Description
Hi workawayers!

We are Nynne, 49 years old and Soren, 66 years old.
We live up in Northern Jutland in the beautifull Dronninglund Storskov.
Our farm is Nynnes childhood home, which she took over, after her parents in 2010.
We try very hard to live in harmony with our surroundings and could use a hand in doing so, therefore we joined workaway in April 2021. It has been a huge success up until now, w 18 wonderfull people staying here and helping out. They are now friends of the house, and luckely, some of them have already returned up to 4 times! - Need we say that workaway is definitely here to stay?
We are sure that our succes is the fact that we have a facetime or skype w you, before you arrive. Then we all have a chance to see if the chemestry is flowing in both directions, so this is a big must for us!
We have friends of all ages and religions around the world and always try to keep an opend mind to new things.
We are fun-loving travelers with a good sence of humour. We enjoy life and are looking for new friends from around the world, who will come and stay with us and enjoy this beautifull place of ours. We both love music and good food.
We have horses, cats and chickens.

Nynne was an exchangestudent in Utah in 1991 through Rotary, and has had a BIG soft spot for exchange programs ever since! She has always traveled as much as possible since childhood, first with her parents, since then alone/with friends and now with Soren. Some of her favorite countries to visit is: ( just to name a few!) Marocco, Mexico, USA and The Faroe islands. She works as a dental highdentist monday-wensday. Is a hugh animal lover and has no kids.
She has worked as a photographer and as a chef so she is a creativ spirit who loves being outside in her garden or horseback riding in the forest. Would love to do more yoga, but dosent have the time... She`s a dinosour when it comes to computers! But she loves to play Backgammon and going to concerts for a good live show.
She belives that the shortes distance between two people is a smile and her favorit time is at the bonfire w friends on a summernight and maby... a cold Heineken.... She`s currently learning how to make willowtree baskets...

Soren is retiered as a policeman, but has a job in Aalborg on saturdays, selling danish design furnitures. Danish design is a big passion for him. But his biggest passion is burgundy wine and loves to read and learn about wine and of course travel to France to visit the winemakers and the winyards.
He also loves music and going to big concerts here and abroad.
Soren loves the countryliving with all there is to be done here at our wonderfull farm and think it is paradise on earth.
Soren has 3 kids, 2 living in Copenhagen and one living in Brussel.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This is a great possibility to try living on a farm out in the most amazing forrest in North Jutland. Dronninglund Storskov is a 911 hkt forrest.
We have 3 icelandic horses so if you are an experienced horseback rider, its possible to come along on a ride in the evening and in the weekends. We live in an area, where almost everybody has icelandic horses.
You can learn about gardening, growing tomatoes and chillies in a greenhouse. Learn the basic skills in pruning appeltrees, cooking- we really enjoy a good meal in the evening! Its the highligt of the day, when we sit down together and talk over a good meal. We eat mainly vegan, but also lam or chicken can be on the daily menu, so you can learn some tricks, and we are both very interested in your home kitchen- if you care to share!
We have both done a lot of traveling, so talks about the world and places to visit is always high on the list here!
If you are a nature lover, its a wonderfull place to go for a walk, run or ride a bike. Taking in the nature and watching the birds and deers ect, listen to the wind in the pinetrees. Maby a nap in the hammock? - Always good! Maby you wanna bring books?
We sometimes need some time for ourself, so some evenings you will need to entertain yourself.
The big cities Aalborg and Frederikshavn are both 30 min away. Its possible to go there with us, when we go to work. The top of Denmark, Skagen, can be reached from Frederikshavn, its a 45 min trainride.
Nynne is learning basketmaking w willowtree, and takes classes. Maby you wanna join in?
Help
We have a farm, where we`ll need help in the kitchen garden. Gardening is big from April to October. We grow without pesticides or chemical, so for watering and keeping things up to speed with the vegetables ( removing weeds). Help in the forest with firewood, and other things like maby planting trees, removing unwanted planting around the trees. Help around maintaining the horsefence. Maby some paintjob. Planting hedges. If we get the time MABY we`ll get around to building a small terrace this upcomming summer... Foodpreservaiton ( drying, pickles, making jam ect.) Nynne also does a lot of baking and cooking, mostly vegetarian, but everybody helps out with setting the table, cooking and the dishes afterwards.
- No experience necessary, enthusiasm and a good sence of humor is your most important talent!
The chicken, cats and horses off course needs love and attention on a daily basis.

Accommodation
You will be staying in a room outside the house, in the outhouse, it has a bed, big enough for two. Everybody who visit us, always comes in with a big smile on their faces the next mornig, saying thats the best sleep they ever had! Nynne has done a great job making it the most cozy room! You will be sharing bathroom with us, since this is a small and old farm, there is only the one! We have a washing mashine, but no dryer- The wind and the sun does a pretty good job!
We hope that our meals in the evening will be together! Breakfast and lunch is sometimes on your own but we will plan from day to day. But of course we will provide you w what you need.
What else ...
Since we are out in the countryside public transportation is very limeted. The public bus comes by once an hour, out by the highway We only have one car, but will of course try to help in any way we can. We have bicyckles.
Soren works in Aalborg every saturday for four hours and Nynne works in Frederikshavn monday -wensday 8 am until 4 pm. So if you wish to come along on a day off, its possible. We are very flexible and will work it out together.
We very much like to have people staying with us, have had exchange students here for shorter periods. But this is an old farm build in 1876 so we take care of the place and expect visitores will do the same.
If its a dry summer, we can have less wather, so bear that in mind, if you like your daily shower, maby this isent your lifestyle! We take care of the limited recources in the world and off course collect rainwather for the garden.
We eat mainly vegetarian and try to be as self-sufficient as possible. If you can give us inspiration how to become better at this, just jump right in!

- The right girl at the right time!

Samantha was our 6th workawayer in 2023 and stayed here for 3 weeks at the beginning of October.

Samantha was the perfect grand finale of a great 2023 WA-year here in our paradise. Samantha is hard to beat. We laughed and joked so much in the 3 weeks she was here. It was one big jolly… read more joyride.

Samantha helped out with a lot of differet tasks, since October is our lock-down month outside. We were very busy and in a hurry to get all our vegetables out of the garden and into the celler, before the frost and wintertime started. So fun days in the October sun and out in the garden, what more can you wish for, when you are in the best compagny w laughter and jokes flying around? Weeding was on the meny as well, so we could close down the garden. Samantha is NOT affraid of getting down and dirty outside. Getting some extra wood home, was a challenge, but it was a great workout for everyone involved! All our summerfurnitures had to be mooved inside the barn and the greenhouse cleaned and closed down as well.
Flower bulps were planted and will be a sweet reminder of Samantha in the springtime, when they start to pop up around in the garden.
Some days were indoor days, due to the weather. So Samantha cleaned windows and cabinets, helped w cooking dinner and foodpreperation for the winter. Nynne taught her how to make sourdough bread, and a lot of vegan recepies. One fun evening was the challenge of cooking one whole vegetarian meal in the foodprocesser;-) Samantha loved it!
We had to take a trip and was gone for 3 days, and had asked beforehand if Samantha was okay w beeing alone for a few days- No problem! So a bit of housesitting was also on the schedule.
Samantha is very smart w computers and helped out w some picture collages for our WA-profile
All Samantha`s work was done to perfection. This is a person w a very high work ethic, and we only had to show and tell once. Very nice quality!

