  • Description

    Description

We are a family of 5: mom, dad, 3yo, 7yo and a cat, living in Hadsten, Denmark. Mom and dad are both engineers. We work sometimes from home, other times from the office.

    The house:
We live in a 4 rooms/bedrooms house with an independent kitchen, big livingroom, 2 toilets and a good size yard.
We can offer a bed in our office/guest room but we might need to use the office sometimes during the day. We can agree on this together and beforehand, no surprises. You will need to share the shower/bath area as we have only one.
Since we have rather small children, we might have some noise during the night, ocasionally, for example if they wake up and need something or if they are sick. Our walls are not so soundproof, so it would be helpful for you to not be very noise sensitive while you sleep. During schooldays we wake up around 6:30 and we cannot promise much silence until 8, when the kids are out.
    The location:
We have train station 20 min by foot away, and the train gets to Aarhus or Randers in ~20 min. there are also some busses crossing by in the same directions.
The city is super safe, lots of nature and nice cycle lanes around. There are different adult activities as well. If we go somewhere to visit, you can join us if you want, we have a 7 seats car.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We like to learn about other cultures and to share about ours. We are a Romanian family living in Denmark, so we can share a bit of both. We have both international and Romanian friends that might come over or we might hang out with and that you might join (in agreement with you and them). We speak English, Romanian and a bit of Danish. We like to share how people live in Denmark, and we can include you in some of our (family, civil or professional) activities, if you would like to learn about them.
Before having kids we used to host people though courchufing.org and we really enjoyed it. We can plan some activities together and we are open to organise small international exchanges/events at our house from time to time or help you reach other local communities.

  • Help

    Help

We need help with the daily family tasks. We have a proposal but we are open to other suggestions, we now we are doing it all by ourselves anyway.
We mainly need a good cook, to help us with cooking one daily dinner, maybe some snack and 3 main + 2 smaller packed meals for school/work (Monday-Friday).
We, the parents, are quite open to international kitchen, but the kids are still quite selective. So one with good experience in cooking might help us extend their culinary horizons. You also need to be flexible from this perspective, as they like/accept some foods just in some specific ways. We don't eat much dairy as some of us do not tolerate it well, but otherwise we eat almost anything. We thrive to eat healthy though, so not so much pre-cooked stuff from supermarket. There are also some Romanian traditional foods that we would like you to cook, but we can teach you how.
We are used to plan the menu weekly and do groceries once or twice a week. We will decide on the menu together and you can join shopping, but we will support you with it as it is not very convenient to get the groceries here without a car (you need to walk ~20/25 min uphill from closest supermarket).
Besides cooking, we would like you to help us with one more repetitive cleaning task. You can pick it yourself. Some examples are: laundry drying and folding (we can wash it ourselves), take care of the vacuuming with a robot, clean the bathrooms, clean the kitchen in the morning and in the evening etc. The frequency depends on the task you pick and the needs we will have at the moment.

This host offers a language exchange
Language exchange is not the main focus of our post but we are always open to it. Mom works in English on a daily basis but dad can use some more practice. Danish is also one language that we look to practice more but it is definately not required. We are open to teach you any language that we know, but mainly on the fly.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I mainly included this info in the first section. Bedsheets and towels are provided and you are welcome to wash them as often as you would like (and use another change in the meantime, ofc). The room has a guest bed of 140 x 180 cm and a 50 / 200 cm closet you se use for clothes and personal belongings. The room will be private but we might need to use it as an office sometimes, on beforehand agreement. We also use the room to deposit things we don't use on a daily basis. You will share the main bathroom with us and you can use all the common spaces like the kitchen, laundry room, living room, yard, terrace.
You are welcome to eat from the food you cook for us and we can agree on extra stuff you would like to have in the fridge for when we are not eating together. You can use the kitchen to cook for yourself as well.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We don't smoke in the house. You can do it in the yard. We are struggling to keep our things clean and in order already so we would like you to keep your things together and clean after yourself.
In the area you can do sports of different kinds. Aarhus has quite big international communities you can join. In Hadsten there are some activities as well, like boardgames nights or so, but I think they are mainly in Danish. There are also come charities around if you would like to do some more volunteer work. You can ask about specific activities you would like to do and we can send information on how accessible they would be for you, while living with us.

The guest/office room has an office desk you can use. The internet is quite ok. One of us has been working from home as software engineer and it works pretty well. The house is usually quite during working hours (8-16)

    Space for parking camper vans

You can park it in the front of your house and we can provide electricity. It is a closed street with 10 houses, so you I think you can have a decent level of silence and privateness.

    Can possibly accept pets

We would asume your pet is easy going and friendly, since you are traveling with it. We have a small cat, quite social but we did not see her together with anything else then other cats. If they do not get along together well, we need to make sure we make space for both of them and set healthy boundaries. You need to take care that your pet does not break anything or make up for that, you clean after it and take care of whatever it needs. It needs to be a pet that accepts active small kids around. Our kids love pets.
