    Description

We are Enid and Daniel. A married couple in our 30s living in Slovakia. Since 2 years we live in a old rural house with a big garden. There is still a lot to do around the house and garden that we would like some help with. The house is located nearly at the edge of a rural village, you can walk strait into the forest for a walk, which we do often. We love being in nature most of all. But the town of Rožňava is not so far either by bus its just a few minutes, and tacis are cheap. This summer we invite workawayers for the first time. We hope to meet some interesting people, who would like to help alongside us restoring this place to a better state, but also like to get to know dome new people. We feel that would enrich our lives, and hopefully be a good experience for you too.

For our guests, we have a separate little house in our garden that we just renovated. Its suitable for a couple, a lone traveller or 2 friends travelling together. It has comforts such as a washing stand, heating, tv, internet. Bio toilet outside. Shower and kitchen is in our house, to which you will have access as well. We will provide you with meals off course. We often enjoy some BBQing on our terras, where you would join us, or otherwise in our kitchen. We do not smoke. Smoking is allowed only outside, but not prefered. We have a glass of wine most evenings, and its fine if you drink socially too.

We have a dog and chickens, so you should be not afraid of dogs here. You may bring your own too. My husband (Daniel) is away for work about half the time, but I (Enid) am always home. I work from home at the pc 3 days a week, wednesday to friday. The rest of my time I take care of the home and try to restore it, but its a lot for one person alone. From workawayers we would expect to help on mondays and tuesdays for sure, together with me, and other days we can decide on together, depending on weather and plans also flexible. If you are an independent helper who wants to make some extra pocket money and work more than 3 days ( or 24hours) a week, we could talk about it. However we do not have the budget to hire someone as full time job. This is meant as an exchange: accomodation, meals, board, and cultural exchange for help. Not a job offer in disguise. This could be a great stop during your travels through europe too!

On your free days you could explore this lovely part of Slovakia. If we go somewhere, you can but must not join us. On days that I do not work I could bring you places with my car. This area is great for hiking, a friend of mine offers horseriding, bicickle riding if you do not mind hills. The town of Rožňava offers shopping or lots of places to get a coffee, meal or drink. There are caves to see in this area, and places to go swimming, and much more.

It would be good if you speak English or German, but Dutch or Slovak is possible too. We are originally from the Netherlands and Germany, but have been in Slovakia for some years. We do love living close to nature, and enjoy our garden very much. We are not party animals. Evenings after dinner and all, we relax before we go to bed. You are free to do the same, or make your own plans. If you travel with a dog or or other pet, that is probably fine, just ask.

To avoind a coming and going, the minimum stay is 1 week, but a bit longer is better. We like to plan, but not punctual into extremes. We are open to workawayers this summer from 5th of july to 6th of september 2025. We can pick you up from Rožňava, but our village is called Rudná.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are originally from the Netherlands and Germany, but have been in Slovakia for some years. Our English is fine. I would love to speak and exchange cultural idears. We do not travel a lot anymore ourselves lately, and would love to hear your stories and motivations.

Our neighbours are very open, and i will introduce you to our friends. Our family does not live close to here unfortunately.

We both have experience with living and working in serveral other countries. In the past I travelled as a workawayer myself. After a days work, lets share stories! If there is a click, I hope we can spend free time together. My personal experience is that I still have friendly contact with the people I met when travellingbas a workawayer. We are however a bit introvert, not party animals.

  • Help

    Help

Your tasks here would be a reflection of real village life, but with ecocological and traditional ideals: helping us to make the summer kithen ready for use. Helping me in my many efforts to keep this place nice. I will teach you traditional methods to restore an old homestead. Helping to make the summer kitchen functional. Chopping wood, with my husband Daniel. Helping in our ecological garden, like harvesting or daily watering, grass cutting or weeding. Also preserving the food from the garden is a task. Feeding chickens and dog. Daily walk with the dog if you like, he loves to walk in the forest. More tasks and ideas will come up as we get to work for sure. Most tasks we have are traditionally mens tasks, but we are big on ignoring those kind of rules about roles. We would welcome workaways with a hands-on approach.

You will have you own little house in our garden that offers all you need. It has a double bed, and a chair that can recline into a single bed. (So it could be suitable even for a couple + a child) It has an old fashioned washing stand, and a compost toilet right next to it outside. You can use the shower, toilet and kitchen in our house. Our guest house has internet, electric, tv, netflix. Even heating, although I doubt you will need it in the summer.

We will provide you with meals/food off course 🙂, you will eat with us.