We both instinctively knew, from the moment we had our usual facetime, that this girl was gonna be one of the great ones. And very soon after her arrival, it was like we had found our missing link-daughter. She melted into this household and was so easy to have AND be around. Liked all the food and tried a lot of new things w a big smile on her face. She` s a natural down-to earth-person, with a very special gift to make everybody feel as good and comfortable as possible in her company. She just makes everybody look and feel their best and shine. Its magic and cant be explained. But if she writes you and asks if you wanna host her, please take her into your home and we are sure you`ll feel that special Sammyspell as well.
Samantha is a sweetheart and the perfect match here. Her always cheerfull mood and positiv atitude, the smile, the hugs and all the jokes. But also deep conversations about the world. We all 3 have a big passion for Marocco, so we exchange travel tips about this wonderful country.
Luckely we all have a big passion for music and we loved to share our music w each other, its such a nice way to communicate and getting to know other people. The endless discussion here always goes around Chris Isaak vs. Eric Clapton- Samantha was trying to stay as nutural as possible..... We learned a lot of great new music from her, and it`s very often played here by now. Soren and Samantha made up their very special turkey talk one day, and could go on for hours. We laughed so hard!
In Samanthas freetime she did trips to Skagen and Aalborg, walked in the forrest or read on her e-book or in Nynnes many cookbooks- thanks to google translate!!
We are sure that a big affection for cats developed here, and think that Samantha will become a fullblown catperson in her future, when she will have her own farm;-)

Sammygirl, it was a gift and a true pleasure to have you in our lifes for 3 weeks. We were in a very stressfull time in our lifes, but you managed to make us laugh and relax and took a lot of stress of our shoulders w your bare presence and hard work. Thanks to you we got a lot done, even thoug we weren`t around as much as we should be. You have a special gift, use it well, and you`ll go as far as you want to! We will never forget you and hope to see you asap, here, there or in Marocco for a tagine in Marrakech- We will miss you until we hug you again!

Where do I begin? I don’t know exactly how to write this review - like many before me - because there are so many small details I wish I could capture for you. But here is my attempt:

Nynne and Søren welcomed me into their lives just a weekend after Kaori, their last workawayer, had left. They did so to accommodate my tight schedule, even amidst… read more a lot of personal events which have made their lives hectic and emotionally draining. Yet, even so, Søren picked me up from the train station in Aalborg and we arrived to Nynne preparing the most delicious dinner - spaghetti with foraged chanterelles from the forest and parsley from the garden. That first dinner was the beginning of a beautiful next three weeks - not nearly long enough. By the end of the first night I felt part of the family. I didn’t really know what that Danish term “hygge” meant until time with these beautiful humans. Endless laughter, warmth from the wood burning stove, kittens sprawled on your lap, music constantly matching the mood of the room, and endless tea times.

As for the “work” part of the workaway, rarely did a day feel like a “workday” at all. Okay, maybe that one day of hauling wood did me in a bit ;) but was only a reason for a bit of laughter, and a sore body (okay Søren, I admit I was a little sore from that day). No two days looked the same on the farm. You could be washing windows, making pesto with Nynne, digging up potatoes, wiping cabinets, baking bread, weeding weeding weeding, hauling wood… But days always begin and end at the same cozy kitchen table, a slow breakfast in the morning and a warm and scrumptious dinner in the evening. Never rushed. There is a different way of being on the farm, different from how I typically function in the world. Lean into it if you are able and lucky enough to spend time here!

The greatest gift that these two give is sharing their entire beings, their entire lives, entire ways of existing with you (and may I say that each one is wonderful) without any filters. I knew from the first facetime that there was something special about these two, but nothing compares to sharing your days alongside them. I am now back at home, and am continually reminded of them in the smallest ways. I now only wash dishes with music, because is anything else acceptable? Søren would say, “of course not.” I find myself smiling when I am trying to rush to cook something. “Are we in any rush to have dinner?” Nynne would ask. These two lead incredibly busy and full lives, yet they prioritize the little things in life that make it a bit sweeter.

Dear Nynne and Søren,

I miss you both already - well truthfully, the moment I got on the train I started to miss you. Thank you for caring for me like I was one of your own children. Nynne, our shared pots of tea, constant giggles, cooking moments, and car conversations. Søren, our dancing and music in the kitchen, turkey talk, table talk, and shared laughter. And the warm hugs from you both. Oh I cannot wait until I can wrap you both up in a hug once again - and this will (must) be soon! I am so lucky to have you as my Danish family now (my true Danish family hehe).

Kaori was our 4th workawayer in 2023, and stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of September.

Kaori came at a very difficult time, on the day of the funeral of a dear father. So her start here was a bit tricky, since we had to leave her alone just 2 hours after her arrival here. NOT a dream senario, but… read more canceling was not an option for us, that late upon her arrival, it really never is, around here. Luckily Kaori is a grown woman who understood what we were going through, she was just happy to have arrived.

Kaori is such a wonderful and easy person to be around. She was very curious about all the things we do in our everyday life, so she helped out in so many ways , just to learn from us. Great! She`s the type of WA who doesn`t look at the clock, so she was a 24/7 helping hand. We were behind with so much, since we had a dying family member, who, of course, had taken a lot our time for the past 2 months. The garden was in desperate need of a loving hand as well as a lot of other things that had been neglected for a longer period. Kaori was very accurate and careful with all the tasks we gave her. Everything was always done to perfection! This woman can really weed and made our garden look great again after 4 weeks of ... not a lot of work and a lot of rain!

Kaori helped with cleaning the car, weeding the garden ( A LOT of heavy weeding- luckily the weather behaved very well for these activities!!!), helped get the wood inside, she painted a bench, cleaned the celler, so it is ready for the wintertime and all the food that will go there. She helped with food preservation ( chilli, salsa, tomatoes), she cooked wonderfull Japanese food for us and helped out cleaning different areas around the house, inside and outside. She`s now also an expert in doing dishes;-) Kaori and Nynne had fun in the kitchen, where Kaori wanted to learn as much as possible. So hopefully some Danish will sneak into her wonderful Japanese cooking in the future. Kaori is very much into learning about baking and cooking, so please share with her. Its pure joy to have such a interested student. She has worked in the food industry, so it`s not just for fun she wants to learn. It`s really a love for food and learning new skills that drives her.

In Kaoris freetime, she spend a lot of time in the house w her phone ( It`s here we have the best wifi), since she`s on a 9 month trip, and of course needs to plan it ahead of her arrival for the next locations, months ahead. We had many talks about what to do and see, since we have been to a lot of places she was thinking of going herself. We also tried to suggest other places that could be interesting for her to visit. She took walks in the forrest and trips to Aalborg and Skagen, as we suggested. She`s not afraid to do trips on her own. We took her to the bus in the morning and picked her up again in the afternoon. No prblem.`Kaori is luckily also a cat person, so helping out with our kittens was a daily fun activity.
In the evenings we sometimes watched tv or a movie together, after those long sunny September days outside.

