We are a family with three children between the ages of 12 to 17. We live in a lovely country setting but just minutes from a thriving East Cork town. We don't have a farm but on 3 acres of land with our 5 horses / ponies, 2 dogs, and a cat. We love walking the dog, going to the beach, horse riding, and care about the environment. We love animals and are passionate about animal welfare (we have previously adopted hens from a animal rescue centre as is one of our ponies).

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Our lovely location in East cork means there are plenty of things to do and see locally and lots of lovely beaches to explore. As we are located just 20 minutes from Cork City and 30 minutes from Cork Airport we are ideally situated for travel links to explore more of Ireland. Our nearest town is a 5 minute drive away and is an old market town with lots amenities such as a cinema, a high street packed with shops and a Library.
Although our languages are limited to some basic French we are always excited to learn new languages.
We are looking to host someone or a couple who enjoy outdoor country living and aren't afraid of a bit of mud! In general we need an extra pair of hands and would need help with anything from mucking out stables and walking the dog, helping to set up our new veg garden, weeding, mowing the lawn, hedge cutting, planting and composting, clearing out an old building, fencing, fence painting, composting, ground help and also there may be some help needed with general household chores. Someone with experience of horses is a must. We would love someone who loves kids and enjoys having fun with them whether its kicking a ball about in the garden to playing a board game but primarily we need someone to help with the animals and the garden. There may even be housesitting required if we need to go away and need animals minded.
We also run a small therapeutic riding practise from our yard.

Accommodation
Whilst we do have a spare room in the house with a double bed we may also be able to offer separate self catering accommodation in a bungalow on site depending on its readiness for occupation. Our dogs and cat live indoors with us just to be aware in case of an allergies. We do generally eat a family meal together in the evening which we welcome people to join us but with the kids extra curricula activities this can be a moveable feast so self catering may be required mostly. Just to note that three of us are vegetarians so we do eat a lot of meat free meals.
What else ...
Lifts can we arranged to tie in with busy family life and also access to a bike can be arranged from shorter trips in town which is about 20 mins away by bike. There a bus and services into Cork city and Waterford and also a train station running from our nearest town to Cork City that runs hourly.
Alice stayed with us for several weeks recently and we loved having her to stay with us. She fitted straight into our family life and was such a joy to have around the place. She helped in the home and in particular with all horses and walking the dogs. She works really hard and is very experienced when it comes to animals and stable management… read more and she kept the yard super clean and tidy, going above and beyond constantly. It was wonderful to have her help and we are very grateful. We miss her very much but we know that we have made a new friend and will definitely keep in touch.

My experience with Sarah and Peter was amazing. They made me feel comfortable right away, and I felt at home. They have three lovely teenagers, and I shared great moments with them. There was a real cultural exchange and many shared moments, I felt like a part of the family.
I really enjoyed working with the horses and learning about Sarah’s job… read more (equine therapy). They also have two dogs and a cat that I loved spending time with.
This experience was very enriching for me on many levels, to improve my English but also from a human perspective. The whole family was very attentive to my needs and wishes, which was really nice.
Thank you so much for these three months I will never forget. I really hope we stay in touch! :)

The best way to start is by saying that I would love to come back if I have the opportunity.
Sarah, Peter and the kids are a truly warm and welcoming family. I felt comfortable and integrated very quickly. The work on the property is definitely manageable and diverse. Sarah always made sure we were on the same wavelength and distributed the work… read more well. The physical work and of course the work with and around the animals has been really fun and lovely. I was also able to do some positive reinforcement training with one of the ponies and learned a lot about the therapy training that Sarah provides. All animals are treated equally as a part of the family with much love and attention to their individual needs. Furthermore we had great conversations and just a great, spirited time. I always had the opportunity to attend dinner and was always offered a ride into town or to the nearest public station. The time spent together with the kids has been very relaxed, communicative and inspiring. I appreciate them very much and am glad to have made their acquaintance and hope that we will keep in touch in the future. I had a really great and enriched time and frankly felt very appreciated. Thank you so much for this lovely stay!

Emma stayed with us for 9 weeks in the middle of Irish Winter but it didn’t phase her at all and she was always happy to brave the wind and the rain to look after our four horses. She threw herself into to family life and we were glad of her help. Her English improved immensely by the end of the stay so well done to her for working so hard at it.… read more We wish her all the best in the future.

For my first Workaway, I'm very grateful to have spend nine weeks in the company of this busy and friendly family. Sarah, Peter and their three children made me feel very welcome in their big, lively home. It was a real pleasure for me to work with their four horses and to be continually in contact with happy animals. I had the opportunity to… read more learn a lot of things and to do some horse ride in addition to being able to train them in the arena of the property. I had all kinds of very interesting discussions with Sarah, ans it was also a good way to improve my level in English. I discovered beautiful places in this region of Ireland and I also met many people during this trip, some of whom I will never forget.
