  Dear workawayer, dear workawayer,
  
  We have been welcoming workawayers from all over the world for four years and can look back on a variety of different experiences as well as a rich intercultural exchange.
  
  Some people accompanied us for one to three months, while a now-loved acquaintance from Spain even stayed with us for a whole year. This year we, Mathias (entrepreneur, 49 years old) and I (midwife, 41 years old), took the opportunity to sum up.
  As a family with four children (16, 15, 9 and 5 years old), we have found that long-term cooperation, ideally over a whole year, offers the greatest added value for all parties. This gives our children and us the opportunity to build a stable, trusting relationship. At the same time, the workawayer has enough time to learn the language and establish meaningful, helpful routines.
  
  The tasks include, among other things, support in the household, such as shopping, cooking (preferably high in protein), laundry and maintaining order. In addition, there are always smaller crafts that need to be done in the apartment. Our children also enjoy having dedicated support, be it with board games, occasional homework or dropping off and picking up.
  
  What you should bring:
  Reliability and initiative are particularly important to us because we are a large family and it is important that you recognize tasks independently and can take on responsibility. Openness and flexibility are also an advantage, as everyday life with four children can be dynamic and varied. We also want patience and empathy in order to promote harmonious coexistence, especially when dealing with children and in intercultural exchange.

  Ein Jahr in Berlin
  Liebe Workawayerin, lieber Workawayer,
  seit vier Jahren empfangen wir Workawayer aus der ganzen Welt und blicken auf eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Erfahrungen sowie einen reichen interkulturellen Austausch zurück.
  
  Manche Menschen haben uns für ein bis drei Monate begleitet, während eine mittlerweile lieb gewonnene Bekannte aus Spanien sogar ein ganzes Jahr bei uns war. Dieses Jahr haben wir, Mathias (Unternehmer, 49 Jahre) und ich (Hebamme, 41 Jahre), die Gelegenheit genutzt, ein Resümee zu ziehen.
  Als Familie mit vier Kindern (16, 15, 9 und 5 Jahre) haben wir festgestellt, dass ein langfristiges Miteinander, idealerweise über ein ganzes Jahr, den größten Mehrwert für alle Seiten bietet. So haben unsere Kinder und wir die Möglichkeit, eine stabile, vertrauensvolle Beziehung aufzubauen. Gleichzeitig hat der Workawayer genug Zeit, die Sprache zu lernen und sinnvolle, hilfreiche Routinen zu etablieren.
  
  Die Aufgaben umfassen unter anderem Unterstützung im Haushalt, wie Einkaufen, Kochen (gern proteinreich), Wäschepflege und das Aufrechterhalten der Ordnung. Darüber hinaus gibt es in der Wohnung immer wieder kleinere handwerkliche Tätigkeiten zu erledigen. Auch unsere Kinder freuen sich über eine engagierte Begleitung, sei es bei Brettspielen, gelegentlichen Hausaufgaben oder beim Bringen und Abholen.
  
  Was du mitbringen solltest:
  Verlässlichkeit und Eigeninitiative sind uns besonders wichtig, da wir eine große Familie sind und es darauf ankommt, dass du Aufgaben eigenständig erkennst und Verantwortung übernehmen kannst. Offenheit und Flexibilität sind ebenfalls von Vorteil, da der Alltag mit vier Kindern dynamisch und abwechslungsreich sein kann. Zudem wünschen wir uns Geduld und Empathie, um ein harmonisches Miteinander zu fördern, besonders im Umgang mit den Kindern und im interkulturellen Austausch.
