula. We are cultivating date and fruit trees, perennial crops and seasonal vegetables in system loosely based on permaculture principles unique in Oman. The challenge of maintaining diversity and sustainability in an arid climate with little rainwater, means that we are in permanent exciting state of experimentation. We practice zero tillage, soil building, alley and circle planting, mulching, crop rotation, composting and companion planting. We use green manures, groasis plantation for indigenous trees, recycle grey water and make our own organic pesticides. Our farming activities are supplemented by bed and breakfast accommodation in our four purpose-built eco-cabins for mainly European visitors to Oman.

We are looking to host a single person (male accommodation only) to help us with farm tasks and welcoming tourists in November. This would involve working 5 hours a day 5 days a week for a minimum period of 3 weeks. The ideal person would be an independent, motivated and mature individual who is happy to be in wide-open spaces, close to nature and a non-smoker. Farming /landscaping experience or practical skills such as construction or carpentry are required.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You will have two full days a week off and free time other days of the week. Due to our remote location unless you rent a car or travel to pick up the (infrequent) bus from the main road you will need to be flexible on which days of the week these are. We are happy to provide a lift back to Muscat as and when we can depending on our schedule and commitments. You might prefer to accummulate days off so you can have a good stretch of time touring for example. We want to be clear however that due to lack of public transport most of your time is likely to be in the immediate vicinity of the farm. Please also be aware that this is an off the beaten track location with few amenities in the locale other than those on the farm (swimming pool, table tennis, bowling) and the village a few kilometres away and thus not suitable for someone who is looking for thrills and excitement. Please also note that alcohol in Oman outside (expensive) hotels is not widely available so if this is an important part of your lifestyle, our location will not suit you.

In your free time, off the farm you can climb the neighbouring hills (bronze age tombs), accompany us on errands in the locality and subject to the farming and guest schedule, we would do our best to show you to a few sights such as forts, abandoned adobe villages etc...nearby.
