    Description

Hello there travellers, pirates, gypsies, nomads, tribes and people of the earth. Good day to you all!!!
My name is Panama and I share a piece of land in Central Portugal with my partner Gary and mother Erica. My mother and I moved here almost 3 years ago from the UK. Gary lived previously in the Canary islands. Although we share land we have our own homes and sections. We came here to live a quiet offgrid sustainable life but each have our own take on it.

The land is situated near the Serra de Estrella mountains, which are extremely beautiful with many stunning Portuguese villages and river beaches to visit nearby. There is easy coach transport from Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra.
We are looking for people to help us develop our land and make it sustainable and easier to manage. Sadly our land was hit by the 2017 forest fires so it has been back to square one since then, with little money and resources. We are in the process of building up the land again. Amazingly the land has recovered very well but there are still lots of trees to be processed, but also new exciting projects to help us out with. You would primarily be helping myself and Gary out on our section of land to help us with various tasks to benefit the land the lifestyle we wish to live, In a community type style with daily jobs and also a combination of land clearing and creative aspects also. We would help my mum out on her land once or twice a week and have possible day trips out to exchange help with local friends of ours and to have a change of scenery. Looking for like minded people who share a passion for this lifestyle and are eager to learn, share and make new lasting friendships.
In the summer months there are plenty of markets, parties and events going to allow us to socialise with others and enjoy our free time. Send me a message if you have any questions or would like to come and help :). Love Life sun p.s We have two lovely dogs and 3cats and two kittens. The dogs and cats are very friendly.
We try to go to different markets each week to sell food we make, clothes and handcrafted items, we make need help with some food prep and with the stall. If there is room in the car with us we can take you to experience the day.

Travellers would learn about offgrid sustainability and how we manage it.
    Gardening
A small amount of Portuguese, I'm still learning but happy to practice basics and my mum would be happy to help.
Various building skills, ive learnt a lot myself recently and will share my skills on that, Gary has many skills in this area. Community life, new for us also but we open to all suggestions and changes to allow everyone to be happy.
You will meet new people and experience the life here with the locals and the foreigners who have come here.
We practice yoga but are still a beginners but happy to share what we've learnt and practice together.
    Cooking skills
    land maintenance
The area is stunning and offers many beautiful places to visit. There is lots of land for sale if relocating is something that interests you. The Portuguese are lovely compassionate people. Nearby we have an indian, Italian restaurant, a English pub and a couple of vegetarian cafes. Not to mention lots of cafes selling yummy Portuguese cakes and treats. We live close to local shops and super markets.
Having a driving licence would be a plus as we have a car that can be driven by anyone with a licence, so there would be potential to borrow the car on days off, if your over 25.

    Help

The help we require on the land.
Clearing trees and chopping fire wood
Strimming and general tidy of the land
Help with the garden, planting, watering, mulching, creating new methods for permaculture, ease and better irrigation.
Communal area: Finishing off the communal outdoor kitchen living room, putting floor in and making comfortable for everyone.
To build an awning for the volunteer caravan.
General help with the run of things, ie, cooking, cleaning, watering, garden maintenance.
Décor, making the land a beautiful place to hang out by making some lovely décor and shady places with a small festival feel to it.
Occasional exchange days with my mum helping with whatever jobs she needs and also help on a friends land on other projects.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a cozy caravan that will fit two people, either a couple or friends if your happy sharing. We have plenty of space for tents if you wish to bring your own or we can supply one. Also a hammock.
There is a communal outdoor kitchen living room, for socialising and preparing meals.
We would like our volunteers to help us out for 5 hrs a day, 5 days a week in exchange for food and accommodation.
You will be fed on your working days and will have access to the kitchen when you are not.
Food will be vegetarian/vegan food. Self service breakfast and lunch(we don't all want the same and don't all want to eat at the same times) with a evening meal either prepared all together or we will take turns. Preparation of meals and clearing up is not include in your 5hours work time.
You will need to provide your own snacks if you want snacks. I do not have a fridge so bear that in mind if you want to buy your own dairy products, but please do not bring or cook meat on the land, no judgement if you do eat meat just not here.
We can plan the hours once you arrive, the weather can be very hot so we will have to work around that. work will mainly need to be done early morning or the evenings, depending on the time of year.
On the land there is a compost vermy toilet with a view. Soon to be a solar outdoor shower.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We do have wifi, but I personally I do not like it on all the time, we can plan wifi times so that our phones only come out when we are not socialising /working.
There is transport to Coimbra, porto and Lisbon close by and cheap.
We like to socialise fairly often and are ready to have people here with us on the land. We do however need a certain amount of time to ourselves and ask that you respect that and understand that at times you may be on your own. We have had volunteers in the past and have really enjoyed our experiences together. We like to combine land maintenance with a certain amount of creativeness and like to keep the jobs varied. In the past we have felt a need to work along side volunteers, to offer support, but living this life constantly means it can be hard for us to keep up when we also have others things to do that volunteers cant help with. We would like to have at least two volunteers at a time so we can give you jobs together. On bigger jobs and when we have time we will of course join in with you. I have recently started a clothes shop so need to fit in my work as well as work on the land and Gary occasionally works offsite and also has his own woodworking projects. We are very open honest, approachable people. Everything is subject to change and we want everyone to feel they can talk to us if there is anything they are not happy with or feel could be done differently.

Lets have a great experience together and get back to mother earth.