Kaori, thank you SO MUCH for being so understanding of our situation. We often felt we didn`t do our best hosting you. But you knew why, and you dealt with it so well, never complained if dinner was late, because we came home late! It was so great getting to know you and hear your stories.
It was raining up on your arrival here, but when you got to our farm, the sun broke out and shined on us all for 2 weeks. When we left you in Aalborg and said goodbye... The rain started again... I guess that says it all! You are our rising sun from Japan who came and helped out, when we needed you the most! You are always welcome back here! Mabye we will have the time to bake some cakes next time around?

Nynne and Søren’s Farm consists of a beautiful rustic farmhouse, with an attached barn, and separate guest house. The farm is surrounded by a lush forest of oak and pine trees, rolling green pasture, farmland, and wildflower meadows. Surrounding the property, there are many trails for walking through the forest during downtime. During my stay, I helped with everyday tasks such as doing dishes, collecting eggs from the chickens, washing windows, “wrangling” kittens, weeding, cutting grass, and building new barn doors. The work was very manageable and meditative. The farm is such a beautiful place that it's just nice to be outside working.

For this review, I thought I would share a little bit about Nynne and Søren, as they are what made the experience very special.

Nynne is a high-energy, enthusiastic, down-to-earth, nature woman with an appreciation for old things, farmhouse aesthetics, a tenderness for animals, and a deep appreciation for gardening and quality food. Her cooking is fabulous - it is the kind of food that is nourishing for the body and soul - colorful, delicious, and healthy (vegetables from the garden and mushrooms from the forest). It felt like every meal was impossibly better than the last - the chickpea pasta dish blew me away. Nynne and I had lots to laugh about - the kittens, how I ate all of her chocolate (a delicious accident), and the many everyday happenings on the farm! Time with Nynne flies by as she is very entertaining, but also a very warm, generous, and kind person.

Søren, a former police officer and furniture dealer, has an authentic appreciation for the finer things - fine wines from France, Danish/Scandinavian furniture, and everyday household objects. I really enjoyed my conversations with Søren, as he is very thoughtful and funny and has a way of bringing lightheartedness to any conversation. As a design enthusiast, I enjoyed talking to Søren about our shared interest in the arts, and furniture, as well as learning more about wine - a subject that I know very little about but feel like I am beginning to understand. Søren is also a great cook; he made a dish prior to my departure that was outstanding.

What Nynne and Søren share is a common ethic about living a beautiful life full of good food (and wine), travel, laughter, and community. Both are very funny, in a playful and witty way, and are always making jokes and telling stories about their family, interests, and adventures. There was never a shortage of entertainment with either of them:) By the time I left, I felt like I was part of the family. Thank you Nynne and Søren for sharing your home with me - I am very grateful for our time together, and I look forward to visiting again soon.

Thank you so much for letting me experience your beautiful farm and workaway experience! Eversince we first texted over a year ago, I was hoping to be able to come by and get to know you and your place. After spending my two weeks there, I can say that every second of waiting was worth it! I'm so happy to have found two new… read more amazing friends in the north of Denmark.

From the first second of my arrival after a big hug of both Søren and Nynne I felt at home. The small farm sits in a beautiful part of Denmark in the middle of the countryside. All around are beautiful forests and wild nature. The farm consists of a big vegetable garden, a cute home and of course such a cozy room for the Workaway to stay in. As other reviews have said, you will have one of the best sleeps of your life in there :D

The days were mainly spent in the garden picking weeds, cleaning stuff and fixing different things like the windows. The main highlight for me though were the evenings we were able to spend together. Nynne and Søren are such amazing people! Søren with his 52 years (and a few days) is really funny (sometimes) and is a master at morning omelettes and perfectly toasted bread. We've had so many interesting discussions about life, music and of course BURGUNDY WINE!

Nynne was so welcoming and we had some great talks about life in the countryside. She showed me so many intersting things about gardening and preparing delicious meals. The food you'll be able to try as a workaway is also one of the highlights. Especially all the foods that they are able to prepare with the vegetables that they grow themselves.

And then there are of course all the animals. The three icelandic horses are so beautiful and eventhough the weather was against us, we were able to go for some walks with them. The chickens are always around when you walk outside. And lastly there's the cats. I was lucky enough to visit at a time where there were 5 kittens. And I miss them sooo much. I really hope the Diver, Grey, Chubby, Camel and the Explorer will find a great home for the future. It was so fun to watch them slowly start exploring the house and being more playful. Billie Holiday and Elvis are amazing cats as well and love to be cuddled.

On free days Nynne and Søren will see that you can explore the region as you want. I was able to visit Aalborg and I could take a bike to sea which was great.

Carina was our 2. Workawayer in 2023, and stayed here for 2 weeks, in mid May.

We heard from Carina on a saturday, had a skype sunday, when she was in Prague on a short trip. But she was very eager to come and help out w all that we had to offer, so she arrived in Aalborg 4 days later,… read more ready to get started! And oh we were so happy to get some help from this girl, because Carina is really a super helper! She`s the type of person where you only have to tell how things are done 1 time, and then she gets it! REALLY NICE when your helper dont need to get instructions again and again! This was not just reg. work! Also the basic houserules, like how to clean up after her shower!! Carina set a new WA-standard for this!

Carina is VERY easy to host! She was on when we worked, and after work she just went for a walk in the forrest, was in her room or sad down and knitted outside, relaxing in the sun. Never in our way. Its like she instinctively knows when you need some time off, so she do her own thing when she`s not needed around. Dont know if its because she does this to be nice, but she`s never in your way. But in this small household, we see it as a VERY good quality for a WA to know when to step back for a bit, so we can recharge our hostbatteries;-) We dont know if this is because she has been traveling so much backpacking, but it seems to come very naturally to her!

Carina helped out w so many differet thing. We had to cut up the firewood, and this was the main job during her stay. 5 days of hard work in the sun, and then we were done. She is now our very favorite button-pusher nr 1! She quickly learned how it was done the easiest way w the machine.
She also did a lot of help in the garden w planting, watering and weeding, cleaning around the outside of the house, collecting "leftovers" from the horses, to the garden. She was always super positive and did everythig to perfection. We started every morning at 8 am w a walk in the forest w the horses. 3 horses and 3 people out in the forrest, some days we talked, other days we just took in the natur, listend to the birds singing. This was a mindblowing good start on the day. (Carina is very good w animals, so dont worry about giving her chores that involves animals, she will do fine, she`s very carring and softspoken but can also say NO when needed! )THEN home to coffe and breakfast. ( BTW Carina makes the best porridge, She even got Nynne started to eat breakfast this way!) And then off to work w whatever was on the schedule for the day. We changed some days around, so we worked in the weekends and she had some days of during the week instead, she was very flexibel w this.

At dinnertime we were all fully charged for some fun, and there were many many interresting talks about travels and life in generel. Carina has a plan on going to Iceland next year, so Nynne suggested to take the ferry from Denmark the Faroe Island and have a stop over there ( maby do a WA) and then go on from there to Iceland for a WA. So we hope this will happen next year - of course w a stop here first ;-)
Carina was very interest in where we had been travelling ( and of course we wanted to hear all about her trips as well), to learn about new places to go, so its was some very interesting talks about the world The big Atlas was often on the table, so we all could point out places to go. Naturally this girl wanted to see some more of Denmark and she got to see the westcoast, Skagen and Aalborg on days of. We all had some fine times on some of these trips, when we all went together. Its great to host someone who really is interetsted in what you show and tell them.
There were of couse also a lot of sarcasm, laughter and jokes flying around, both during work and around the dinnertable. Carina is a fun girl w a great sence of humor! She fitted right in the household- also on this account!
Carina wanted to cook for us, so she made a SUPER good curry dish one evening. Very very good, and we got the recipe, so it`s here stay and be cooked many times, when we miss her to much!
She is not picky about her food. Eat what`s on the plate and loved to try new danish dishes, so no problem there either!
All in all, this was a super nice and very easy WA expirience on every level!

