    Description

    Hi!

We are a family of four living in beautiful Warrandyte, on the outskirts of Melbourne. Nestled alongside the Birrarung (Yarra River) and surrounded by bushland, Warrandyte feels like a small country town while still being only around 40 minutes from Melbourne's city centre, with bus and train options available.

Our family includes Noah (8), Ari (6), and our cat, Townes. John is a musician and music teacher, and Felicity is an organic vegetable grower, mother, and parenting coach.

**This Workaway is best suited to someone who feels genuinely at home in nature, enjoys steady hands-on physical work, and is comfortable in a family environment where daily life includes children, home rhythms, and time outdoors. It suits someone who values simplicity, independence, and meaningful connection over busy or urban-style travel.**

We are a warm, active household with a strong connection to the land and a simple, grounded family rhythm. There is a steady flow between tending the home, working the land, being with the children, and resting into the surrounding nature.

We moved here from the city 3 years ago and are slowly bringing our one-acre property to life. There is always something to tend, grow, improve, or create. We are regularly visited by echidnas, kangaroos, and an abundance of birdlife.

There is a natural rhythm here of work, rest, and exploration.

Work includes caring for the home, garden, and land:

    * Deep cleaning kitchen and main living spaces, keeping the home feeling warm and cared for
    * Dishes, simple home cooking, laundry, cobwebs, and window cleaning
    * Collecting, chopping, and stacking firewood
    * Playful time with children
    * Gardening: planting, weeding, and preparing garden beds for seasonal growing
    * Simple building and hands-on homestead projects
    * Mowing and general land care across our one-acre property

Rest and home rhythm includes shared meals, time in the garden, quiet moments, and being part of a simple family life that values slowness, connection, and presence.

Exploration is right on our doorstep:

Bushwalking, birdwatching, kayaking, bike riding, and local farmers markets are all nearby. The Birrarung (Yarra River) is a 5-minute walk from our home for swimming and nature immersion. Melbourne’s cafés, arts, and music scene are easily accessible, and the Yarra Valley bushlands and wineries are just over the hill for day trips.

Ideally, we ask for help on weekday mornings from 9am–1.30pm, though we can be flexible. Occasionally we may ask if you're available at other times, and you're always welcome to say no.

Community is important to us. Felicity runs parenting groups from home, and John facilitates a community choir here as well. Most Friday nights we host a Shabbat dinner with friends and neighbours. We love ritual, storytelling, singing, meaningful conversation, and gathering around the table.

Our children attend the local Steiner school, and many of the values that shape our family life are inspired by a love of nature, creativity, play, and an unhurried childhood.

While we are an active family, we also value quietness, stability, and downtime. We are a low-screen home, and we ask that screens (phone calls, computers, etc.) are used in your own room.

We are a five-minute walk from the river, where you can swim, bushwalk, birdwatch, or kayak. There is a bus stop near our house that connects to Warrandyte township and to Eltham, where trains run into Melbourne.

We eat dinner together in the evenings, and other meals are self-serve. If you're home for dinner, we ask that you help with the dishes afterwards while we put the children to bed.

Accommodation is in a beautiful mudbrick room with its own adjoining bathroom. It is a peaceful, comfortable space to retreat to — warm and cosy in winter with a heater, and naturally cool through the summer months.

We look forward to hearing from you, meeting you, and welcoming you into our home.
