A countryside scene with a white house and red shed, surrounded by trees and greenery. The sky is cloudy with a hint of orange sunset on the horizon.
A small bedroom with two single beds covered in blue blankets, a window with dark curtains, two wall pictures, and minimal, simple furnishings. Cozy atmosphere.
Three people with long curly hair are smiling joyfully indoors. One holds a small Norwegian flag. They wear formal and floral attire beside a vase of flowers.
A beautiful, scenic landscape features a grassy field with young pine trees, dense forest in the distance, rolling hills, and a bright sky with puffy clouds.
Two hands are holding a freshly picked mushroom with a thick stem and brown cap, standing in a vibrant green forest with moss and grass.

    Description

Join us creating a nature-based space in Norway (sauna, fire, shared living – 2h from Oslo)

We are a small family developing a 1-acre space in Sørskogbygda (Elverum), about 2 hours from Oslo.

It’s a hands-on project where daily life combines practical work with a calm, nature-based rhythm.

What we value most about this place is that it’s quiet, close to nature, and at the same time, it’s still accessible from Oslo, which creates a good balance between retreat and connection to everyday life.

We are a small family living here, and this project grows out of our own way of wanting to live more grounded, more present, and more intentional in how we use our time and energy.

Our inspiration comes from time spent abroad in communities. We are now bringing elements of those experiences back, but adapting it to a Norwegian climate.

This is about creating and building a home and a place others can step into and feel more human
We are a private household and this retreat space and sauna is for our personal use only. As a live in volunteer you are welcome to use our home as it is yours.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Socially, the rhythm is simple and natural. We spend time together through shared meals, working on the land, and evenings around the fire. There may be music, conversation, or quiet time, depending on the day. The focus is on real connection rather than organized activities.

What we can share is mainly practical and lived. This includes building and shaping a space from the ground up, working with land and simple structures, and creating a way of living where responsibility, cooperation, and daily rhythm actually function. There is also an underlying interest in emotional awareness and how people relate to themselves and others — but expressed through everyday life rather than formal teaching.

Hosting people from different cultures is part of what makes a place like this come alive. We’re interested in meeting people who bring their own perspective, skills, and ways of thinking — and seeing what holds up when different backgrounds meet in a shared, practical environment.

The aim is not just exchange of work, but exchange of ways of living.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    Accommodation is simple but comfortable.

Depending on availability, you will either stay in a small bedroom inside the house, or in a separate lodge just behind the house. The lodge has a fireplace and a quiet, private atmosphere, but no kitchen or bathroom — these are accessed in the main house.

Food is shared and provided. We cook and eat together, and everyone takes part in preparing meals and keeping the space clean.

    Can host digital nomads

Digital nomads can be a good fit if they are able to fully participate in the daily work and shared rhythm. The day includes a few hours of practical contribution, with the rest more flexible. There is space to work online, but this is not a co-working environment, and the place works best for people who stay engaged with what’s happening on the land. Internet is generally stable for basic work, but may vary.

    Space for parking camper vans

We have space on the land for campers or motorhomes in a quiet, natural setting. Facilities are simple. Access to bathroom, kitchen, and water is available in the main house, but there are no dedicated hookups or full camping infrastructure at this stage. This suits people who are comfortable with a more minimal setup and enjoy being close to nature.

  • Can possibly accept pets

    Can possibly accept pets

Pets can be considered on a case-by-case basis. They need to be calm, well-behaved, and fully managed by their owner in a shared living environment. The space is quiet and nature-based, so this suits animals that are used to that kind of setting. Please include details about your pet when applying so we can see if it’s a good fit.