Dearst Carina! Thank you so much for comming by so spontaneously w your good spirit, when we needed you the most! We had such a great time hosting you! Your smile, laughter and jokes are in our hearts forever and we will miss you until the day you return again, on you next big journey towards Iceland! Dont you DARE try to sneek up there without stopping by here on your trip!
You are now a member of our family- you know what that CAN includes by now;-)
We wish you the best of luck w your organic farming education and really hoped that we learned you a few tricks, here in our little paradise, to use in your bright bright future! We can`t wait to see what happens the next time you feel like being spontanious- But we will forever hope it includes a stopover here! THANKS FOR ALL YOU DID!

Amirlan was our first Workawayer in 2023, and stayed here for 2 weeks at the beginning af April.

Having a person from another country staying in your house for any period of time, is a great experience, and we really enjoy it! But when you get a chance to host someone, who was raised in a country you… read more hardly know anything about, things have a chance of becomming VERY INTERESTING! - This said in the most positive way possible!
Amirlan is originally from Mongolia, so we learned a lot of new facts about this interesting country so far away.

Amirlan was a great WA to host. She is not affraid to get down and dirty. Good quality here in April, since we had everyting from bright sunshine to 15 cm of snow in the 2 weeks time of her stay. Very April in Denmark! Amirlan has the best personality. Very calm and easy to be around, dont get stressed out, when we ( sometimes...) have a little argument on how things needs to be done....:-) Her calmness and good spirit spred out on all of us.
We had to get the firewood home from the forrest, very heavy lifting. But Amirlan also helped w. weeding in the garden, cleaning the greenhouse and getting fresh soil in the big heavy boxes we use to grow tomatoes and chillies in. Getting the terrace ready with a good cleaning and also getting the summer furnitures down from the loft and cleaning them, so they are ready for the summer season. Putting up a fence to protect new plantet trees from the deers. Collecting "leftovers" from the horses to help fertilize the garden. Helping out w getting compost from the recycling site. A lot of springtime jobs on a farm, but some of these jobs are very heavy lifting in a, sometimes, not so nice weather, but never once did she complain!

On her last night here, Amirlan did the coolest thing ever. Nynne is a complete disaster when it comes to computers but that dosent stop her from dreaming of what she likes to have done;-) So the last night Amirlan and Nynne spend 3-4 hours together in the kitchen, doing the coolest collages w writing for our WA profile. She is a true magician when it comes to computers! So Nynne chose the pictures and wambam THANK YOU Amirlan- We now have the coolest WA profile in Denmark! It was such a great job and Nynne would NEVER have managed to do this on her own, even if her life counted on it!!!! So if you need ANY help w you homepage/ WA profile/computer, Amirlan is NUMBER 1!
We also had the big pleasure of trying a vegan Mongolian dinner cooked by Amirlan. The best WA dinner! And mongolian food has absolutly nothing to do w. Mongolian baberque-- Just so you know!

Amirlan could easily entertain herself on her days of. Went running and for bike rides. Took a trip w. Soren to Aalborg on a saturday. Read or just did her own things. Nice and quiet and melting into the household here. But we had very nice conversations over dinner every night about the world, places to go, things to see and way more, but all very interesting for us!

Dear Amirlan. Thanks for knowing when to step back and give us some privacy ( at Nynnes birthday) and when to step up and joining us, in front of the tv for a good moovie, chocolates and the fireplace working in the background. ( VERY hygge)
We hope you will return to visit some day w. your boyfriend and have some fresh veggies from the garden- God knows you deserve it after all your hard work around getting the greenhouse and garden ready ! Thankyou so much for choosing us as your danish hosts. We learned a lot more than expected and hope you did too. You were so fantastic and easy to work with and we miss you a lot! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

A 19-year-old girl from Austria leaves the train at Aalborg train station. From the size of her backpack, one could already tell: She is here to stay.
And she stayed. Why? Because she met the two most endearing people Denmark has to offer.

Dear Nynne! Dear Soren!
Since the second Soren hugged me at the train… read more station I felt at home in a foreign country. The feeling of belonging and appreciation immersed when I finally arrived at your little paradise. My room, the garden, the chickens, the horses and of course YOU NYNNE– I got to meet all of them right before dinner (which was amazing btw, but I don’t have to tell you that).

Speaking of it, the foods they made for me were fantastic. I enjoyed every single meal, not just because of the home-grown ingredients but also because of the great great company I had. My journey through Scandinavia started in Denmark, but when it comes to food - I experienced Morocco, Greece and Italy in just two weeks! (Note: including our culinary journeys in front of the TV, there are a few more countries I’ve been to with Soren, Nynne and Phil 😉) In addition to the wonderful Dinners, I also had the best breakfasts one could ask for. What more can you wish for than a fresh egg and some (evenly cut) good sourdough bread before you start working in their tranquil and beautiful garden? Soren is the Master of Omelet, so I highly recommend having one when he asks!! Master - hmmm that sounds familiar – Soren combines all in one: Mayo Master, Potato Master, Falafel Master – fun is pre-programmed at their place!

Not only the evenings in the kitchen were funny – no, also the time we spent working in the garden to get it ready for the wintertime was very amusing as one can tell by the photos. I really enjoyed fulfilling the tasks you passed on to me and it was so wonderful to see how the garden changed into “winter mode” – (I can’t wait to see how it looks like when it wakes up from its hibernation 😉)

From the beautiful outdoors to the beautiful indoors: The separate room was a D R E A M – so cozy and with love to detail!! If you want to experience real “Hygge”, this is where you need to go. Of course, the main house is very comfortable too and the furnishing is just perfect. (Speaking of it, I made up my mind – Soren, you must admit: Nynnes chairs are the right choice.)

I could fill pages describing what an imprint these two weeks had on me. Not only on a personal, but also on a practical level. Nynne taught me useful things (throwing water, folding linen) – that will have a place in my further life, just as you two!!

Finally, I want to thank you for giving me the possibility to discover Aalborg and Aarhus. I’m more than grateful for these opportunities and very glad that I got to see Denmark a bit😊.

I hope you’re thinking of me as often as I think about you – I’m sure you’re thinking about me every time you look out the window next to the stove. (Btw send me the receipt as soon as you get a new one! – I mean it!!!)

That was me reflecting on a time in my life I’m not really able to put into words. I’m extremely thankful for all the experiences I made, but what counts in the end is: I met the most marvelous people and got to spend time with them (and wine and Tedeschi Trucks Band and Chris Isaak…to be continued…)

-Our very special -always happy and in a good mood-woman from Japan!

