    Description

    Hello workawayers!

We are Melina and Jörg living in northern Germany (Eastern Friesland) around 15 km from the North Sea. Since a few years we rent a country side located house with garden from our good friends and neighbours. Moreover, Jörg's teenage daughter visits us regularly.

We have Indian runner ducks as well as budgerigars. Quails and zebra finches will follow soon, and chickens later on. (as in our previous home)
Our house is right next to the horse stable and the pastures of our neighbours. We are often involved in the care of the horses.

The nearest two small towns, Wittmund and Jever, are each around 8 km away. Both towns have a train station and shopping facilities.

We both have office jobs. Most days, at least one of us works from home.
In our spare time, we enjoy working in the garden and on the house. We grow vegetables, herbs and fruits and try to create a cosy home for us and our (soon-to-be) animals. Upcycling is a big talking point here! We do not like standard renovating and this undisputed leads to longer working periods. But ... good things come to those who wait! ;)
Even though we rent here, we do the building and renovation work ourselves - and there is a lot to do. That is why it can be a bit chaotic at times. We have a lot of plans, but we often lack time and helping hands.

Apart from our normal jobs we (currently especially Jörg) work or volunteer on different music festivals a few times a year. So we absolutely love music!

Both of us speak German as our mother tongue as well as proper English. Melina has basic knowledge in French (from past school days) and Swedish (currently learning via a language app).

We already had a few workawayers in our old home and had a good time together. After the early years in our current home, we would like to open our door to guests again.

We are looking for people who are not afraid to share the rooms and especially the daily life (very important!!!) with us.
We do not like to take in people who only want to spend their time alone.

If you like to cook or bake, we would love to have a taste of your traditional dishes.

We are also very interested in learning more about your culture and your previous adventures.

Furthermore, we welcome help with various projects (quail and zebra finch home, greenhouse, expand fence, raised beds, building or refurbishing furniture, painting, etc.) and repairs inside and outside.

We welcome people who like to be in a team but are also willing to manage tasks on their own and can take care of the animals, garden and house when we are working on a festival for a few days or on any other trip.

    Accommodation

We offer our guest room with a double bed. (View directly to the horse stable :))

Bath room, guest toilet, kitchen and living room will be shared - also of course our patio and garden.

As we are still in the process of gradually renovating the rooms (and almost only in winter when there is less to do outside), not everything is perfect and modern.

We usually cook our meals fresh, free of industrial sugar, gluten-free and often vegetarian. But you will also find fish and meat on our menu.
We often cook outside on our old kitchen wood stove.

You are welcome to explore the surrounding area on one of our bikes.

We will also be happy to show you a few places nearby or help you if you would like to go on a day trip, for example.

In principle, you can bring your pet with you by arrangement. Dogs must be compatible with other dogs (our neighbors have a dog) and horses. They should also not hunt, as our runner ducks live freely in the garden.
