    Description

We are a family with three children, aged 7, 11 and 15, originally from Germany and America. We recently moved onto a beautifully situated 46 acres site where we are in the process to establish a farm, garden and a respite care house for people with special needs. We have 11 alpacas, 2 goats with kids, 40 sheep, 9 chickens and 5 cats.
We are gradually introducing bio-dynamic methods to the garden and farm. We are in the process of building a new house and are hoping to landscape a disused quarry.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

During your stay you will get to know a few people who live and think slightly different than main stream society. There is a rich cultural life in the area, particular to mention is the Festival of traditional Irish music from the 8th to the 13th of August.
If you stay for a couple of weeks or more you will learn how to handle alpacas and might be present at the birth of a cria (alpaca baby). When you are there for the building you will pick up a few useful skills for renovating houses.

-We need someone now until the 10th of September-
At present we need help with pulling out weeds, digging and moving rocks from our quarry to the house we are building. You also can have a go at milking the goats. When it's raining we have lots of alpaca wool to card. Our oldest son has Aspergers syndrom and can be socially challenging, but thrives on individual attention. Some involvement with the children will be part of your life here.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be sleeping in a large caravan, which has running water, a small bathroom, electricity and a gas oven. You can join the (vegetarian) meals with the family or provide your own food and cook for yourself. The caravan is very quiet, you only will hear the birds and occasionally the sheep or the neighbours cows.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are situated 5 min drive from a small town from where there is a bus to bigger towns. You can have the use of a bicycle. 10 min away is a large lake with possibilities for watersports and fishing. We have a canoe and a kayak. The dramatic west coast (Cliffs of Moher) is 1 1/2 hours away and a bit closer is a fascinating limestone landscape with ancient monuments and an abundance of wild flowers.
Working time is flexible and there is no problem if you want to take a few days off to explore the wider surroundings. You are also welcome to come along on family outings.
