    Description

Hello, we are a married couple with a 2 year old girl and 4 month old boy. We are looking for someone to help care for our 2 children and assist with some housework. Our cultural background is Sri-Lankan, and although we speak mainly English at home, we are trying to introduce more Tamil at home for children’s benefit.

Our daughter is a typical two year old who likes to play and enjoys reading, playgroup and time outdoors. She does have a few food allergies including nuts, dairy, and fish. Therefore, we have to take precautions with her food. She is otherwise quite healthy. Our son is a healthy baby who likes milk, hugs, and naps! The host parents are busy with their work schedules but we do like to make time for family and hobbies as well. We love cooking and exploring different cuisines; we are not vegetarian but love vegetarian food and ayurvedic cuisine. WE have and interest in gardening, nature, environmental issues and community health issues.

We live in the regional town of Lithgow, 2.5 hours by train to the centre of Sydney and only 45 mins from the famous and picturesque Blue Mountains region. We are 1.5 hours from Penrith by car. We have excellent public transport to Sydney. We are also close to the larger regional cities of Bathurst (45 minutes’ drive) and Orange (90 minutes’ drive). Our main local industries are farming and mining, and we have access to world class tertiary education institutions. Our locality is renowned for its wonderful natural attractions such as mountains, bushland, native fauna, rivers and waterfall as well as health retreats, beauty spas, fresh local produce and wineries.

We live on a 35-acre property, with native bushland and wildlife. We have kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras and cockatoos visiting our front and back yards daily. The family home comprises of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, indoor heated pool, and a tennis court. We enjoy spending time with our extended family and hosting family get-togethers on holidays and weekends. We like travelling to nearby towns and cities to meet family and friends. We also like to take the opportunity to spend time outdoors with some bushwalking. We currently have no pets but we do have a few chickens which produce lovely fresh eggs.

We would like to host one or two Workawayers who are able to help with the children's routines and housework. Hours and schedules are negotiable and we are flexible for some hours to be swapped for weekends or evenings if this is mutually beneficial. It would be helpful if the Workawayer is able to travel with our family when we are working in other towns. This does not occur frequently, but we do travel away for a few days every 6 to 8 weeks for work purposes. The Workawayer will have their own room with bed and table which can be set up as required. We have great internet NBN access. We will be happy to negotiate any extra things like the use of a car or travel card depending on availability and the needs of the Workawayer. We would love to support our Workawayer in their cultural experience and if required, we would be more than happy to help them improve their proficiency in English.

Come and join us to experience life in a regional Australian town! It is one of the few places in Australia with snowfall in Winter, so you can experience cozy fires and even a bonfire party from time to time. We have a large rural property, with much wildlife that visits even our front and back yards and there are interesting bushwalks and lookout points nearby. The beautiful land formations are part of the world famous scenic Blue Mountains region. We are very much family orientated, so you will be most welcome to join our family gatherings and celebrations which is a combination of Australian and Sri-Lankan culture, so you might get to experience at beach picnic at Christmas with crab curry! We love to cook and share our food as well as learn other cuisines from our Workawayers. If you like sport, we have several local friendly sporting clubs and your host is a lover of the typical Aussie sports of AFL and rugby league - you can join us at a live game every now and then. We are also very much part of the local community and enjoy visiting the local farmer's markets, community events and cultural events. We do travel quite often for work and to visit family to Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong as well as the NSW coastal towns for holidays, and we would love for you to join us and explore these parts of Australia!

    Help

We would love to host someone who has experience looking after children. If you can help with some housework and gardening, that would be great too but not always a necessity. The main things are getting the kids ready for the day, tidying their rooms and play areas, helping to prepare and give meals to the children, bathing and playing with them. Additional duties are taking the children to playgroups or childcare, laundry, cleaning kitchen and floors, grocery shopping and running errands.
