Our dream to build an eco-friendly hostel in Otres Village was born at the tail end of 2015. Our inspiration comes from a magical faraway place where Peter Pan and his Lost Boys live.
With the help from volunteers, travel pals, and friendly local Khmer people, we built an unique hostel with open construction made out of natural materials and recycled woods.
Currently we have five tepees and a two story treehouse style dorm for our guests, being able to accommodate up to 25 guests.
The main features of the Hostel include:
// The round open plan driftwood bar is surrounded by cushions, hammocks and swings overlooking the lake with multiple different level platforms - perfect for conducting workshops, reading a book, painting or simply enjoying the atmosphere...
It has been decorated like no other place you will find in Cambodia.
// Our outdoor kitchen is fully stocked and ready for us to cook delicious meals together! We are working on planting a small garden full of fruits and vegetables for all guests to use!
Currently we are growing bananas, mangos, passion fruits, dragon fruits, pineapples, morning glory, chillies and much more in between our jungle style accommodation. With your help we would love to plant even more!
We opened the gates in November, by January this year the hostel was in full swing.
From this came good and bad experiences and expectations which we would like to carry into the start of this new season.
One of our proudest set ups is the weekly village clean up (Sundays) where we collect the trash left behind from tourists and locals. We like to respect our environment and we would like you to get involved - you get a good mix of people from around the village helping out creating a team like atmosphere.
We also like to hold food nights - last season we held at least 3 nights a week in which we invite travellers and friends to try different world cuisines including Khmer, Indian, Mediterranean, Mexican, German, Austrian and Italian dishes.
Our opening hours are from 8am to 12pm every night, in order to ensure guests and volunteers are well rested - last orders are usually around 11.30pm and the bar closed by 12am.
This was necessary due to last seasons volume experiences and the open design of the hostel.
Come to our place and you'll be lost in a world like no other. We are located in the humble but buzzing Otres Village.
If you are looking to lounge on relaxing sandy shores, we are only a short walk down the road from the stunning beaches of Otres, waiting for you to explore!

Helping with Tourists
We were lucky enough to meet Mr Singh, who is currently the leader of all gardening projects and is doing a great job in maintenance of the whole of our place.
For his wedding in the beginning of 2017 most of the volunteers made the trip to the Cambodian province where his family comes from and got to attend the festivities for over 4 days.
As a result he has become one of the most important members of our family and since then lives with his wife on the grounds.
*️*️*️WE ARE REOPENING END OF NOVEMBER *️*️*️
Therefore we have up to 4 spots available in November for MAINTENANCE / BUILDING!
Rain has had his impact on our hostel, so we need to get some fixing done before reopening.
We will be replacing floor pieces of platforms, kitchen, bar area which are all made out of wooden planks.
There will be roofs which need some fixing, as well as smaller maintenance jobs as well as a general clean up of the space, putting sand out, mixing concrete etc.
If you have experience with using natural material such as wood, bamboo etc. or just wanna give us a hand during this period let us know, we will be happy to host you from around the 10th of November.
As usual we are looking for volunteers being able to help us out with:
//Creative Work (2 spots available):
Calling all painters and designers! We want you to create more signs and artwork to put up around the hostel - this is entirely up to you what materials you use although we do encourage you to use recycled materials you may find on the beach or around the village - driftwood, old chairs, scrap pieces - they can all be used to further decorate the interior or exterior of anywhere you choose.
//Gardening (1 spot available):
Mr Singh has worked his magic over the grounds and the place has become a jungle - we now look for another volunteer to impart some more permaculture knowledge and join Mr Singh's mission. We like to recycle any materials available - for example the morning glories are planted in hanging glass bottles which combines creativity with organic farming - if you have any similar ideas, are interested in creating a unique garden space or simply love spending time with plants this could be a good opportunity to get involved!
//Workshops (2 spots available):
This is our most open category and we are looking for whatever you have to offer - anything from yoga to cooking classes, dance to circus skills, we want to hear from you! We would like one person to conduct yoga classes in the morning for volunteers and guests or share whatever knowledge that could be useful or interesting.
//Cooking for volunteers (1 spot available):
If your passionate about cooking we would love to hear from you! We will be looking for someone to cook once or twice a day depending on the demand - you will be cooking for the other volunteers (we will provide the ingredients). All meals must be vegetarian or include this option.
On occasion you might be asked to help out another volunteer in their project or role.
In return for your hard work you will be provided with a dorm bed, unlimited kitchen access, at least 2 free meals a day and half price drinks at the bar. Hydration is key, so water is always for free.
It is important to bear in mind that your actions will be representing our reputation, which could be reviewed online.
We would like to request that any volunteers applying will be responsible and clear headed during shift times.
English, Khmer, Swedish, German
You will be sharing our beautiful dorm with the other volunteers and staff members above the bar.
We will provide a mattress, mosquito net and fans. If you bring your own tent or hammock, you are free to set it up wherever you want here.
We usually cook dinners together in the common kitchen. You are welcome to join us for every meal which is vegetarian or cook your own dishes.
For breakfast we are providing eggs, bread and fruits for our guests as well as you. Preparation is up to you!
You will also be given a half price discount for drinks at the bar, as well as free water.
You are gonna be living in Cambodia, which is rich in culture and amazing people.
Our hostel is located in Otres village on a remote corner with a lake in the backyard and provides a relaxing atmosphere. On the main road, which is a couple of minutes walking away, you will find cheap Khmer restaurants and places to have a good time. Also you are only a throw stone away from the beautiful Otres beach, having lovely islands close by just a boat ride away.