Yoko was our 5. Work Awayer in 2022 and stayed here in the middle of September- If we didnt have to go to Morocco, she would possibly still be here! Yoko was our 2. Japanes WA. And apparently they are very hard to beat- on any level!

Yoko came as a whirlwind of good… read more energy and always with a smile on her face. Nothing changes her focus from doing the best job she can in anything she puts her mind to, and she does. Much more than asked to do. It was great to give her a job, and when you come back from your own tasks, maybe hours later, she`s done and all by herself, has moved on to the next project, without you having to say anything! Great with someone who can look ahead and just go for it! We really like people who has this skill. SO if thats what you are looking for look no further!
We had a lot to finish up in the garden, before we left for a 2 week vacation to Morocco. And Yoko pulled it through, she adapted quickly. Helped out w. garden, chickens, cooking and cleaning the house. Any task, big or small was always done w a big smile and her wonderful laughs. A warning might be a good thing here! When you look into Yoko`s big brown smiley eyes, something inside you just melts.... And that`s a good thing in our point of view! She`s just a super sweetheart!

We absolutely feel in love w Yoko`s energy. We tried some new Japanese food, always very nice to have someone this good in the kitchen, cooking their food for you. Very tasty, and now we will always have Okonomi sauce in our house, thank you for that one Yoko:-) Lots of fun in the kitchen. Yoko is a woman who is curious in the most positive way. She`s in it to win it! Wanna know whats up and down in your world. Helped out in the kitchen to learn as much as possible. Yoko is also very interested in sharing Japan w you. So if you wanna learn about Japan, this girl is a catch!

Its no sceret that Yoko and Nynne made a very special bond. Long talks every night in the kitchen ( Soren left, so the "girls could do their things") It was very interesting to learn that female problems are the same, no matter where you live. Hours and lots of tea and wine later, around the kitchen table w the fireplace in the backgroud, we are now connected forever. Thank you so much for sharing all you stories! Those nights were magical and very special to Nynne forever.

Yoko, your dream is to have an organic farm in Japan some day. If we have helped you obtain that goal in any way, we will be proud forever. That will be more than we had ever hoped for, when we made a WA profile last year. No one deserves it more than you. Never give up chasing that dream! The world of today, sadly, needs it more than ever. We will hopefully be able to come to Japan some day and see your place ( and stand by YOUR special fireplace!!). You are a wonderful touching woman, so much beauty is growing inside you. You will do great things in the future- hopefully with a pinch of Denmark in the making!

So far we have only had people from Europe staying here, not because thats what we want, but Covid has put a big stop for a lot of fun! So when Ami wrote us and we had an opening, we were very excited to welcome someone… read more from a country we didnt know much about. THAT luckely changed!

How to describe Ami....
- Do you know that feeling of having a long lost and very dear friend visiting you for some days? Someone you dont get to meet every year, because that friend lives far far away. And you have the best time of your life when you are together, and you have to share all the stories and its like... Magic... The time flies by.... And its like you were never apart for so long... AND THEN your friend has to leave you... BUM! Suddenly there is a big big emptiness in your house and in your heart! THATS AMI!

We have nothing but good things to say here....

Ami helped out w everything. She was a big help in the garden, removing the weeds, very flexibel. Due to masssiv heat, we started early in the morning so we could finish before the temperature got above 25 and it was to hot in the sun. She cooked the best sushi and gave us a lot of ideas for japanes cooking in the future. She helped w cleaning the patio and some cleaning in the house. As long as you give good and clear instructions, Ami will do all she can. So no worries on her workethics, thats just perfect! She helped out everywhere she could! She was very interested in learning about danish cooking, so Nynne and Ami had the best time in the kitchen, teaching each other tricks.

Ami is very interested in cultural exchang. So we told her all the things she wanted to know about Denmark and we learned so much about Japan! All VERY interesting. Just what exchange is all about! The evenings vere wonderfull, we had luckely some of those long warm danish summernights, so we could sit outside until late, and share stories. Something we will remember forever. Very special to us all.
Ami is softspoken, has a very kind personality and the most wonderfull infectious laughter. She`s is the most polite, very well manered young lady. We had to step it up! Sometimes its good to "see yourself" from the outside. "Could I maby have a little better table maners, during dinnertime?"( Ami didn`t sit down, before we were all ready to eat) Ami is very interestet in all danish dishes, so meals is NOT gonna be a problem!

Since Ami is in Denmark for a year as an exchange student, Nynne wanted her to see as much danish as possible, during her stay here. So we did trips to visit family and friends, to see their houses, and how they live. Ami loved it, and everybody fell in love w. Ami! The morning when she had to leave, she came in the house w letters she had written during the night, to everybode she had met here. Not only were they written on the most beautifull japanes paper in her beautiful handwriting, she had also folded them japanes style (origami) into beautifull birds!!! The most thoughtfull thing ever! ( Again .... How can I maby become a better person?!!!)

Ami is a gift to anyone who is openminded and wanna learn about Japan. If thats you, take her in and show her your everyday. There is nothing to regret. We can only say it was an honor, a privilege and just pure joy to have Ami in our house. So we have, of course, invited her to come here and spend the christmas 2022 w us all.

Ami, you are forever a part of our family now. Luckely we will meet again, as much as possible, before your return home to Japan.

Well... After I got back home, I was immersed in the most wonderful memory with Nynne and Soren. (even now...)

In short, I had the best experience with two warm-hearted, the funniest people in the paradise surrounded by stunning nature.
I have no idea what I should write at first because many things happened! but...maybe working at the wonderful… read more garden? the beautiful nature? the lovely house? or...Soren's joking?... Okay there is no end so let me start to describe my work there!

Basically, I worked at their garden because in summer time the garden needs many things being done. What I've done is weeding, watering, cleaning up their patio and peeling of peas. Two days of my stay were very hot days so we agreed to start working earlier than usual and then end before the tempture went up. What I like the most is they always talked about not only the task at hand of mine but also the whole process which will be taken in the garden in the near future. That made me recognise the things I had done would actually help their garden. What a happy thing! And then of course, working with Nynne and Soren was very fun and I don't feel it was "work" I REALLY enjoyed it. From the work here, I learned sustainable, ecofrindly gardening. There is no waste. All we need is always being around us.

So...this is the time I like a lot! Sharing meals together! Nynne and Soren changed the home-made food into beautiful and delicious meal! I LOVE every single food they had made. I want to try making with the same recipe but I know probably it will take 30 years for me to reach their skill. But now I have their secret receipe of mayo, pickles, jam...hehe
And I have to give you an warning about dinner time. Especially the dinner time, it is the Soren's show time to tell many jokes. He made me laugh a lot and my stomach hurted. I also learned some jokes from Soren! Every moment is my memory. And I need to say the meal time was true "hygge"! I'm always happy to be with them. So if you want to experience local Danish culture, this is the best place!!

And! I met their friends and parents! I'm honered to meet them. All of them are soooo sweet and lovely people like Nynne and Soren. I had never seen the inside of local Danish house even though I've been studying in Denmark for 6months so Nynne thought it would be a good experience for me to see Danes life and culture from inside. And she asked them to invite me to their house! I had a lot of fun talking with them and I'm very happy they are interested in Japan! Nynne, I really appreciate your arranging to meet such amazing people.

Nynne, Soren, thank you for coming to my life. You are my family in Denmark. I definetely will come back. Next time, let me cook another Japanese food! Of course sushi is still Option A...

Marcus was our 3. workawayer in 2022 and stay here at the beginning of June.

Marcus wrote us last year, when we sadly were fully booked. But back then we agreed to stay in contact, and try again this summer. And luckely Marcus still wanted to come up and spend some time w us.

Marcus is a… read more professional carpenter, so of course we had a lot of things we could do together. And he didnt let us down!
In this household, sometimes things changes from hour to hour, so we had to start out with some plumberwork, that REALLY needed to be fixed!! Marcus jumped right in, so it was two days w plumbing, and the we had a bathroom again!- He didnt complain at all to this change of plans, just helped out all he could!
Then it was time to start working on the project, that was the plan from start. We had to renowate a room out in the barn and put up some shelves, that neede to be build on the spot, so it would fit in. The whole project was: Getting the walls and windows ready, painting them and then building the shelves. We all work hard, and the result it the best new room for storage!
Next project was fixing the roof on the chickens yard. It was a bit tricky, but now its up, againg, and both we, and the chickens, are very happy w the result!
The rest of the time, Macus helped out in the garden, watering, removing weeds and helping out with all the tasks that fills out a day in the countryside, when you have a farm w. animals and a big garden. He did it all very well. Marcus really likes animals, so he spend a lot of time around them, taking care of everything in his own kind way. Very nice to watch his interaction w the animals from the side. ( He brought snacks for the cats from Germany- NICE touch!)

Marcus is, by far, the easiest workawayer to host. ALWAYS aksing if it was okay he did this or that... We really enjoyed having him around, he`s very nice, polite and has the most wonderful gentel personality. He will easily blend in anywhere!! He just helped out with everything, setting the table, the dishes after. Helped himself with some snacks, lunch, drinks, But NEVER WITHOUT asking first!! And ALWAYS cleaned completly up after himself.
Reg. food. Marcus is just happy to have a nice meal, no problems there. As long as its good food, he`s happy. Dont ask for anything impossible. He does has a sweettooth, so we tried to make sure he stayed happy on that account w. icecreme, chokolates, and some homebaked cakes:-)
Some nights it was really nice weather, so we had bonfires, its was great evenigs, w. a cold beer and some very nice and interesting talks. This fine man has done a lot of traveling, so we heard some nice stories from around the world. We all really enjoyed those long warm danish summernights.
Marcus really like furniture design, so him and Soren had many daily talks about the danish desing history, and he also went w. Soren to work one saturday, to see the shop where Soren work w. design furnitures.
Marcus meet many of our family members and friends, they all liked him and was very impressed by his work! And ALL OF THEM tried to make his come to their places, to help them out with some building projects. He`s just so good and sweet!

Marcus drove up here in his car, so on some of his days of, he went away on a camping trip to the westcoast. He also did some driving around in our area and he really enjoyed the nature and the seaside, thanking us for giving him tips on what to see!
Marcus finished his Scdinavian trip w. one week in Sweeden, after 2 weeks here. And we of course offered him a bed on his way back home to Germany. So he was back for one night, before driving home. It was a really nice gentel way to say goodbye and slowly separate from such a wonderful person.

All put together! If Marcus gets in contact w. you, just say: YES PLEASE!

Marcus, we know your plan is to go down under next year, But IF your plans changes, please know that you have us to rely on! We were so happy to host you! Thankyou so much for not giving up on us last summer, and comming up this summer to help out. WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE! And hope that someday you will swing by our doorstep once again! Maby on your way to Norway;-)

Bastien was our2. workawayer in 2022 and stayed her at the end of March and until the beginning of April.

We contacted Bastien around christmas, to see if he could be interested in comming our way and help out w. the firewood. He was luckely up for the challenge, and after our… read more skype meeting, the plan was on. He wanted to spend some more time in Denmark and started out with some days in Copenhagen before comming this way up north.

Bastien is a very cool and funny person! He`s sweet and very helpfull with everything. He helps out in any way he can, and ame to please. Helps sets the table and doing dishes after. His military background really kicks in, everything he does, is done to perfection! And he does it all the way! He really likes to use his body, so "the harder the better", then he can have a workout, weil working ;-) And working with wood, does that to you! So for this job Bastein was a true jewel to us. Luckely the weather was very nice for the season, so we all pulled through and finished. First it was one week in the forrest, cutting down the last trees and driving them home, and then one week of chubbing and stacking. At the last day of work, the big accident happend and our tree clover broke down, so we had to spend some precious time fixing it again. But weil that was being taken care of, Bastien grabbed an axe, and started chubbing by hand! THAT really shows what kind of a fine young man he is! Not taking a break, but really just working as a teamplayer, to get the job done! NOT everybody thinks like he does. SO IF you are looking for a non quitter, THIS IS YOUR MAN!
He also took the time to make a total clean up, in his room, before leaving. Very nice, that we just had to do some laundry afterwards.

As the true frenchman Bastien is, he`s of course VERY MUCH into good food ( Very luckely, because so are we!) So we had great times at dinner time and enjoyed our meals together, with lots of good stories told around the table. He was very interested in learning some of Nynnes dishes, so they had a great time in the kitchen. He`s VERY easy to host, when it comes to food! His breakfast is white bread with butter and hot chokolate! Of course a nice big lunch at 1 pm, he is French!! During the day he likes to chew some raw veggies, and for dinner he just loves a good homecooked meal and a nice glass of wine. Bastien is a crepe master so he made very delicious creps severel times.... AND the BEST caramel sauce! That is a real treat, and he tought Nynne how to cook it, so thats now a new cornerstone in the desert kitchen here!

Bastien likes history, so Nynnes mom and dad took him for a drive around to see the local castel and other things in the nighbourhood . Bastien was very happy to see everything and we of course made sure he got to see the local cities Ålborg, Skagen and Frederikshavn on his days off. He very much likes sports, so running, and walking in the forest ( did a run w our nighbour) was high on his list. He did this after hard days w work, but enjoyed it all. We could not belive all the energy that runs in this fine man!

Bastien came as a dog-person, but... The Jazz cat did his magic and Bastien and him ended up in a total bromace! And thats just the person Bastien is. Everybody who meet him during his stay here, was totally head over heels with him ( nighbours, friends and family)! So sweet, polite and interested in other people and what thay have to share. Bastien takes it all in! Very nice and easy to host, dont ask for anything impossible, and very flexible.

Bastien, we really enjoyed having you here at the farm. Thanks again for your flexibility and hard work! You know you`ll always have a place here! The Jazz cat is very sad, so some day you will have to come and cheer him up again! But we know.... FRANCE NEEDS YOU;-)

Only two weeks with Nynne and Soren and so much to say. If your plan is to get away from the connected world for the duration of your stay, to learn or relearn how to live simply, I think I can say that you will go to the right place. Their house in the countryside 30 minutes drive from Aalborg offers a beautiful setting.

You will find 3… read more horses, 2 cats, one of which is a lovely cat named Jazz. A little advice, he loves to be petted, especially if you scratch him in the neck. Until now, no Workaway has succeeded in taking Jazz with him because he takes up a little space. So I'm telling you, you can already bring a few extra kilos of luggage. You will find chickens and a beautiful rooster! Well,..... not anymore. Yes he died during my stay probably of a heart attack. RIP Mr Mustamade......

I stayed at their place for 2 weeks to help Soren to cut down the trees, cut the wood as well as to break it in before being stored in their garage for the next 2 years. The work was very pleasant with exceptional weather for April. Of course who says work says small beer proposed throughout the day by Soren!

The farm is beautiful and almost self-sufficient in any case Nynne and Soren make sure to achieve this so if you like good food, homemade of course, you will enjoy it. You can discover the Danish culture and food because Nynne and Soren are very good cook. There is not a single meal that I didn't like!

You can talk about anything and everything because they are so open and willing to learn and pass on and it is a real pleasure to talk with them. You will be able to discuss current events, music, work and of course WINE. I think I'll tell you about the WINE, well no I'll let Soren explain it to you. If Soren asks you, YOU LOVE BURGUNDY WINE!!! Just in case, if he asks.

You will also have something to do. You can walk around because the farm is located right next to a beautiful forest, with animals everywhere.

Finally, you will live with them as with your family, if you are open you will see that you will be part of the family. I spent 2 weeks that felt like a few days.

I can only recommend you to go there you will find very cute animals, a beautiful setting and of course extraordinary people, with their heart on their sleeve.

My last week was Danish, the next one will be Norvegian, but unfortunately one of the best weeks in my life is Finnish.
I find this beautiful house lost in the countryside of Denmark by chance. Sometimes,luck can do great things. There, I met two lovely people, there is no word to describe Nynne and Soren. I don’t think that I remember a day… read more where I didn’t laugh, didn’t eat well, didn’t sleep well and didn’t learn very interesting things. I only spent 7 days in this place but it was like 7 hours. And I matured more in thes 7 hours than in the 3 last years. There, I learned about the real life, I learned that you don’t need the last car, the last phone, or the last video games to be happy. Once I’ll have the same life as Nynne and Soren I will be say that I succeeded in my life. They manage to get comfort and to use as little electricity, energy and waste as possible. It’s something than I can’t explain. They really give more than they receive. So I won’t speak about the work that we have to do because I could work one hour a day or ten hours a day, it wouldn’t matter for me. But it was a pleasure to help in the forest.
I’m sad for people who pay such high price in restaurants when you can really eat better meals in their house. Mostly, the food comes from the garden. Vegetables, eggs, fruits and sometimes, some meat. Everything is homemade and more than delicious. The dinner is a special moment. All of them are good memories for me. You sit in the kitchen at 18.00 and twenty minutes later it’s 22.00.
Nynne is a touching women. She is really passionate by her garden. She also is also a really good cook. She really likes to teach all the tips she knows. She is resourceful. Unfortunately, she can’t play Backgammon very well. It was so easy for me to win.
Soren is a someone clever and endearing. He is passionate about French wine and good music. He can prepare good breakfast and good coffee. He will teach you how to prepare all different kinds of open Danish sandwiches. Unfortunately, he isn’t funny. He thinks that he is, but he isn’t. So you can just laugh when he try to make a joke and I’ll be happy.
They are probably the greatest people I’ve ever met. I’m so grateful for everything they did for me. I felt like in my own house. I’m sure that every people, a little bit open minded and who like laughing, will spend such good times in this small farm. I’ll remember of you for the rest of my life. I hope that you’ll stay the same people. Thank you again.
I can’t wait to see you the next winter.

-Where to begin, when you have to describe such an amazing young woman?

Mai was our 6. workawayer and stayed here from mid September to mid October.

Mai is a straight A student ( workawyer) in every possible way.
She`s just a pure joy to be around, and most important, have around.

She fitted right into our kinda household. Always humming… read more and singing, no matter what we asked her to do. Never grumpy or saying no. Always had a good feedback, when we asked her anything. Have a great sence of humor and made us laugh a lot daily! She`s just such a super sweet and very brainy girl.

Mai was in charge of dinner and did a lot of indoor cleaning. Polishing all our windows, cleaning kitchen cabinets and book racks. Also did the dishes daily.
She`s really a very gifted chef. She changed almost all of our recipes into much better and yummi dishes... Just with a little pinch of this and that. This girl is a genius with vegetables! We had many talks about Mais future, and her becomming a chef is not a bad idea! ( That`s our dream for Mai. Then we`ll know where to go for a good meal!) We did a lot of things in the kitchen together. Mai is so much into cooking and baking. She really tried to get Nynne into the sourdough universe, and Nynne did all she could to teach Mai all her kitchen and garden tricks. They had a blast together w herbs, spices, bred, cakes, kefir and a lot of vegetables.
At sunny dayes, Mai was outside, helping out with our very large garden, removing the weeds and make sure every thing was just up to speed. Helped with planting and cutting down trees and collecting the wood and cleaning up afterwards. She did a a lot the heavy liftig, around getting our farm ready for the winter time.
She also did great things up at Sorens house. Cleaned it so weel, and made it ready for showtime.

One of Mai`s goals for comming to Denmark, was to polish of her Danish. She was very shy at first.. Byt it turned out that her danish speaking and writing, was almost perfeck. This girl speaks 5 (!!!) language at the age of 18!( German and English is perfect).... And not just a little hello and goodbye. NO! She`s almost fluently. So if Mai says she dont speak your launguage, she`s might just being her own humble self!
We enjoyed each others company watching movies or danish tv, for learning danish, in the evenings, with a cup of tea and some sweets. Always a nice way to end a day.

Mai, we misses you so much. You will always have second home at our house, here in Denmark. These few lines dosent cover what a wonderfull giggly, cool, brainy funny person you are. You are a peopleperson and so wonderfull to host. We can only say: please come back in springtime, so we can learn you how this all starts, it might come in handy later on ;-)
You also need to come back and learn how to make baskets w. Nynne and Mona!!!!

And BTW: you left behind somethings you need to come and pick up asap:
Kat, kurve, krukker, krydderurter, kefir and kogebøger! So get that driver licence and get up here, when your gap year is over. We cant wait to hear all about it!

We can only say: who ever gets Mai, is very lucky! She`s a hard working woman who likes to help out, always around to lend you a helping hand. We cant wait to meet w Mai again. Here or there. But we will meet again for sure!

I am sitting in front of this blank page for five minutes already, trying to figure out the best way in how to describe to others something that has definitely been one of the best months of my life so far!
If you are lucky, to have the opportunity and time to spend some time with Nynne and Søren in northern Denmark, there will seriously be… read more nothing to regret!

For those two people is it equally important that you have a good stay as it might be for you - and that is from the very first second. To arrange my workaway stay in september/ october Nynne and Søren asked for a FaceTime call, which is quite helpful, not just to get a better overview of the kind of work, but as well to really start to look forward to meet those open-minded, caring, funny and just fantastic people!!

It really is a talent to make strangers feel like they are at home and it is perfected by Nynne and Søren! This is meant in a personal, but as well in a practical sense, as the room you are staying in just as the rest of the house is very “hyggeligt” as we say in danish. As it might have been mentioned, your room is outside of the main building, but from own experience I can say that this is even with colder weather in autumn everything else but a problem, especially if you, or someone else ;), reminds you to turn on the radiator.

Even though good(!) music is well appreciated and in my opinion luckily played very often, I guess I cannot only write a hymn, praising the people you might be about to meet (that they would probably deserve it, is another question here).

I was told that at the end of September/ October there wouldn’t be a load of work left to be done in the garden. This is by the way a stunning place, especially if you’re a vegetable lover like me, but as the work throughout the year pays off around this time, there will be plenty of beautiful produce to eat. However, if one thing is sure, than that there will aleays something happen, or some things to be done!

On a farm like this it’s good to be flexible, because either depending on the season but as well on the weather, tasks can change daily. On nice days in autumn this might mean to do some weeding, removing the plants that don’t stay outside during winter, getting the summer furniture inside, planting garlic, sawing and storing wood that was collected from the forest ect. Whenever the weather was not so nice, I did some tasks inside, that were not so important to take care of during the summer months. Plus, if you really like it, you can as well do most of the cooking, which is pure enjoyment as people in this house are very glad for good food :)

Nynne and Søren, how true the sign in your kitchen “friends are the family we meet along the way” is!! Thank you for putting up with me and my danish and your help to improve it! I literally can’t wait to come back and am already looking forward to it!

-What a wonderfull outstanding young woman to host!

Louise was our 4. workawayer and stayed here at the end of August.

Louise took everything in and was so nice and relaxing to be around. Everything we asked her to do, was done beautifully and to perfection. A wonderfull personality! And very important in this household: The… read more greatest sense of humor!
We had some great weather at this time, so the things done around here was mainly outdoore.
Louise did paintjobs, gardenwork w. watering and remowing the weeds. She was a nurse /vet for one of our cats 24/7 and to top it all off, she did a great job as our private driver one saturday evening, when we had to go to a party. Ohh, and not to forget.... Her croque monsieur! The best we have ever had! Have been using THAT cheese ever since!

There were great conversations over dinner every evening. We learned a lot of things about France and the culture, that were new to us. Louise is super intelligent and speaks a very good english, so her take on things is a gift, when you like France as much as we do. Dont be afraid to ask her any qustions, she will give you a straight answer and explain her point of view. Really nice to be around someone who`s not afraid of speaking the truth.

On a day off we went on a basket making class, and as the perfectionist Louise is, she wanted to do a whole basket from start to finish. Do we need to mention that she off course succeded in this task as well?

Louise, we hope you swing your homemade basket around at the local boulangerie and contionues to spred you amazing good wibes in Paris. We are always here, when you need a timeout from you upcomming career as a killer laywer in France ( Or just wanna make some baskets w. Mona and Nynne!). We will stop by you some day, either on the way to, or on the way home from Sorens favorite place to go ( and maby... just maby... open a bottle or two;-)! And off course to salute you on your examens! Well done girl! We never doubted you would nail that final exam to perfection!
Best of luck in the future sweet Louise from Paris. We hope the flowerseeds you picked in our garden, will be a sweeet memorie of you time here, forever! ( If not, come and get new seeds, please!)

Let`s just get it out there from start. Camille is a sweetheart!

She was our mid-august workawayer.

We picked up a super happy girl, who had been in Sweden and in Copenhagen, before her final week at our place.
We very quickly found the same melody. Shared humor is very important in this house!
Camille speaks very good english so communication… read more is easy.
She`s very good at jumping in and help out with the little things. Doing the dishes, washing the car, paintjobs and a great help in the garden, and ALWAYS interested in the cooking. We tell you: This girl can work!

One of the very cool things, that we really enjoyed during Camilles stay here, is her magic work w. turning our vegetables in to very tasty meals! Nynne learned a lot of new tricks and new ways to use our homegrown products. Always very nice to get new inspiration, when it`s this tasty. Camille really wanna learn, and she has a big and very impressive knowledge about spices, herbs and vegetables. Our kinda girl!
-Let her into your kitchen, and watch the magic happens!
Our last meal together was on her, and we really wanted to learn how to cook Crepes. She did both salty and sweet. Yummi! Not sure we will get the same results..... But now we know how to do it the french way!

We had a bit of a hectic week. Our one cat had been bitten by a snake. Camille is ( thank god!) a real catperson! So she was very good w the Jazzcat and sat with him when he was in pain and stressed. It felt so good to see them bonding. She was also very good w our new kitten Elvis. SO if you need a person who has a good touch w animals, you can`t find a better person. Luckely Camille is planing on studing medicin, We are sure she will have great succes in this!
On the last morning, Camille had to leave very early and sadly we had som cartrouble! We were both very upset and stressed about her missing her train out of Aalborg, But Camille was super calm about the whole situation! THAT shows a good personality! ( And yes, she did get to Copenhagen in time for her flight!- as the smart girl she is, she had planed 3,5 hours wait in the airport- GOOD JOB GIRL!)
It also started rain a lot this week (After 2 months of complete drought!), so the plans we had made before her arrival, had to be changed, need we say that Camille was absolutly flexible all along?

Camille as a person is warmhearted, gentel, fun and very polite but with that super cool twist of laughter and humor. Very easily blended into our household.

We wish you all the best Camille! Some day you will return and see how big Elvis has grown. Him and Jazz miss you ( MABY) more that we do! And we will be cooking much more and do baskets w Mona again! Please come and see us! The door will remain open for you!

Welcome in paradise in this beautiful place !

Let me describe you the house : when you'll arrive, first you will be surronded by chickens chilling in the front of the place ; then you'll see your little house, cosy, bright, with an amazing bed and some chocolates as a welcoming gift ! Just next to you, there is the big shield for the two horses… read more who live there (and, oh ! chickens again). At the opposite side of the house, a huge garden full of yummy vegetables in perfect lines, and an area for fruit trees.
Come inside the house, and you will meet the "little man" named Elvis, a lovely kitten (ok maibe an adult when you'll come), a professional with flys catching and bottle cap football. The second cat, Jazz, is the most courageous cat I've ever seen. He had been bitten by a snake a few weeks ago, and even if he was so much in pain, he was still super friendly and cuddling.

Now it's might be time to talk about the two crazy person who will share your days here. Let's be simple : Nynne and Soren are the type of people you will never forget. They are just the personification of kindness and friendliness, always there to help you and make sure everything is good for you. If there are a few changements in the schedule, they will find the solution that make you as confortable as possible. I hope you like music, because there are crazy about it : regardless of the time, the weather, the mood, the activity, there is always music everywhere, either with stream music or with the enchanting voice of Soren ;)
They are welcoming, cudling, and so funny : I promise you will have a lot of fun. The atmosphere there is just so warm that I was just feeling as a family member, even for a stay of a (too little) week. The day of my departure, we had some troubles with the car and I missed my train, but they was present to help me with all the connexions to the airport and asking me for news. And that's just an example of their help.

About the work, there is nothing definitive ! All depend of the things to do, the weather, and your qualifications obviously. Personnally, I had to mow the lawn, to paint, to clean the house and the car, to cook... Nothing impossible !
During one of my day off, I went with Nynne at her basket making class, and oh my god that was so cool ! If you are creative and handy, that's the place to be haha ; Mona, the teacher, is really nice, and you can learn how to handle willow tree. I've made a kind of breadbasket and a bird feeder.

I don't know what can I write more, except that I miss them already. Wish them all the best. To sum up : don't go there, so I can come back next year haha ;)
